MORE PHOTOS: Check out photos from Orlando Attractions Magazine HERE.

5th Update:  From the looks of the second video, it was a quick hello from Lee at the AI experience, but no performance… There will be HQ vids coming your way later. eta: added an HQ vid of the Q&A and interview with Fox Orlando.

4th Update: Added the first videos–a clip of Lee’s post-parade Q&A, and another inside the experience, on stage with the contestants.

3rd Update: Lee is going to make an appearance at this morning’s first show at the American Idol Experience.  He may sing.  Twitter live blogging HERE and HERE.

2nd Update: PHOTOS: Lee on stage with Minnie and Mickey: Twitpic. Waving from the motorcade Twitpic.  From Fox Orlando HERE.

UPDATE: Found a live stream of the Q&A HERE. The parade and Q&A are already over! That was quick. It all took about 20 minutes!

Lee DeWyze is set to appear in a special Disney parade this morning beginning at 10 am at the Orlando Hollywood Studios.  Check out the deets HERE.

However, Lee is not the only Idol at Disney today.  Just Jared published photos of both Lee and Crystal Bowersox, with her son Tony in tow. arriving in Orlando yesterday.

  • Check out photos of Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox + son Tony arriving in Orlando on Sunday (May 30) HERE.

Aaron Kelly is there too, he tweeted on Saturday, “Good morning :) going to Disney for a few days :) I am so excited!!”.   Mike Lynche is there also. You can see him in the background of this photoCasey James, also reportedly there.

Only Lee is scheduled to appear at any events, from what I’m hearing. Also, unlike Kris Allen last year, Lee  is NOT scheduled to perform.

There WILL be video of the parade! So watch this space for updates…

I also saw Big Mike on those Jared pics! Maybe the whole Top 10 is there?

  • movin2thabeet

Well, that’s one way around that pesky problem of having an AI winner on your hands who can’t reliably sing on key – don’t have him sing. Either that, or use the live auto-tune or rely on that old standby of lip syncing. (Hey, they did it for group numbers. Who’s to say they won’t use it elsewhere?)

Yeah, I thought I saw big Mike in those pics too. Great to see him there too. I’m thinking with Lee being a less than exciting performer and likely winning by a fairly small margin at that, seems like they’d have a better job of selling this season if they focused on the group of top contestants rather than the actual winner. Maybe they can sell more tickets to the tour that way. But they’ll have to give at least the the other top 4 or so more songs to sing and publicize that if they’re really going in that direction.

  • koshka

movin2thabeet – you may have something here. Also, maybe the contestants might actually feel more competitive if they up the $$ for the idols that go on tour and only allow, say the top 8. to perform.

  • CB77

Casey is going also. Remember as of season 7, the top five get to go to disney to be part of the “idol experience” thing, they get some kind of disney bonus for making it to the top 5 too.

  • larc

    Casey is going also.

I wondered when I saw this pic if the tall guy at left we can see just a bit of might be Casey.

  • Kirsten

I wondered when I saw this pic if the tall guy at left we can see just a bit of might be Casey.

LOL. Now we are just matching body-parts.

If you look way in the back, there is a skeevy looking guy who could be Constantine! (remember when he used to attend every Idol show?)

  • Kirsten

The parade and Q&A are already over! That was quick.

What time did the park open? Was that just the crowds waiting at the barriers for the rope line to drop?

That dude with the huge black ears is such a stalker. Every year they go to DisneyWorld, he’s all over the Idols. How did he get in that car? Disney has to up their security detail.

  • FREIDAG

Also, unlike Kris Allen last year, Lee is NOT scheduled to perform.

    Heh. I wonder why?

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

The Top 5 record videos for the American Idol Experience. So, I wonder if they aren’t at the park today to record some stuff and get in a little R&R.

I don’t think the entire Top 10 is there. Siobhan tweeted that she was returning to Cape Cod for a day.

  • wjmtv

    Kirsten:

What time did the park open? Was that just the crowds waiting at the barriers for the rope line to drop?

    The park opened at 8am.

  • Kirsten

    The park opened at 8am.

Really? Their website for that park says 9 am (I was just checking while you posted).

ETA: But, they do have an extra magic hour starting at 8 for those staying at their resorts.

  • MaryS-NJ

That dude with the huge black ears is such a stalker. Every year they go to DisneyWorld, he’s all over the Idols. How did he get in that car? Disney has to up their security detail.

*Snerk* Yeah, and remember seeing him hanging around with a bunch little kids all over the place when were last at Disney… the creep! ;) Heh.

In addition to all the above fun, today’s Casey James’ 28th Birthday. Disney World is a great place to spend a Birthday.

