Awww. What a sweetheart! I wish he had been in the final 24. I have no idea how far he would have gone, but I certainly would love to have seen how he would have fared while he was there.
Looks like a bright future looms for him, no matter what.
It’d be great if he would put out a Christmas album every year. I’d buy it! Simon was right this time. I hope he has a great life and never goes to live in Hollywood.
Kyle’s awesome in this video, and I’m not just talking about the singing. He needs to be in school, so I’m glad he wasn’t picked just to be let go before the Top 12.
Maybe they’ll let Kyle sing a verse of some song during the finale. Hey - they brought back “the littlest cowboy” and others who were stand-outs.
Sometimes Simon is right, but, I think he was right about Kyle. He wanted Kyle, and, not Colton Berry, and, thus, the reason he was so harsh with Colton on Thursday’s show. But, I do think that Kyle will make a great governor.
Kyle did great on Ellen. Seems like he’s a nice, smart kid with a good voice. Now he can use the full-ride scholarships he has for undergrad and grad school and can sing for fun. Although they were probably supportive, his parents probably gave collective sighs of relief when he did not make it into the Top 24.
The TV show “Extra” gave him the makeover and clothes for his Ellen appearance. They showed it on Friday’s show. They also gave Josiah his makeover and clothes for his Ellen appearance.
Very interesting that Michael Orland was playing piano. When he first started playing, I was thinking “Cute, a piano just like the finalists get for their press tour”. Then, I saw Michael Orland’s face popping above the piano and I couldn’t believe my eyes, but Ellen confirmed it.
Why is Michael Orland, AI’s piano maestro playing for one of the booted kids? At this point in the competition, shouldn’t he be helping the kids prepare for this weekend’s perforances? Isn’t it mad rehearsal time? He always helps the kids plan and rehearse with the vocal coaches. Maybe the contestants had a photo shoot for a few hours or something (Ellen is filmed local to AI).
Anyway, nice exposure for Kyle. He seems like a great kid and he seems set with his fellowship. He can wow them all at the Embessay karaoke night. When he runs for president, he can go on one of the late night shows and sing (musical ability has been helpful to presidential hopefuls in the past).
Kyle’s singing sounded really nice! I don’t think he would have won AI, but I don’t think he would have gotten the first boot. He may have even stood a chance for top 10. Nice vocals combined with sweet, articulate kid = good tee vee in my book.
What kind of scholarship did he get that pays for undergrad, grad, and secures him a 4-year position at the State Department? He’s gotta be crazy smart, cuz that’s impressive.
i loved his makeover. he looks geek-chic. i really liked his voice. i don’t think randy and paula vetoed simon. i think it was the producers that did it. i also think that simon has a weak spot for geeks.
and i agree he must be crazy smart for that type of fellowship!
Azidol and janerazor, i found this re: his scholarship at oklahoma state u. super smart, i’d say:
Kyle Ensley
2007 Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellow
The Pickering Fellowship is only granted to 20 students in the nation and will finance the remainder ot Ensley’s undergraduates studies and two years of graduate school plus a guaranteed four-year position as a foreign service officer with the State Department after he finished graduate school.
And after watching the video, definitely a mistake to leave him out of the top 24. but i’m sure he will be fine :)
Kyle looks a bit like Daniel Radcliffe with his hair that way. It sounds like he’s got a much better deal with his fellowship than he would have gotten from American Idol.
Hum, he definitely should have make the top 24. But maybe Paula and Randy were worried he wouldn’t have the drive to compete since singing is just something he does “for fun”. Who knows why he didn’t make it.
Ellen cracks me up. I wonder why Kyle chose to dress like Ellen though — he must be a really, really big fan.
Very cool that Michael Orland was playing piano.

He’s sweet, but he would have probably gotten the boot in week 1 as well - those last hired/first fired trends are hard to buck.
So sweet, and yeh he was very good. I remember him, a little geeky but could carry a tune.
He was cute! I hope he gets what ever he wants out of life!
He looks so different without his glasses — much cuter.

You know, Simon was probably right.
If nothing else, this guy is unique. And really not that interested in his hair.
Paula and Randy got that one wrong. He would’ve been fun to have in the top 24.
Hmm. I would have preferred Josiah over this guy. More passion for music and raw talent.
hee… ahh PJ… we definitely disagree on that but I love you anyway! :)

We don’t even know what he stands for politically. Great governor already? LOL.

DO NOT DESPAIR, KYLE CAN TRY AGAIN NEXT YEAR!!!!
Have they changed the rules?

Here is an article about his scholarship, pre-Idol:
