    Michael cleans up nicely.

I thought that Idol #7 is the one who usually gets to go the Dinner. I remember Constantine, Ace and Sanjaya went in past years. Kristy Lee Cook got screwed. (Or maybe she went too. LOL.)

It’s all in who wants to invite you, Gabam. Chris Sligh also went last season.

    Very cute pic. :smile1_tb:

    Oh. Thanks bean99.

  4. 4 Virgii5 Apr 27th, 2008 at 12:21 pm

He looks good there, but older than he looked on the show. Maybe he’s just tired.

Tony Kornheiser is the best.. I guess he’ll be talking about it on monday morning show.

Nice suit, MJ. And nice hair. I don’t have anything else to say, really. lol

  6. 6 dancingqueen Apr 27th, 2008 at 12:41 pm

Sorry, one of the worst pics of him. The facial expression is nice, but, IMO, he really needs a hair stylist. There’s good bedhead and bad bedhead - why isn’t Ana making him gel? Outfit has no spark to it, either. Glad he got to attend, though.

  7. 7 sciencefan Apr 27th, 2008 at 1:25 pm

He still hasn’t combed his hair.

  8. 8 chachi Apr 27th, 2008 at 1:32 pm

Yes, I am not a fan of that outfit at all. He looks like he stepped out of some dance in an 80’s movie.

  9. 9 Hisaki Apr 27th, 2008 at 1:53 pm

…so apparently I’m the only one who likes that outfit on him? Sigh.

Nope, not just you. I think he looks rather handsome and dressed appropriately for the occasion.

  11. 11 GwendolynD Apr 27th, 2008 at 4:06 pm

Although the face and hair work for mem, the shirt and tie do not. The tie is too skinny. The shirt is all wrong. I would have loved to see an ascot, though.

  12. 12 bean99 Apr 27th, 2008 at 4:30 pm

Skinny ties are in again. I think he looks great, especially in the full length pics. I also love the “bed head”.

  13. 13 Chicago-sally Apr 27th, 2008 at 5:03 pm

When Sanjaya attended last year he was mobbed.
Don’t think that could have happened to MJohns, however, it would have been nice if the Irish press would have invited Carly. What happened with that invitation?

  14. 14 maracaibo Apr 27th, 2008 at 5:16 pm

    MJ looks GREAT….
Very hot… I can’t wait for his career start. I know we will be hearing from a record deal soon. The media loves him…
Actually when Michael arrived at the dinner he was received by tons of screaming fans. It was nice to watch.

I am also glad he is still in the public eye. Seems people can’t have enough of him.
I understand. He was so robbed..

Carly and Michael along with both David’s should have been the top 4. America really got it all wrong.. Why are Syesha and Brooke still there? Don’t understand..

It’s OK though, in the end Michael will benefit from his shocking elimination.. I bet he will be one of the success stories of this season.

  15. 15 Chicago-sally Apr 27th, 2008 at 5:25 pm

Maracaibo: Don’t go bashing Syesha….she can sing on key and if she comes out of her shell, she’s really good on the stage.

it’s Brooke I don’t get. She’s like the coffeehouse singer on a big stage. And that little goody too-shoes nanny act….how does she expect to make it in the cut throat world of show business?

  16. 16 jpfan Apr 27th, 2008 at 5:46 pm

He looks cute but needs to comb that hair.

  17. 17 SpenserJ Apr 27th, 2008 at 6:42 pm

America really got it all wrong.. Why are Syesha and Brooke still there? Don’t understand..

Well, to be fair to America….. There are over 300 million people in America and only about 22 million of them watch idol. And only a fraction of those viewers vote. So, it’s not “America’s” fault, just a very small portion of Americans :)

And, to be fair to those people who voted for Syesha and/ or Brooke - you don’t have to get it. Obviously, for some reason they like them. And, those reasons could be as varied as the population who votes for them. There’s no way of knowing, but we’re a land of many tastes here.

Syesha, Brooke and Jason (or whoever else one thinks is unworthy of still being here at this point) have all earned their spots. Whether we like it or not. It’s not their fault that someone we may have liked better went first. They prepared their song, got out there and sang it, and a certain number of people responded.

  19. 19 littlejo Apr 27th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

It must have been something for him to go to, being Australian. I loved the song he did during Dolly week but he never sounded as good before or after.

  20. 20 Nikki Apr 27th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

He really is all sorts of FUG

  21. 21 Sarah Apr 27th, 2008 at 8:53 pm

I agree, littlejo. Most of his performances were good, but not great, and you can’t coast in this competition. The Dolly week song was just a little too late.

I think Michael is handsome, but I can’t stand skinny ties, and that ruins this picture for me.

It it was amazing to me when they showed his boot video that I thought he was better looking at the start of the show than he is now. I don’t know what it is, but that’s just what I thought.