  • larc

I’m thinking with Lee being a less than exciting performer and likely winning by a fairly small margin at that, seems like they’d have a better job of selling this season if they focused on the group of top contestants rather than the actual winner.

It will be interesting to see who emerges as the main draw if there is one in this summer’s Idol tour. Hard to imagine a lot of peeps will be going mainly to see Lee. Crystal, Casey and possibly even Tim may sell more tickets overall.

I hope half the audience doesn’t leave after Crystal’s set.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I’m reading on twitter that Lee will appear at this morning’s first show at the American Idol Experience.

  • googletot

I thought Casey was going home instead of going to Disney.

  • larc

Good thing Mickey rode in the car with Lee. That way everybody knew who at least one celebrity was. ;)

  • Kirsten

I’m reading on twitter that Lee will appear at this morning’s first show at the American Idol Experience.

Kris did something like that last year. He did a little interviewing and played the Ryan part a bit. Maybe they’ll have Lee sing at AIE this year. Maybe he’ll win the golden ticket!

*Snerk* Yeah, and remember seeing him hanging around with a bunch little kids all over the place when were last at Disney… the creep! ;) Heh.

He must be stopped! I even saw him inviting kids into his house…

  • CB77

I thought Casey was going home instead of going to Disney.

He said in some interview that he gets to go home for 12 hours and that he was going to “Disney” as well. I think it was the TVGuide interview with Justin and Brook.

  • babybelle32

What time did the park open? Was that just the crowds waiting at the barriers for the rope line to drop?

For the Christmas Parade, Disney actually hired people, and instructed them on what to do during the performances. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if they do the same thing for this parade.

For a lot of people, American Idol is a hobby, and as a part of that hobby they go to the AI concert every single year. I know a certain segment of fans tried to make the concert more than it was last year, but mainly, it’s something that appeals to the older demo and their kids, and they go because it is fun. They aren’t trying to make any statements.

  • flicker

Lee looks happy. Good for him, hope he’s having tons of fun.

Here’s Kris’s Disney thing from last year. He sang “Heartless”

Here’s Kris’s Disney thing from last year. He sang “Heartless”

    http://mjsbigblog.com/kris-allen-visits-the-american-idol-experience-at-walt-disney-world.htm

The cutest part about Kris’ appearance is when he spoke with the reporters after the press conference, and told them about how big Kelly Ripa’s biceps are.

Speaking of that, it’s surprising that this week isn’t just about the NY press tour for Lee, Crystal, and Casey.

  • sallysimmons

I hope half the audience doesn’t leave after Crystal’s set.

I don’t think you need to worry about that. Lee will be as popular on tour as he was during the season and people will adore him live as they did on the show.

  • http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=227878099299 ai_fan

I’m sure they’ll tape segments to replace Season 8 top 5 on the big screen out front. Makes me sad.

  • Trina

There is no way at all to tell whos selling the most tickets unless you poll the concertgoers as they go into the venues. Last year it was apparent Adam was the one who got the crowd nuts but this season in general I dont see much excitement. There were lots reports every week at the Idol tapings that Lee got all the screams and shouts of “I love you”, he may not be the most exciting performer but obviously a lot of people like him.

  • weese

By this time the winner’s voice is pretty well shot. I think whether they perform or not is decided on a day by day basis keeping in mind they have a several month tour coming up. I remember Kris’ NoBo getting rougher and rougher with each appearance and being concerned he was destroying his voice.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I just posed another twitvid from Disney. Lee spoke with the contestants on stage at the experience, and then left. I don’t think he’s going to sing.

  • Idol Freak

Didn’t realize the screams would be so loud in that second video onstage with the contestants. Had to turn down the volume a bit on the speakers..lol

  • wjmtv

    larc:

I hope half the audience doesn’t leave after Crystal’s set.

If they do, they’ll miss a helluva show.

Do we know when they’re due in New York? I WANT MY IDOLATRY!

Back on topic…I do think that’s Casey’s body part in that picture. Pretty sure I’ve seen that lumberjack check before. :p

You peeps are too funny if you dont think Lee has tons of fans everywhere. Here’s a longer version of the q @ a: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/7353363

edit: We aren’t going there this morning.

  • SybilTrelawney

Why no live performance by Lee?

As someone who is not a big fan of Lee, I agree that it would be very rude for people to leave after Crystal’s set. I don’t think that it’s fair to ascribe that intention to all of Crystal’s fans, however.

(For myself, I’m not going to the tour at all.)

  • Trina

Those are some loud screams for someone so unpopular LOL

  • girlygirl

I thought the very small percentage of people who deliberately walked out during the AI tour after Adam’s set as some sort of protest against Kris winning were incredibly rude, so hopefully that won’t happen with Lee this year.

