Kristy Lee Cook - 15 Minutes of Shame - Unplugged - VIDEO

ETA: Kristy Lee just posted a podcast/interview with B93 on her My Space HERE.

Kristy Lee Cook performed her new single, “15 Minutes of Shame”, at a radio event in Oklahoma City this week. The Idols performed at the Ford Center last night. I’ve got the video posted right here, after the jump.

It’s nice to see Kristy Lee’s single get at least a little promotion. So far, it’s sold a measly 1,600 downloads–900 last week and 600 this week according to Idol Chatter. It’s no wonder the numbers are low, Arista dropped the single with very little fanfare. Folks barely know it’s out there. Arista’s promotion of their new country artist has been abysmal so far, if you ask me.

Want to help Kristy out? Or maybe you just like the single and would like it for your very own. In either case, click the links to download “15 Minutes of Shame” from iTunes… and from Amazon HERE.

Not in to country, but this version is better than the original… :clap_tb:

I like it acoustic better too. I’m happy that she’s getting some plugs in for it. It could use the help…It’s not been a huge seller.

This version does sound better than the recorded one. If I were a fan, I’d be pissed at how her label is doing no promo for her. She already has an uphill battle on her hands, it doesn’t help her chances any when her label isn’t behind her.

I think I may have 99 cents to spare, maybe I’ll head over to Amazon to help the girl out.

I just don’t understand why labels sign artists and then don’t promote them. Why sign them in the first place?

I think I may have 99 cents to spare, maybe I’ll head over to Amazon to help the girl out.

Good idea AInoob. I am a country music fan, so I can spare 99 cents to help her out.

I’m flabbergasted that her song hasn’t done much better it has. It’s catchy and should at least be a minor country hit. Realistically, apart from the cache attached to the singer’s name, what’s the difference between “Fifteen Minutes” and “Crush”. Archie is a better singer, but it’s not like Crush is a vehicle for his voice to blow the listener away. Maybe the song Crush itself is a bit better of a song than Fifteen Minutes, but in essence both are disposable pop tunes. Only Kristy’s is pop-country instead of pure pop.

Besides the lack of promotion, I think the problem is what I’ll call the “Nashville Star” syndrome. Country audiences are becoming every bit as demanding as rock audiences for “authenticity” in their artists. Country fans now, like rock fans have always been, are not going to embrace any old reality television singer just because they perform their preferred style of music (pop music fans, it sems, still welcome them with open arms, however). They have accepted Carrie, and they are luke-warm on Kellie (CMA not withstanding). But, apparently the country music world has concluded, at least so far, that Kristy Lee is not the real deal.

I thought that sounded pretty good. :)

My husband’s a pretty big country fan. He didn’t like the country/pop of “15 minutes of Shame” and thought the words were weak. Give her a better song and he’d see her as more of the ‘real deal’. It’s not her as much as the song.

I’m seriously considering downloading 15MOS for support of her. The acoustic/live version is definately better. I wish the actual single was acoustic. I want to hear others from her album. Did someone post in the headlines thread that there’s another one available for download? “Just Stand Up” or something like that?

I think her whole handling came a long as she is Idol’s “country music money cash in”.
And her remark about the 4 days recording haven’t make it better.

I am sorry for her so I bought her song and I hope they give her more promotion after the tour for her album.

  9. 9 AInoob Aug 29th, 2008 at 12:40 pm

cookcricket, “Just Stand Up” isn’t Kristy’s song. Its the song that multiple recording artists have gotten together on for the Stand Up to Cancer Benefit, with all proceeds going to the charity, I believe.

I like her voice but it´s really worries me that she only spent 4 days in making an album… normally and album takes a lot of time… we know that Idols albums are rushed, so they won´t lose to the next season contestants… but even Archie and Cook have made it clear that is a long process and they both wish have more time to work on it… I wish her luck certainly her voice is one of my favorite from this season…

Duh…Thanks AInoob! I certainly wasn’t thinking on that one.

I liked this version better. I didn’t get as much of a “Barbie doll” vibe from her as much in this video. I think if she would go more organic and less sparkly, she would do herself some favors.

  13. 13 GEEK4VOCAB Aug 29th, 2008 at 2:55 pm

4 days? To make the whole album???

    Uh… okay. No thanks.

  14. 14 bluejeans Aug 29th, 2008 at 3:20 pm

I definitely would purchase this acoustic version. TONS better than her actual single with the over processing. This is actually pretty good, bad lyrics aside.

  15. 15 Bobbi Aug 29th, 2008 at 4:06 pm

This is just a weak song, imo, and I like country music. Somebody also needs to tell her about nude colored bras, particularly if she’s being filmed.