  22. 22 bean99 Apr 27th, 2008 at 8:55 pm

I’d love to see Michael still in and resent Jason, Syesha, and Brooke a bit but what can you do? I guess it’s better to go before your time than to outlast it in the public’s eyes.

I was a bit surprised at all of the girls squealing when they saw Michael but have seen it before on AI Extra and other appearances. My inner girl would be screaming too. :innocent1_tb:

DON’T tell your fellow posters what to do. RESPECT OPINIONS. Not everyone is going to like the same Idols. It’s especially rude when you chastise a poster for bashing, and then go on to bash another Idol.

Perhaps a refresher is in order. Read my guidelines:

To each his own. :) I don’t think he coasted at all. He had several performances that I thought were great. Across the Universe immediately comes to mind as one of his brilliant performances, and one that gets heavy rotation on my iPod. If anyone’s coasted, I’d say it was David A., who never goes out of his box. And it’s a very boring box in my opinion. :)

  25. 25 wfowfowfo Apr 27th, 2008 at 9:28 pm

    Hell, I’d do him.

On a more serious note — I’ve got a couple of his songs from ITunes, and have to agree with RollTide — Across the Universe is really terrific.

  26. 26 Trina Apr 27th, 2008 at 9:30 pm

His hair looks the best when he has nothing in it. When you would see him in the Coke Behind the Scenes videos or some of the Ford videos where his hair is plain and not fussed with it looks completely different and it even makes him look younger.

I think the longer you stay in the competition, the better your chances post Idol.

I loved his recording of “Across The Universe.” One of my favorite downloads of the season.

I think his problem was that he didn’t really make an impact until towards the end of his run. His performances in the semi’s… well, there wasn’t one that stood out at all, despite the pimpage. The other guys were gaining the fanbases.

    Well… I agree..
He never coast at all.. Maybe in the semifianls but once he hit his stride he showed he was one of the best…
Go take a look at his It’s all Wrong but it’s All right.. After that performance all the others looked like complete amateurs..
The show is just boring now without him. JMHO. He brought a lot of flair..
By the way I think the only handsome guy in there was him… Just saying.
    Everything looks good in him.

To each his own. :) I don’t think he coasted at all. He had several performances that I thought were great.

They might have been “great”, but you can’t just be “great” when there are people giving standout performances, some of which could possibly stand up as some of the performances of the season, if not the whole series. JMO.

David A has been coasting, too, yes.

  30. 30 Sarah Apr 27th, 2008 at 11:53 pm

Can’t edit for some reason, sorry. :)

Yeah, I think that’s definitely part of it. I can’t even remember 2 out of the 3 songs. IMO, it can’t be denied that he coasted through the semi’s and part of the way through the top 12, too. “Across the Universe” was underappreciated, I agree. He just started waking up and hitting his stride way too late.

I see the reason MJ was booted #8 was b/c he really didn’t have a WOW performance until Week #9. Not one of his performances before that (except for Hollywood week) were anything that people were talking about the next day. At the same time, the 2 Davids, Jason, and Brooke were giving break-out perfomances that were memorable and that developed a strong fanbase. Sure, people like MJ and recognized his talent, but his performances were just good to adequate, never really great. A bad song choice during Week 8 was his downfall- he didn’t have the fanbase to stick by him when he didn’t connect with the song/audience/theme that week.

Very handsome this Michael guy is.

Absolutely right! All I kept hearing people talk about when they spoke of Michael, was that they had thought he was going to be so much better than he was turning out to be and what happened? Not the kind of buzz a contestant looks for!

  34. 34 RollTide Apr 28th, 2008 at 8:02 am

See, that’s where we differ. I do think some of his performances were standout. As I said, I thought Across the Universe was brilliant. It’s All Wrong was brilliant. And obviously you *can* stay in the competition without any standout performances. To me, *none* of Carly’s, David A.’s, or Syesha’s performances have been “standout” and they outlasted him. I love Brooke, but she’s fallen apart onstage and outlasted him. Anyway, that’s just my opinion of course. :) :)

One thing about Michael is that his studio recording are really, really good. His recording voice is incredible. I think he didn’t always pick the best songs but sometimes he did but either was denied by the producers or it went to another singer. If he’d had Midnight Hour instead of David H and was able to do INXS Never Tear Us Apart (rather than Go Your Own Way), I believe he’d have stood out earlier on. He wasn’t pimped other than maybe the first week of the semis and even then he was really good. I think Randy & Simon were extremely tough on him. Across the Universe boring?

Of course it’s better to last longer, PJ, but you can get bad press if you last too long. I think that’s what’s going to happen to Jason and maybe Brooke.

    I agree.

In his pre-Idol work, though, the only song I love (so far) is The Hours In Between. I hope his album post-AI contains more tunes like that (rather than the other material on that CD of his).

In this article, Michael reportedly said that Condoleeza Rice told him: “You’re a great singer. You got robbed.”