Personally, I am simply not going to the AI tour this year. Not interested.

I’m a little surprised Lee didn’t perform today. But doesn’t he have Letterman or something tonight? Maybe he just wanted to rest his voice.

Are they going to do Lee & Crystal NY press things together at all? Or are they going to do everything separately? Are they going to sing on the morning talk shows, like Kris, Adam and Danny all did last year?

  • Liva

As bummed as I am not hearing him sing, I think it’s so smart that he’s resting the ole voice box before his TV appearances. Also, I like him saying he’s got a responsibility, now that he’s an AI winner, to create a great album for the fans. To me, this guy just *gets it*. And on a weird day too when Mickey and Minnie meet Marilyn Manson through Lee Dewyze. Strange day.

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

I’m sure if Lee isn’t singing this year, it probably has more to do with what Disney wants to pay this year then anything to do with Lee. I would say Lee has just as big of a fanbase if not bigger than Kris’s and Kris sang last year. Plus, I think Lee will be a lot less nervous and probably perform well. I wouldn’t read too much into Lee not singing as having anything to do with his abilities.

I will be curious to see how the AI tour goes this year. I recall reading Season 6 the sales were pretty low so not all idol tours are equal. I plan to go this year to take my daughter because it is something fun for us to do together, but I do think excitement about individual idols does help generate sales. Last year was the first year I went, and that was because I liked several of the idols AND my daughter was 6 so she was old enough to go.

For Lee, Crystal and the other members of Top10, I just hope they realize what they are in for when they go out on tour. They will be required to perform at the same level each night as the previous night. There will be very little downtime for the signed idols and it going to be even harder for Crystal since she has a young child and a medical condition to keep in check. Hopefully they are prepared for the mental & physical aspects of this type of tour. I remember last year when sickness was was taking over the guys bus, the guys still went out and performed each night. The one exception being Kris’s missed date due to dr’s orders. Many in the top 10 are so green that it worries me a little.

  • MG

Poor Lee must be exhausted….I think all 10 idols are performing in NY tonight for that M&M thing they were talking about on larry King….and then I know him and Crystal are doing the NY talk shows this week {they are performing on the today show on Thursday…what a schedule…hope he gets dome sleep!! Thanks for posting!!

  • Liva

Didn’t the Top 12 have a various medical issues – pneumonia, laryngitis, bronchitis, etc.? I saw an interview with Siobhan who said all but she was really sick. The only performer whom it affected performance day-wise was Paige. These folk should have a helluvan immune system by now!

  • Ximena

maybe he’s resting his voice or because of the memorial day…idk

  • kadoatie07

Do we know when they’re due in New York? I WANT MY IDOLATRY!

They should all be in New York tomorrow (Tuesday) for some kind of M&M’s performance thing. They talked about it on LKL on Friday. Hopefully, we’ll get Idolatry from Lee, Crystal and Casey soon, then. Can’t wait :)

  • wjmtv

I’m going to the tour for the first time this year, also with my daughter. I’m pretty excited. Best part? We’re going on July 2 in Milwaukee, which will be just performance #2. So no one should be sick yet! :)

Undercooked, a question: why would Disney have to pay anything for Lee if they’re an AI sponsor? Do the kids get union wages or something? I always assumed it was some kind of salary or package deal thing. Not that I know anything whatsoever about how all this works….

  • BootStar

I know a certain segment of fans tried to make the concert more than it was last year, but mainly, it’s something that appeals to the older demo and their kids, and they go because it is fun. They aren’t trying to make any statements.

    Exactly.

I’m actually thinking of going to see the tour for only the second time ever because I really want to see Crystal and Casey, Big Mike and Siobhan, and I like most of the others just fine. Never been a Lee fan, but I would never in a million years walk out on somebody’s performance. That’s beyond rude. Lee seems like a fun guy and is very talented; I’m sure he’ll do great on tour. I look forward to seeing what they all do.

  • aidancash

Yes they were all really sick this season. The streak where everyone got on casey rearend about song choice he said he made those choices because of being ill and not being able to sing much. Everyone got on him for dont stop but all you had to do was listen and hear how congested he was. He was sick for about 3 weeks its amazing he made it out of those three weeks.

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

Undercooked, a question: why would Disney have to pay anything for Lee if they’re an AI sponsor? Do the kids get union wages or something? I always assumed it was some kind of salary or package deal thing. Not that I know anything whatsoever about how all this works….

From what I read, and I could be getting this wrong, I thought the top 5 got $50,000 for doing the Disney Experience, and then the winner got $100,000 or $200,000 for saying “I’m going to Disney” plus I assumed that included an obligation to sing. If it’s the same pay rate as last year, why not have Lee sing? That’s why it seems odd that he isn’t singing. Why wouldn’t Disney want to get its money worth? Perhaps Lee isn’t getting the same amount of money and therefore isn’t obligated to sing?