  16. 16 idolbeat Aug 29th, 2008 at 4:50 pm

I bought it before the 1600 - so at least it is 1601 :)

I like the unplugged version too. I requested at my local country station - they hadn’t heard about it yet but said they would order it.

I bet she knows. She wasn’t sparkly or low-cut so she had to draw attention somehow. (And before any of you boo, you know that many folks have commented on how KLC uses her assets!)

LOL. Radio interview with Kristy Lee Cook is a good interview…

    Interview

    3.Her negagement
    4.Michael Phelps diet

You’re probably right, pts. How pathetic! She really doesn’t need to do that.

  20. 20 ktkidwatcher Aug 30th, 2008 at 12:03 am

I feel sorry for KLC. She has a pretty good voice and she is very pretty, overall a very marketable artist, but her personality just wasn’t totally there and she couldn’t build a large fan base so she didn’t go far and never will.
I was happy to hear she got a recording contract but her label has done absolutely NOTHING to promote her new song. Its not even on the top 100 country songs on iTunes. And some of those songs on that list have been there for like a year.
And she shouldn’t have said that it took her four days to record her album. It shows that her label had some extra material lying around the office and saw this okay country singer and signed her to sing this second rate generic country crap. I am a fan of country music but this song is so boring and generic. There is nothing special about it. I really believe that they had about 10 songs lying around and they decided to have her sing them and just test to see if she would do okay or not. It’s like an experiment. All of the songs on her album will have no feeling and no background because she obviously didn’t write any of them or have ANY input in this album if it was done in less than a week. The Davids and the former idols spend at least 2 months on their albums and they have a pretty big say in what songs go into it. Kristy probably just read the song over twice and then sang it.
This acoustic version is much better than the over processed version on iTunes. Her voice is better when its stripped down and there aren’t too many instruments.
If Kristy had been in season 6, she would’ve at least made the top 3. She looks great on paper- good looks, good voice, but for some reason, she just can’t seem to build up a fan base.
She will probably drift away into the many failed, unaccepted country artists and get dropped from her label a few months after the release of her album (which will sell around 130,000). Whoever said it before was right, country fans are very selective and there are just too many pretty blond country singers right now. Carrie and Kellie have made it but Kristy is late in the game. Carrie has the great voice and great songs. Kellie has the great personality. Kristy has the good looks. But all country singers have the good looks so it’s like she has nothing working for her. I hope she can at least get a good job working in Nashville.
Hey, at least she got a recording contract. Jason and Brooke and Carly (who I was sure was going to get a contract before Kristy) are still without.

  21. 21 cruzceleste Aug 30th, 2008 at 12:20 am

I really believe that they had about 10 songs lying around and they decided to have her sing them and just test to see if she would do okay or not.

It always surpriseme that KLC was signed… I meanI like her voice (at least more than Syesha´s and Ramiele´s), but she didn´t had a big fanbase and she was one of the most criticize idols this season I mean… Archie got a lot too but they always were consitent and that he has a good voice and he had a great fanbase… but KLC in every review I read during AI she only was a favorite during auditions ( EW reviews) after the top 24 most of the articles turned agains her… (EW, VULTURE, MTV´s Jim Cantiello…) and she was Vote for The Worst pick durin at least four weeks after Amanda got voted off, so it was a shock when they announced that she had a record contract…

If I were a big conspiracy fan I will said that she already have a contract and they were only gonna used AI as a way to promove her… but the Davids, Carly, Brooke and Castro got in the way…

well this is just my crazy imagination flying since I got nothing better to do…

  22. 22 LK08 Aug 30th, 2008 at 12:36 am

I bought her single yesterday, even though I am not into country music. I hope it helps a little.

  23. 23 AInoob Aug 30th, 2008 at 12:57 am

She’s got a few samples of other singles from Why Wait on her myspace page. I don’t think those are much better.

  24. 24 cruzceleste Aug 30th, 2008 at 1:18 am

I don’t think those are much better.

    Poor Kristy…

“…get dropped from her label a few months after the release of her album (which will sell around 130,000). ”

The only part of the post I don’t agree with. She won’t come near that number unless she gets major promotion.

  26. 26 Lu Aug 31st, 2008 at 9:45 am

Is Kristy’s single charting at all? I haven’t been following things very well lately!

  27. 27 jnd1221 Sep 1st, 2008 at 2:45 pm

She sounds pretty damn good! Good for her, she’s a sweetie. I was actually shocked to hear her song three different times on the radio this weekend on two different stations! Maybe they’re finally starting to promote it.

  28. 28 idolbeat Sep 1st, 2008 at 4:01 pm

Someone from idolforums posted she hit top 40 - I’ll have to find the post. In the mediabase post, it shows her at 41. I called my radio station to request 15MOS, they didn’t have it yet but said they would order it.
