Matt Giraud just tweeted some good news:

just signed with ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) http://bit.ly/b39IGn

From the Music Row.com blurb Matt linked to:

Matt Giraud, American Idol Top Five Finalist, Season 8, has signed with ASCAP. He is currently working on an EP with Grammy-winning producer Drew Ramsey to be released this summer. Victoria Shaw, Marcus Hummon and JT Harding are collaborators on the new project. The soulful pianist is also busy on tour.

EP coming this summer. Awesome. Congratulations Matt!

ASCAP is one of the performing rights societies (BMI and SESAC are as well) that collects and manages songwriting royalties for artists.

Not only will ASCAP collect and split the songwriting royalites Matt earns from the use of his music in radio, TV,   movies,   etc.–they work closely with publishers and could help Matt eventually land a music publishing deal.

(thanks Fred Bronson!)