I don’t know if my theory is correct at all, but that is the only reason I can see why Lee wouldn’t sing. UNLESS of course Lee is schedule to sing at another time, perhaps later in the year.

  • tiger92

will be very little downtime for the signed idols and it going to be even harder for Crystal since she has a young child

I keep seeing this. Do we think Crystal is really going to take a toddler on the tour bus with her? Why do people think a 16 month old is going to go on a cross-country summer tour? They wouldn’t put a toddler on a tour bus and shuffle him between cities and airports and hotels. I doubt it will even be a consideration.

  • wjmtv

I wonder if it’s because they all have to hop a plane for NY. The Giant M&M Concert in the Sky is a first. Perhaps that’s screwed up the schedule.

  • wjmtv

She said in one of her interviews on Thursday or Friday that he would be spending the next month with family. Other than that, I know nada.

  • Mariam94

Also, I like him saying he’s got a responsibility, now that he’s an AI winner, to create a great album for the fans. To me, this guy just *gets it*.

Liva, I couldn’t agree with you more. My respect for him just doubled when he said it. The guy really does get it.

I really hope people give him some support on tour & not just leave right after Crystal’s performance. I think hearing him live will really change your perspective of him as a singer/performer. I’ve read in multiple articles of people being at the live shows who were very impressed with Lee.

  • tiger92

The winner got 100K for the Disney commercial, but then got an extra 100K for a performance. Disney has been cutting back and they had a lay off this past year. Maybe it just wasn’t cost effective to pay someone 100K to sing a couple of songs. Did Cook do the performance the year before?

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

I wonder if M&M is going to sponsor the idol tour like poptart used to? We could get a guy dressed up in a giant M&M covered pretzle at the shows. :)

  • larc

They wouldn’t put a toddler on a tour bus and shuffle him between cities and airports and hotels. I doubt it will even be a consideration.

I agree! Having a baby on the bus crying when others are trying to catch much-needed sleep in the spare moments they can just wouldn’t be fair. Crystal won’t be the first touring Idol who has a baby. I’m not aware any of them have ever been allowed to take a baby along on the bus.

  • Pam

As far back as I can remember, I don’t think nor have I ever heard of any idol contestant (winner or otherwise) taking their children with them on the tour bus. I would say it’s probably not allowed.

ETA: Love the pics that are coming in.

  • aidancash

Well since their are only four girls on the girls tour bus it might be possibler for Crystal to bring a family member with her on tour so her son can be with her.

  • larc

Babies can’t ride, but others have to. Katie and Aaron will each be accompanied by a parent or guardian since they are both minors.

  • SybilTrelawney

There was no AI Experience at Disney the year Cook won, so I am not sure it was the same sort of gig.

  • Pam

Katie and Aaron will each be accompanied by a parent or guardian since they are both minors.

Exactly. The only contestants that will have someone accompanying them on the bus (because it’s a requirement) will be those under 18.

  • MaryS-NJ

IIRC, the AI Experience opened during season 8 – or after season 7. I’m pretty sure David Cook and the other Idol winners were all there at the launch. I think previous Idol winners have had parades at Disney.

  • girlygirl

There were only 3 girls on tour last year and Megan and Lil still weren’t allowed to have their kids travel on the bus with them (neither was Sarver on the guys’ bus). In fact, they barely even got to see the kids. It’ll probably be like that for Crystal and Mike and Andrew (they’re the only ones with kids, right?) this year.

  • Pam

the AI Experience opened during season 8 – or after season 7. I’m pretty sure David Cook and the other Idol winners were all there at the launch. I think previous Idol winners have had parades at Disney.

Yes, all of the winners from seasons 1-7 were present last year at the event (which was held in February) and received their idol trophies.

  • Liva

I get the feeling that, if he could, Lee would have performed for FREE @ Disneyworld. So appreciative of those that come out to see him, he’d have pulled out his gee-tar in a ‘Chicago’ minute. Plus, I think the guy is addicted to strumming and singing. Drat the rules!

  • larc

This Disney visit should be a trip down Memory Lane for Aaron Kelly since he performed at the American Idol Experience at Disney World last year and ultimately won. He got a Dream Ticket, which meant his first audition for AI in Orlando last summer was the one in front of the judges.

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

Disney has been cutting back and they had a lay off this past year.

Their big layoff was actually in 2009. My sister-in-law, a couple friends, and a former roommate were all involved in that layoff, so believe me, I’ve got that date burned in my brain. :)

Did Cook do the performance the year before?

