I was really distracted last night after my database crashed. I never really got to do a proper re-cap. Here are a few thoughts on what went down. Illustrated with photos!
After the Jump…
I have to say that Kristy Lee Cook’s elimination last night was more of a shock to me than Michael Johns the week before. Kristy’s performance Tuesday night was a personal best of a string of performances that were steadily improving. She had her own voting bloc of country fans, and Dial Idol predicted that she was totally safe. In fact, this week was the first time this season that Dial Idol was dead wrong.

Since the semi’s, it irritated me that Kristy kept dodging the big bullet, despite sub par performances, but ultimately I came to respect her toughness and canny judgment. She worked hard to stay in the game, and no matter how many times she made the B3, she took it without turning into a blubbering mess like a couple of other contestants I could name. She shed a few tears when she was finally eliminated, but I think she earned them. I found her serenade to Simon during her sing out quite hilarious too. What’s Simon staring at? Heh.

With her pretty looks and decent voice, I expect Kristy will be scooped up by Lyric Street or one of the other Country Row labels once the tour is over.

I have this picture of Nigel, sitting at his desk the week before Top 7 rubbing his hands in glee as he plots out “The Groups” for that week. The pick-a-hapless-contestant-and-make-them-choose-sides deal has been a running staple of the show since George Huff was asked to do it Season 3. I think it’s time to stick a fork in this bit. Even shuffling up the groups so it was hard to tell the difference between B3 and T3 didn’t keep it from seeming stale. David Archuleta, the contestant stuck in the middle this year refused to pick, just like Melinda Doolittle refused last year. Even though the element of shock is gone, I’m thinking Nigel enjoys this sadistic bit of Reality TV Drama too much to ever give it up. Unless he can come up with something even crueler. Oh, yeah, it’s Nigel Lythgoe we’re talking about, I’m sure he will.

Kudos to TPTB for inviting Elliott Yamin to perform on the show. I think it probably helped him to perform and pay tribute to his recently deceased mom, Claudette in front of the audience who came to know her during Season 5. It was a really nice tribute to her. Elliott also had the chance to thank his fans for all their condolences and well wishes. He looked a bit ragged, but sounded as wonderful as ever. I don’t love all the songs on Elliott’s album, but I think “Free” is one of the better tracks. He seems to have a great relationship with 19, despite the fact that they didn’t sign him. That’s a good thing. The relationship appears to be mutually beneficial.

I thought Mimi was just a’ight last night. Is it my imagination, or did Mariah Carey used to be a better singer?

Ok, I totally laughed my head off when that caller during the ask-a-dumb-question segment asked Simon Cowell what the difference was between all the meaningless phrases he uses when he’s dissing a contestant–”Karaoke,” “Theme Park,” and “Piano Bar,” and “Cruise Ship” are just a few. He never did answer the question. And what the hell was that crazy flower thing Paula was wearing around her neck?
Question: Is David Cook single?

Why, yes he is!

Ha ha ha! That was just for you Cooktards out there!
Group Hug!!!!

Don’t worry. I’m not one of those numerous jerkfaces who loves to steal bandwidth. LOL.
I wouldn’t mind if Cookie was dating at all, actually, just providing that I liked the girl. I have my reasons for not liking Lacey, so that’s why all the rumors are getting to me.
LOL, pj. I like that about Jason, too. He’s really quirky but isn’t afraid to let it show — or rather, he probably just doesn’t notice. :P
Did y’all see the Idol Extra clip Rickey posted that had the contestants talk about their most embarrassing moments on the show? I ROTFL at the end.
I’d be surprised if Jason isn’t the VFTW pick. heh.
I just posted those clips. I’m working on Bo Bice! :)
I don’t think the fangirls will stop voting if the contestants have girlfriends. It causes a lot of handwringing and flipping out on the fansites, but people stick by their favs, I think.
Just keep the girlfriends off the internet and all will be well. Heh.

Thank you! I don’t mind sharing my stuff at all. I’m not one of those people who puts watermarks all over my stuff. But, OMG hotlinking drives me out of my mind. People, it costs me money, so please don’t do it! :).

David C. is my 2nd fave, and, what I love about him, is that he isn’t afraid to be human, or embrace the cheesiness of the show. Unlike, Daughtry, who seemed to be so angst over his rocker cred, David - just is. I hope he has a great career after Idol.
Jason, God love him, just doesn’t care what he says. Remember, he doesn’t do interviews well. So, yeah, his freak flag flies high and proud. LOL
MJ, I loved your recap/tribute :) to Kristy. I picked her as a favorite in the auditions, behind Alexandrea. When Alexandrea went home, it was my birthday (a monumental one) and I just cried. Sap. That. I. Am. I had resentment for Kady and Amanda for lasting over Alex. I got over it, like I always do when my favorite goes home and waited each week to see when they would leave. When Kristy sang Faithfully, I thought she did a good job. I thought You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away was decent. 8 DAW - ugh! I wanted her to go home then. God Bless the USA proved she earned her spot. Anyway is a beautiful song; I think she did it justice and moved Martina back up the charts. Forever, charted at #10 on the R&B chart today. I forgot how to check air play - I might need Kirsten’s help to tell me how to do again.
I cried last night, just like my son cried for Chikezie. I’m done crying for the season, although I might cry if Brooke loses it or when she goes home.
Kristy is a fighter! I love her for singing to Simon. I think she got her point across! She said today that she will put on a good show during tour - singing what she wants to sing.
Back to the guys! I hate to be a sore loser but if there was a triple girl’s elimination next week, I would not be sad. I think the rest of the girls are all sweet, are unique in their genre - folk, rock and R&B but I’m ready to fast forward to Jason, David and David. I actually wish instead of a 2 person finale it was three. How awesome would that be!
Sorry to be a post hog - I had a cappuchino late and am wound up on caffiene!
Rami & Jason? Interesting! Caffiend, what makes you think so?
Is Cooktardistan part of the EU? If so, I may be all set!
brb, researching immigration law…
Thank you, mj!
What’s hotlinking? I want to make sure I don’t do that.
Basically, don’t take the direct link of something and post it up somewhere else. If you want to avoid it, just save everything onto your own user and upload it yourself.
Don’t worry, sky. TPTB were seeing money signs by the time Cookie came out with “Hello”. He’ll be fine, no matter where he lands. :)
The worst thing is when people embed a link from my site into their own webpages, facebooks, Myspaces, messageboards. They use my picture–and I pay for the bandwidth. In most cases, there isn’t even a link back to my site. It’s considered bad netiquette to hotlink.
The best thing to do if you want to use one of my pictures is to right-click, download and upload it to flicker or photobucket and link to that. A link back to my site would be nice, but I won’t go out of my mind if you don’t. :).
Can you set it so someone hotlinking an image gets an alternate “Bandwidth Thief” image? And if so, can I nominate the Daughtry Pufferfish Face to be the replacement image?
So glad Cookie is single :)
LOL, schmanda!
Schmanda FTW!
I like that Cookie - and Jason and Michael too - actually appear to be having fun on the show too. They embrace the cheesiness of it all and just run with it. It’s endearing. :)
