Kris Allen “No Boundaries” Removed from Tour Set!
2nd Update: Rumor is, Kris’s new song tonight is by The Killers… Hope it’s true!
UPDATE: Kris has a new song ready for tonight! Anoop tweets: “I’m sure y’all have heard that kris has a new song in his set. just heard him sound check it, and it’s amazing! sacramento is in for a treat”
Can I hear a hallelujah?
Richard Rushfield of the LA Times breaks the happy, happy news! Kris Allen will not have to spend the rest of the American Idols Live! tour slogging through that trainwreck of a song, “No Boundaries”
The tour’s producers have been listening to the sound of few hands clapping. Starting tonight in Sacramento, “No Boundaries” will be disappear from Allen’s set, according to sources with the production.
A new song will take its place in Allen’s set down the road later this week.
Anyone care to do the happy dance with me?
I don’t even care which song takes its place. Anything has to be better than “No Melody”. Good Riddance!
ETA: It’s true, fans are going to get less Kris for the next couple of days… They should let him work up an extra acoustic number in the meantime, maybe.

Adam’s version of No Boundaries greeted me on my Amazon.com homepage, everytime I went to the site for over a month. Kris’ never did.
Adam’s version of No Boundaries was on my iTunes homepage, in the ‘what we’re listening to block, for over a month.
So, yes indeed, Adam’s version of No Boundaries was promoted.
The first time that the idol judges trashed No Boundaries, was before Kris even got to sing it for the first time.
Personally, I don’t look to wikipedia when i need to do research, but selling 270,000 copies of a single probably shouldn’t be considered as bombing. The song sucked, but the fact that it did as well as it did is a testament to people liking Kris.
Vada, when did Adam promote it on t.v. shows?
I don’t go to Amazon except during the holidays, so I didn’t see it. I also don’t always look at the “What We’re Listening to” block on Itunes.
I don’t think anyone is blaming Kris for the failure of NoBo at all. I don’t even think David Cook could have sold this one. It was just a bad song.
I need to go back through the thread as I think I am missing something. I don’t even count No Bo as a Kris song because it is not something he chose for himself. Not sure why this is such a big deal. But I don’t think you can say Adam and Kris’s versions had the some promotion. That just isn’t true.
Disagree – Adam promoted Mad World, not NB. If it was his single he would have been singing it on the talk show circuit.
ETA: And I agree Kris selling 270,000 is impressive being that so many people disliked it.
undercooked, I never said anything about TV. I never said both versions had the same promotion. Adam’s version didn’t get a full promotion push, but it did get some promo, as in the placements on itunes and amazon.com. Those are not free placements.
Technically, NoBo is not a failure. Making the top 20 on AC, and the number of downloads sold, qualifies it as a hit. It isn’t a smash, but it is not a failure, either.
You are correct, it isn’t a failure, it’s just not TOML. I probably shouldn’t have used the word “failure.” I was responding to CindyM who said Adam shared in the “failure” of NB.
Here is a fact both Kris’s Heartless and Adam’s Mad World had outsold either of the version of No Boundaries. My feeling the failure lies in the writing of the song which neither Adam nor Kris was part of and both did what they could with it. Kris’s version got a lot more promotion. True, I personally like Adam’s version better as it had more of a melody. Which is not saying much. Just my preference.
The important thing right now is neither of them have to sing it anymore for the rest of the tour. Hey We all Win. :drunk_tb:
Oh and finally I am reserving myself now to not compare sales of Adam’s or Kris’s sales to past Idols or past Artist(2 or more years ago) as the market and configuration of the whole industry is so different now. Anyone who can sell 500,000 copies or more is a huge success as far as today’s standards go.
I agree, I was responding to another post. I don’t think the song is a failure for either of them, it’s just not a great song. I don’t think it’s the most horrible song in the world, I kinda had a sentimental liking of it.
I kind of wish Adam would replace one of his songs, too. I’m not crazy about Starlight & would prefer he sing something he sang on the show. I can’t think of the title right now, but I think it would do much better. Starlight kind of leaves me flat & I am an avid Adam fan!
The song I’m thinking about was picked for Adam by Simon towards the end of the show.
That would be “One” by U2.

(Are you really 99 years old, mysuse? That’s what your MySpace link says!)
Was it “A Change Is Gonna Come” (Sam Cooke)?
Now there you go! I am happy Kris doesn’t have to sing that drivel any more!
Grammie Kari – “A Change is Gonna Come” was picked by Simon Fuller. I guess it depends on which Simon mysuse is thinking of!
You lnow what is really disheartening to this Kris Allen fan who did not have access to a computer for several days while on vacation in the northlands is that I finally get to open a page that says Kris Allen in the title and the first ten posts I read are about Adam Lambert. The honest to goodness truth in my estimation is that No Boundaries was a wreck of a song for both singers. Adam’s version was not one bit better than Kris’s and as a matter of fact I only listened to it once plus the time he caterwalled through it on the final performance night and decided it was absolutely not in his wheelhouse. It was not an Adam song. I bought Kris’s version, more because I am a Kris fan than because the song was good. But it is a horrible song to sing live for either of them and only Kris was stuck with that job. Do I prefer Kris’s version? You bet. It isn’t a theatrical song or a rock anthem. It is a song from the heart and that is what Kris does better than anyone including Mr. Lambert. Sales have to do with loyalty to the singer as much as good music when it comes to the coronation song. Adam’s version should never have been released at all. He didn’t win, why did he release a coronation song? Lambert’s version certainly should not have appeared on the compilation CD from season 8. It was an insult to Kris and to his fans that they included it. I am sure it was to make a few more bucks in royalties for Kara, but it was not the right thing to do for the winner of the competition. I’m glad Kris will get to sing something else, not because he can’t do No Boundaries well, but because it isn’t a song that people have embraced like they did rainbows after season 7.
totally agreed sharig…and the excitement i had for kris doing a killers song totally spoiled by the whole fanwar going on in the other thread
that said, i’m soooo happy kris picked out a killer killers song and it only defines his album and music style even more..
cant wait for his first single :jittery_tb:
Oh dear God, no!
Starlight is fabulous!!!!!
Itunes and Amazon are User oriented. If you buy Adam songs the next time you open up it will highlight ALL of the available stuff from Adam, crap or otherwise. This isn’t national advertising, this is very user specific. So, really only those that buy Adam stuff and AI stuff would see the banners.
It’s just like Ads….mine are pretty much geared to everything Phoenix. Once your computer address is out there and you have indicated a home address on anything it recognizes you. Big Brother is watching all the time!
Is this the first time in AI history that a ‘winner’ doesn’t even have the vocal chops to sing his own coronation song?? Taylor Hicks is lookin pretty good now – at least he could sing the coronation song !! LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
Except I have no recollection of the coronation song that Mr. Hicks had to sing. No recollection whatsoever and I was rooting for Hicks once again because Simon was just being so nasty to him.
In other words, it seems most coronation songs fade into oblivion and are for the most part irrelevant. TOML stands out because I believe it was the most successful one and even then David Cook did not hide his disdain for the song.
I
Love Starlight. It was wonderful live last night. No replacements needed in my opinion.