As others have said, the idol experience opened during season 8, February 2009. I went to the media day they held in early February, and then the actual opening day was a couple days later on Valentines Day. All of the idol winners from seasons 1-7 were at the media day, as well as other alumni, and they all were also in a motorcade that also included Ryan and Paula. That’s when Cook and Carrie performed together and the winners all got their very own Disney mic statue or something. haha.

  • Incipit

Yes, all of the winners from seasons 1-7 were present last year at the event (which was held in February) and received their idol trophies.

February 12th, 2009 was the opening date – I recall because it was the day before the Declaration Tour opened in Tallahassee. Big Parade for the opening, a Press Line, and lots of past contestants were there. It was also the occasion of the Carrie Underwood/David Cook duet of “Go Your Own Way” on the new Idol Experience stage.

  • Kirsten

Hmmm… that raises some interesting questions. Wonder if her bf was the only guy on the bus when she was “dressed” like that or if all the others were there, too?

Yep. The bus had just arrived at a concert venue. One guy was off doing a promo concert elsewhere, but I think the rest were on the bus. IIRC correctly, there was some rumour about her being sick on the bus and that’s why she was wearing a sheet/blanket, but I’m not sure that totally makes things better.

I wonder if we will get any SCANDALS or Gates this year? Will Lee refuse to bring Crystal a teddy bear? Will Crystal be a b!tch because her diabetes flaired up and she didn’t sign autographs after the show? Will Aaron go on an angry rant against the fans? Will Didi cry? Will Big Mike try to eat the chocolate M&M pretzel mascot? Will Tim’s hair turn out to be a wig?

  • Idol Freak

Picture # 9 from the Orlando Attractions Magazine is simply divine – he looks scrumptious standing in between Mickey & Minnie. Check it out.

P.S. They are charging for a copy of the pictures…wtf ??

  • Tess

I have my suspicions that the AI tour, this year, won’t be like the one done the last two years where they had versatile and strong performers who really were much different than each other. I think the tour will be more like season 6..lots of group numbers, some guitar play-offs, a bunch of duets, and some solos. The order will be pretty mixed…with Lee getting his “moment” just before the goodbye group sing. So no problem with peeps leaving after Crystal’s set (heh…that Chris, Kris, Crystal, Kelly, Kellie thing runs deep through idol…guess peeps like that “K” sound).

And as far as the idols performing night after night…the tour is reduced considerably from last year…and this years group just don’t have the power voices that have been exhibited the last few years, so they shouldn’t be as susceptable to voice fatigue.

    I haven’t followed all seasons closely, just 5, 8, and 9. Who/when was this?

  • jpfan

She was sick and the bus was parked so I don’t think any other Idols were on it. And I don’t think she was just wearing a sheet. I thought she was wrapped in a blanket fully clothed or something.

That is if we’re talking about the same girl. Maybe tons of Idols have had their gfs along for the tour. ;)

Yeah, Kirsten, spill it; I have no recollection of that!

Kirsten are we talking about the same girl S5?
I don’t remember a sheet just a blanket. :) So you may be referring to someone else. Your story sounds better than mine.

  • Kirsten

Kirsten are we talking about the same girl S5?
    I don’t remember a sheet just a blanket.

I’m sure we are ;-). I think you are right about the blanket. Anyway, it was a great scandal. I believe the first time that MJ served MaiTais. It was tied in with arm licking and fans being bad fans for posting pictures (of the lass wearing the blankie. There were no arm licking photos. Just eye witness reports).

Yeah, Kirsten, spill it; I have no recollection of that!

Isn’t it funner to guess? I’ll give you a hint: It wasn’t the winner and it wasn’t a married guy and it wasn’t Ace.

I thought she was wrapped in a blanket fully clothed or something.

I think you couldn’t tell from the photos and that is what yielded much of the debate. And didn’t she came off the bus as they arrived at the venue, so there were others there.

In any event, it didn’t seem to much bother the other guys. I’m sure there are lots of things that go on in the bus.

It was just such an epic fan meltdown at the time and the first time I’d seen the Idol partner get blasted so (I’d missed out on all the previous ones).

That was an excellent year for Scandals. BlankieGate! IceCreamGate! SmokeGate! And that was all in the first month.

That leaves a few to guess from. Hmmmm.

    It was Elliott

  • offside

    NO! Not innocent Elliott?

  • http://www.dallascowboys.com GeminiDolly

Elliott is no innocent. LOL. Wasnt he seen licking or nibbling his girlfriends arm somewhere???

  • http://www.dallascowboys.com GeminiDolly

Bummer Lee is not performing. I was looking forward to that. During the competition, I have never found Lee to be cute, but lately after watching some of his interviews, he is kinda cute??

