Kris Allen Recording In London, Working with Adele, Script Collaborators
Kris Allen headed to London on Sunday to record more tracks for his upcoming album, Due to hit stores on November 17.
Today Kris twittered hints about a mystery collaborator, and invited his fans to guess who it could be:
@KrisAllen4Real: riddle to see who im working with: breakfast food. thats all you get.
Ha ha. Turns out the mystery collaborator is Eg White (get it? hee), who has co-writes on albums by Adele and Duffy. His co-writes include the Grammy nominated hit single “Chasing Pavements” from Adele, plus, “Delayed Devotion” and “Hanging On Too Long” on Duffy’s debut Rockferry. White also wrote songs for Will Young (winner of Pop Idol) and Natalie Imbruglia.
Kris told MTV that he would be working with producers, Andrew Frampton and Steve Kipner while he was in London. Frampton and Kipner co-wrote Kris’s latest single, “Live Like We’re Dying” and “Written All Over Your Face” another song from the album.
Currently, “Live Like We’re Dying” is #34 on the iTunes overall songs chart, up from its mid-60s position over the weekend. The song’s Friday release was a little unusual, but today, iTunes has it listed in their “What’s Hot” section. The little bit of publicity is helping to drive the song up the charts.
I hope it does well. Cover, scmover, I think it’s a good song.

Allison tweeted this. I don’t know if anyone posted it?
Adam, Matt, Michael and other contestants are helping Kris. I love that they are doing this. That is really sweet of them.
They are a very cool group. They will root for each other for what they will put out in the music industry. Love this!!
And agree with you, Kris is a smart cookie!
nice of them to show support! has danny tweeted to show support for kris? i dont follow him so i dont know
question! do we have to wait till Nov 17th to listen to some of the songs on the album or will one or two be released (or leaked) before then?
i dont think i can wait a month and a half…and Nov 17th seems so far away!
Kris joined twitter late, but his tweets have been some of the most entertaining to read besides Alex Truggman’s.
Kris has a very fun snarky dry wit which I didn’t notice on the show, not until I started to read his tweets that I noticed he had such cool humor.
I loved the tweets between him and David Cook about the “ice shift” incident. That was such a crack up.
Kris sold 276,000 units of the single No Boundaries. We were never given the total units sold for the I-tune Pass. It appears that the sales for the single No Boundaries is no longer showing up on the I-tune popularity bars, meaning all singles were pulled from I-tune. It looks like all that remains are LLWD and the I-tune Pass w/No Boundaries.
If the “single” No Boundaries remained on I-tunes the popularity bars would be larger than LLWD. LLWD popularity bars have overtaken the I-tune pass w/NoBo. I’m not sure if that bodes well for the I-tune pass sales.
I do know Kris’s sales figures based on 3? days sales will not compare to DC’s 109k or DA’s 166k.
Music Sales Overall Ranking:
I-tune ranks #1 with 25% of music sales (digital only)
Walmart ranks #2 with 20% (predominantly CDs)
Best Buy #3 with 16%
Target 10%
Amazon 10%
FYE 3%
Borders 3%
Rhapsody 1%
12% other retailers
*Target, Amazon, FYE, Borders, Rhapsody — data from 2008
The top 3 data from 2009
In Digital sales alone:
I-tunes holds 69% of sales
Amazon just 8% of sales
23% other
Although DC’s pre-orders were strong on Amazon for a fairly long period a time. A guesstimate of his sales from Amazon would probably be in the family of $15,000 – 20,000 more or less based on his album sales of $283,000. I-tune and Amazon pre-order sales were definitely not the bulk of DC’ record sales.
Much of the CD sales will come from Big Box Stores such as Wal Mart and Target, especially on Black Friday and pre-holiday.
I am a little bit worried, but I hope the single will pick up steam once the radio stations starts playing the song regularly.
I wish Jive would put more effort in promotion (a big banner in iTunes would be nice, they had one for the iTunes pass before, I recall).
BTW, for those interested, here’s a good summary of how LLWD performed in radio airplay for the last five days (since its release): http://community.livejournal.com/kris_allen_ai8/237588.html
The itunes pass is advertised with the new single included, but LLWD isn’t shown on the itunes pass page.
Has anyone who has bought the itunes pass received it?
It has got the same promotion as Light On had last year
Woohoooo! Z100 played LLWD last night.
I didn’t follow the post-AI events much last year, but if this was really the case, then I worry for Kris.
I wonder if the single will perform better if more radio stations pick it up. I’m curious because I’ve read Jordin’s Tattoo had a slow but steady climb as well…what was the progression of Tattoo in terms of sales and airplay?
I worry all the more because Adam’s singles (the 2012 one and his first single off the album) will surely be released in the next couple of weeks, and I’m pretty sure those two songs will rocket to the top of the iTunes charts. I am already cringing at the comparisons that are sure to come.
Cook’s promotion was good, the problem was the single that was not well received initially. Cook had more momentum at release time because TOML did well and he has a bigger core fanbase, but LO suffered of not sounding current, whereas LLWD does.
In a long run, LO did well though, but to be honest I would have been so happy if Cook’s first single had been LLWD instead of LO.
Z100 played LWYD last night. So they may have added it to the playlist.
It’s too early to know how much they’ll play the song but they usually are good at Jive singles at the beginning. But they won’t play it alot if they don’t get a good response.
Yes – I was surprised to not see Kris mentioned in the new music Tuesday itunes emails – and it made me think that by releasing the single on friday (not the norm) he had missed out on this kind of extra PR.
Speaking of Eg White…he also produced some songs for James Morrison(The British singer, not the Doors lead singer) including Beautiful World. Kris has a very similar sound to Morrison and I hope this kind of stuff is what they’re working on, could be some great stuff.
Didn’t Cookie also release the video for LO pretty quickly after the single was released? Does anyone know if Kris plans on releasing a video for his single?
As far as I know there are no plans at the moment for a video. Haven’t heard him working on one either. But maybe when the album is done and his schedule is a little more free, he’ll start working on one.
His schedule should be free enough to make a video! I think it would help tremendously. The more mediums that people can be introduced to Kris and to his song…the better! He’s cute. Can’t hurt. His schedule will only get busier from here…right? Let’s hope so.
