Leona Lewis on Good Morning America

Leona Lewis on Good Morning America

Pop R&B isn’t my thing, but even I have to admit she sings this stuff really well. After the jump, watch Leona perform her hit song “Bleeding Love” and her upcoming single “Better in Time”. Her album Spirit drops next Tuesday.

There’s something about her voice that kind of pulls me away, but she does sing quite well. Great performer, too.

She has the kind of voice that can sing anything — she’s Aretha/Mariah/Celine all in one. She can sing jazz, country, pop, rock….she’s a manager’s dream….just what Clive and Simon look for.

She has an awesome voice. I watched the videos of her on the X Factor on you tube. I also noticed that Simon wore a suit, and, actually gave standing ovations and clapped during her performances. How different from the Simon we see in the t-shirts, looking into the audience, scowling, and, virtually seeming to ignore the American Idol contestants.

She also reminds me of a younger, prettier, more talented Terri Seymour. What has happened to her? Don’t hear much about her any more.

awesome voice, can totally understand why the record execs were ready to hype and market Leona, she can flat out sing and she is stunning , understated in her dress as well, which is appealing after all the r/b and hip hop trashiness that is out there.
Simon seems more “civilized” on the X factor show, I actually found him to be making sense, am tired of the mean and bored image he has on American idol, his “tuned out” attitude is dull

Leona doesn’t do anything for me, she was a bit shrieky on X Factor and the same criticisms thrown at her as Carrie, no personality when she sings. She’s improved a bit on that. I don’t like the diva riff singing personally but I can appreciate she has a good voice.

The reason Simon is so supportive is he was her mentor. The XFactor was different format to AI as there were three groups, under 24s, over 24s and groups. Each judge had a group as a mentor and Simion was hers. You have never seen pimping the likes of Leona! He saw money, and the huge ego of wanting his prodigy to win. So she was shoved down our throats at every opportunity!

Terri and Simon are still together. She interviewed him for Extra the other day which I happened to catch. She asked him if the rumor that he bought Leona a 5 mill. house was true and he said no.

I think Leona has a lovely voice but the type of songs she does isn’t my thing.

Well, I finally heard “Bleeding Love” on my local top 40 station this morning, for the first time. I’m sure that’s not the first time it’s been played but it’s the first time I’ve heard it.

I’m not so much a fan of the big “diva” kind of singing either, but I too can recognize that she has a great voice for it. And she’s a beautiful girl, too.

I must admit when the first time I hear about a person it’s in the context of being another….or better than……it puts me off. I watched the youtube videos when I first started hearing the buzz and it was ok, didn’t blow me away, but then it took a few listens for me to get Amy Winehouse, so somethings grow on me. Leona is one of those people. My deal is that I get so tired of the generic non singers making a mint on catchy beats with no real content. At the very least Leona can really sing and it’s not smoke and mirrors. She won’t embarrass herself with an inablity to sing live, and she has a pretty voice with good range. I also like her personality, she seems to be laid back and greatful for the opportunity. What is happening to her is a rarity because female singers from the UK rarely have any pop success here, especially of this magnitude. She is going to be huge. He crossover appeal has Simon and Clive quite happy.

This is something I’ve been wondering about for some time - why is Leona Lewis being featured on this site, which is dedicated to American Idol? I realize she has a Simon Cowell connection, but it still puzzles me, as she has nothing to do with this show. Just curious.

I realize she has a Simon Cowell connection,

    You answered your own question.

I also covered “The Next Great American Band” last fall, which has nothing to do with “American Idol”, except that they shared producers.

I caught a news blip the other night that stated Simon had purchased a 5 million dollar home for this gal. Why?

I am not into diva-songstresses, either, but she’s good at what she does.

Now, as long as she can stay away from crack and heroin, she may be okay and have a future.

I noticed the resemblance between her and Terri, too. I find that curious, if not just plain interesting.

The first time I heard Amy Winehouse was a stop-dead-in-my-tracks - “WOAH! Who is THAT?”- moment. I had no idea who she was or what she looked like but I had to know more because I loved the sound of her music - sort of retro soul with a modern twist - and her quirky voice.

If I didn’t know who Leona Lewis is, I wouldn’t give her a passing thought. “Bleeding Love” is a pleasant song but sort of standard fare radio pop as far as I’m concerned. It’s the sort of music I expect to hear in the supermarket or Doctor’s waiting room. “Better in Time” sounds like something Kat McPhee or Jordin Sparks might have recorded. Meh.

Leona has a nice voice to be sure, but so do many pop artists. I don’t personally hear anything terribly distinctive about her. She’ll probably sell tons, of course.