  • Idolnewby

Its good they did this in the morning as the rains have come here in Orlando this afternoon.

  • Lu

    OMG… I cannot believe what we’re reliving…. hahahahahahahaha… good times, good times. :)

  • jpfan

Elliott isn’t exactly the dude seen on Idol. Although he’s a sweet guy, that part is for real.

Update on a slow news day. I think that gf is no longer in the picture.

Baby Tony is cute. Vain attempt to stay on topic.

  • Nina1

Wasnt he seen licking or nibbling his girlfriends arm somewhere???

Yup. And to think I can’t remember a song lyric for beans.

  • Lu

That gf is no longer in the picture.

Really? I’m behind on my Elliott news! What next guy? Seriously?

  • Junior

I remember that girlfriend! I remember seeing her at the VooDoo lounge shadow tour concert in LA.

I’m sure none of the guys would have objected to her hanging around the bus in just a sheet ;)

  • jpfan

It’s always a bad sign when guys tweet pictures of women and say OMG she’s so hot. Usually a sign that the gf/wife is out of the picture. ;) Twitter is the devil, you know.

Girlfriends on tour, yes. Babies and wives, no. ;)

  • Junior

Wasn’t it also at the VooDoo Lounge that the supposed arm-licking took place? I think there is a picture of this somewhere floating around?

    Good times.

  • Lu

I hadn’t heard that about Elliott’s gf, jpfan. Are you sure? I’m sorry to be off topic MJ… we stepped back in time but it’s all in fun.

  • BootStar

Will Lee refuse to bring Crystal a teddy bear? Will Crystal be a b!tch because her diabetes flaired up and she didn’t sign autographs after the show? Will Aaron go on an angry rant against the fans? Will Didi cry? Will Big Mike try to eat the chocolate M&M pretzel mascot? Will Tim’s hair turn out to be a wig?

LMAO. Well, there have been a couple of reports of Casey greeting people in his hotel room in nothing more than a robe or a scarf, so maybe we’ll find out he’s an avowed nudist. That would certainly spice things up.

and this years group just don’t have the power voices that have been exhibited the last few years, so they shouldn’t be as susceptable to voice fatigue.

What??? The “power voices” come from people who know how to support their vocals properly. They’re less likely to develop vocal issues than untrained singers. Just because someone can’t project doesn’t mean he or she isn’t doing damage.

  • Lu

Well, there have been a couple of reports of Casey greeting people in his hotel room in nothing more than a robe

Can someone tell me what hotel the idols are staying in??? LOLOLOL.

  • jpfan

I follow Elliott on twitter and he hasn’t mentioned that gf in quite awhile unfortunately.

So two and two= ??? Anyway, since this tour does have some single and available folk there may be some gossip that comes out of it.
Let’s see how about Casey and Crystal as a possible pair? Didn’t she say she had a crush on him. Or Lee and Siobhan. Ugh I sound like one of those tweens on Idol Forums. Time to stop.

  • karenc

Speaking of the Idol trophy, I don’t think they gave Lee one at least not on camera.

Other thing, tonight the top 10 is supposed to be on Larry King again for the second part. It must have been taped.

  • Lu

Let’s see how about Casey and Crystal as a possible pair?

Nah… I’m holding out for Lee and Crystal (the 2010 version of James T and Carly Simon). ;)

  • Glamour

OK, here’s what happened with Elliot and the girlfriend. I was there at the buses and saw the whole thing. The girlfriend had a hangover because they celebrated Elliot’s birthday the night before. When she got on the bus, she was wearing a sun dress and was wrapped up in a blanket. Someone took a bucket into the bus because she was throwing up. The fans were yelling at Elliot to come over and sign stuff, but he ignored all of them because the was concerned about the girlfriend. I was right next to the barricade and saw the whole thing. Good times, indeed!

  • Pam

    It was Elliott

ahhhh now I remember. Yes, the lightbulb finally cut on. heh I had forgotten about that.

Oh, thanks Kirsten for the note. ;)

    LOL jpfan.

Actually casey did this horrible interview the other day with a stupid shock jock. It was so bad. They asked him about crystal and the breakup and he said that it didnt suprise him because there had been conversations. So it sounds like she may have confided in him a little bit about it. So who knows. ha ha.

  • Trina

Speaking of the Idol trophy, I don’t think they gave Lee one at least not on camera.

He actually did get it after the cameras cut but considering they could barely get his whole song in I’m not shocked that was missed.

  • http://www.dallascowboys.com GeminiDolly

Will Tim’s hair turn out to be a wig?

They were all good, but this one made me LMFAO the most. Good stuff.

