Melinda Doolittle made a surprise appearance on the Today Show this morning as part of the show’s “The Today Show Throws a Wedding” feature. The bride is her cousin!
Watch her sing “Never Felt this Way” as the bride and groom dance their first dance.

I am happy to hear that Melinda is finally coming out with an album. I hadn’t heard anything about her in a long time.
Awww, I always cry at weddings, but receptions on TV? :cry_tb:sniff, sniff. That was so sweet.
I didn’t watch season six of AI. Looks like I missed a wonderful contestant!
I guess I don’t know how to use the ’smiley’ icons.
Awww, I love Melinda.
So good to hear Melinda again! I just love her voice.
That was such a nice surprise! Great to see/hear Melinda again. And her cousin’s wedding makes such a lovely setting.
Cheers to Melinda’s album!
That was really nice. That couple is too cute for words.
I love Melinda’s voice. I hope her album does well. She so deserves it!
mj…there’s a couple of pictures of Paris Bennett on Rodney Ho’s blog that you might be interested in seeing. No confirmation yet but there’s a distinct ‘bump’.
MELINDA! This made my day!
She doesn’t make me swoon the way Cookie does, but she’s still my all-time fave.
I loved Melinda on AI. Can’t wait for her CD. I hope they didn’t force her into hip/hop. What a waste of a beautiful voice if they did. Her version of My Funny Valentine was amazing!
I am SO going to pick up her CD this fall - Thanks for posting this - I didn’t realize how much I missed Melinda.
Melinda has said that her CD is going to be new soul meets old soul. Also, for those who don’t follow her too closely - This Holiday season she is going to be releasing a full lenghth Christmas CD and that will be followed by her Sophmore album at the start of 2009. She is going to be throwing a lot of music our way in a very short time, but as a Melinda fan, I’m not complaining.
Awww, mindy doo! I feel like a sap but I always love these Today Show weddings. How cool is that the bride is her cousin?!
Thank you so much for posting this, MJ! I really needed a Melinda fix. She sounded amazing, and wow, I really can’t wait for that album to drop. Since I live in Nashville for school, hopefully I’ll be able to finally see her perform live sometime in the fall.
Can’t wait for her album. Supposedly, she collaborated with Jonny Lang on a song or two….
MINDY! Man, I’ve missed her. She sounded great. Love love love her, and I can’t wait for that CD to drop. :)
Great videos.
Sounds like Melinda took her time in putting out her album. She just didn’t want to release a rushed effort.
It should be worth it. I can’t wait.
I love Melinda. What a sweetheart! She sounds great on “Love You I Do,” too. How funny that by the time her album is out, Blake has already been dropped by his label. I’m not sure if that means it’s better to come in third than second. Or vice versa. Guess we’ll have to wait for the album.
Rain or shine, hit or dud, I will still love Mindy Doo, though.
Damn, the girl can sing her face off. I love Melinda her spirit is infectious. I will purchase her cd as soon as I can get my greedy little hands on it. She is a class act.
I know it’s not a competition and they are both great, but I think I liked Melinda’s version over Jennifer Hudson’s.
I hope the personality of Melinda’s singing translates to record. She needs a good producer and some lively, sassy songs. I recall that I liked her Idol on-air performances much better than her downloadable recorded versions. She doesn’t do as well with sappy love ballads.