Any word if Lee will be performing at the annual Walmart Shareholders Meeting this year? It is June 4th. I thought this was a big perk for an AI winner. I wonder if any other AI alums will play also. Daughtry played an outdoor concert last year.

That’s a good question. I’ve tried doing a quick search to see if I could find anything in regards for a schedule that might list this year’s performers/guests and I can’t find anything at the moment.

This is what I found on Wal-Mart’s corporate page. It is dated 5/26.

So I hate Walmart, but geez, let the guy play Walmart!! Disney screwed him out of a live acoustic performance, Walmart freaking better not do the same. Same goes for Crystal.

Hm.. I never thought of it as a perk so much as one of the things you have to do as part of your indentured servitude ;-)

Idol fans always go nuts – “this one or that one did so well and got a standing ovation!” as if that has any impact on anything. It doesn’t. Shareholders are not buyers. They don’t have any influence on sales. They’re just in town to get drunk and have a good time. Wal-Mart will buy whatever they will buy of Lee’s album based on stats, his iTunes sales and past history of Idol winners. The shareholder’s meeting is just something he has to do for his corporate overlords.

  • Liva

    Five, six figure indentured servitude?

  • babybelle32

Hm.. I never thought of it as a perk so much as one of the things you have to do as part of your indentured servitude

Indentured servants don’t get paid $100,000 for singing on stage for less than thirty minutes.

  • Liva

… for singing on stage for less than thirty minutes.

They’ll need the big Walmart hook to drag him off the stage. Just like Arlington, no way he leaves willingly in under thirty minutes!

They get paid. A lot. It’s a perk.

As far as I know – the managers and executives and marketing directors and such still have stock options at WalMart – which makes them also shareholders – I checked into this in Season7 – it can’t hurt to establish a successful connection with the decision makers – and a large percentage of the new albums purchased is going to pass thru the Walmartian cash registers. It’s a symbiotic relationship – those venues are enormous and quite full for the performance – also sweet – along with the sweet paycheck. IMO. Of Course.

Not to mention you get to hang out with celebrities. I remember Kris’s duet with Smokey Robinson and his skit with Ben Stiller (sexy face).

  • Grammie Kari

Last year, the Idols got up to $50,000 for publicity shots and maybe singing? I wonder how much money they made today?

Let’s see, if big Mike hadn’t been the benefactor of the Judge’s Save, Siobhan would have been at Disney World today. :frown:

  • Trina

I suppose it could be pre-taped but Lee will be on Jimmy Fallon on 6/8 so I dont know how that impacts the Walmart thing. Do they normally spend that much time in NYC when the winners do the promo stuff?

  • sallysimmons

    Five, six figure indentured servitude?

If they get paid six figures for playing at Wal-Mart, I am an astronaut. Wal-Mart doesn’t pay – they take. The artist shows up because the record label tells them to, and the record label tells them to because they owe Wal-Mart.

Being a recording artist is mostly a way to rack up debt, not a way to get rich. Most people are not Jay-Z. Indentured servitude? Hell yes.

Yes, some executives at Wal-Mart own stock, but those executives are not buyers. Trust me, I’ve dealt with Wal-Mart. Their decisions are based on algorithms not ‘feelings.’ It won’t hurt Lee to sing for the rich people who own stock, but it won’t change one thing about the number of copies he sells. You won’t believe me, clearly, because you’ve googled, but it’s true.

  • Liva

So, whether or not he gets paid (I know nothing, but professional – unionized – musicians usually get paid for corporate gigs, no?) I feel quite justified now in my hatred for Walmart after reading sallysimmons post.

  • tripp_ncwy

Those who appear do get paid for attending the event. You think Smokey Robinson, Michael Jordan, Smokey Robinson, Foreigner, Daughtry, Miley Cyrus, Brad Paisley and so on are appearing just for the sake of it. They appear because it is an easy paycheck.

Wouldn’t 19M be responsible for scheduling this type of event since it has nothing to due with the AI albums?

  • Incipit

The artist shows up because the record label tells them to, and the record label tells them to because they owe Wal-Mart.

It keeps going in a circle, Sally Simons – and it’s the game they signed up for, when you are speaking of AI. – “The record label tells them to because they owe WalMart “- and the record label wants to keep Walmart happy because they stock and sell a lot of the records, (check the media pages when this gets going) so they give them a Walmart exclusive song, and selling a lot of records is one avenue towards recoupment of debt for the artist- another even better way (for the artist) is selling concert tickets to the people who bought the record at WalMart, (among other places) and requested it from their radio stations, where the label paved the way with the legal version of payola, which leads the radio stations to sponsor more concerts and promotions, which sells more records and other concert tickets, which gives the artist good chart numbers and leverage towards the next record – which is why the artist signed up for this game in the first place.

Some have been known to say they are financially solvent while still making music, for the first time in their lives, in fact.

It is certainly not the best of all possible worlds, the music business – more like a Mobius strip – but what part of it would one expect the winner or runner up of AI to turn down? The part where they are in breech of the contract they signed – and can’t legally sell any music at all until the public has almost forgotten about them?

The label is the bank – they will loan in hope of a profit. They will spend on the PR, co-writers and producers necessary to achieve that profit. If it’s a bad loan – the AI artist doesn’t have to pay back. If it works out – they take their profit. It’s a business, flawed as it is

Things likely are different on different levels – but you were speaking of AI winners- and the music business.
Indentured servants received room and board – there is considerably more at stake here.

    Just My Opinion. Of Course.

  • babybelle32

I suppose it could be pre-taped but Lee will be on Jimmy Fallon on 6/8 so I dont know how that impacts the Walmart thing. Do they normally spend that much time in NYC when the winners do the promo stuff?

Kris was there for over a week. He did Fallon, Regis and Kelly, The Today Show, CBS Early Show, Mike and Juliet, Jimmy Fallon, Huckabee, and there are probably a couple more that I’m missing.

ETA: Gina Orr just tweeted that Lee will be on Regis and Kelly tomorrow, and Chrystal will be on Wednesday’s show. I wonder if Casey will do the show, since Danny got to do it last year.

  • AndreaH

This is what has been reported that Kris made last year from the Disney appearance. The article doesn’t mention anything about a requirement to sing live during his appearance, even though he did, but he was obligated to tape a performance for the Disney Christmas Parade TV show:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/24/arts/television/24idol.html?scp=1&sq=kris%20allen&st=cse

An Idol winner’s riches extend beyond the recording contract. Last year the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida opened “The American Idol Experience,” an interactive attraction.

To promote it, Disney paid Mr. Allen $100,000 to turn to a camera and shout, “I’m going to Disney World” after winning the competition and to visit the park, according to the contracts. He stood to earn another $100,000 for spending a day filming scripted dialogue segments for use in the attraction and for taping a vocal performance for the Walt Disney World Christmas Parade television show.

Looks like a fairly easy way to make $200,000. :)

  • Incipit

You won’t believe me, clearly, because you’ve googled, but it’s true.

Not because I’ve Googled, Sally, because two years ago I knew the then manager of a WalMart Superstore who was willing to share intel – right down to how many records from the Season7 winner had been ordered for each store across the country – it was a staggering amount.

There is no Good Guy in this scenario – not the Labels, not American Idol, and not WalMart, for certain – just a food chain – and just facts. Facts say the winners signed on the dotted line – Forbes (which is also not totally to be trusted) says the winners have made a considerable amount of money, because they understood how the machine works.

We can be sorry that there is such a system at all – but a paradigm shift isn’t just around the corner, so it doesn’t change anything. IMO.

  • Liva

Incipit, not only was yours an interesting post, I’d never heard of a Mobius strip before (seen them though). Learned something new. Good stuff!

  • slezakrocks

    Hey, Why the Top 5?

  • slezakrocks

I don’t know why the Idols have to visit Disney’s theme parks. I find Disney really cheesy (Remember Camp Rock? Hannah Montana?) but I will give them credit for Pixar Movies.

  • Trina

Disney is legendary and isnt only about Hanna Montana and Camp Rock. Way, way back before they existed there were iconic Disney films dating back to the 1920′s. Idols visit the same reason they do Ford commercial during the show, favors to companies with Idol tie-ins.

  • slezakrocks

@Trina Yes I know that Disney revolutionized the cartoon world, but now it evolved into cheesy teen shows like Hannah Montana, Camp Rock, Demi lovato, etc…

  • MaryS-NJ

I don’t know why the Idols have to visit Disney’s theme parks. I find Disney really cheesy (Remember Camp Rock? Hannah Montana?) but I will give them credit for Pixar Movies.

I’m pushing 50, have been to Walt Disney World three times in my adult life with my kids of all ages and I’ve had as much fun as they have. Disney not only makes family-friendly movies (many of which I still love… Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Toy Story) but other entertainment ventures. I’m not ashamed to admit I love Disney theme parks and resorts and Disney movies.

@ I know that Disney revolutionized the cartoon world, but now it evolved into cheesy teen shows like Hannah Montana, Camp Rock, Demi lovato, etc…

Disney’s kid-friendly shows are just a few of their many, many entertainment products. I’ll say this about those cheesy shows, the Music Director of our school district said that because of High School Musical, more kids – especially boys – became interested in trying out for the school musical, bands and chorus. If the cheese gets kids participating in music I think that’s a plus, personally.
