My pick for this week: I’m banking on Carly Smithson getting the boot. She’s a talented singer, but has yet to have a knockout performance. Despite her talent, I don’t think she’s been able to connect the viewing audience. Syesha Mercado has been on the verge, but as the last African American contestant left standing and the only R&B singer, I think she’s going to squeak by a few more weeks. Brooke White has been faltering and could be B3, but I think the pimp spot, and the fact that she sang a beloved song, “You’ve Got a Friend” reasonably well this week, will keep her safe. Kristy Lee Cook had a good performance this week. She gets a reprieve. I don’t think she’ll even hit B3.
However, for you conspiracy theorists out there–somebody at Idol Forums heard Nigel give an interview on Sirius radio this morning, and this is what he said (paraphrased by the poster at IDF):
…Tonights results might surprise quite a few people and reminds people that its important that the singers do well each week and that someone can be riding high at the top of the pack and the next week be gone. He mentioned Constantine who had never been in the bottom 3 and had been a star with BR and then just like that he was eliminated…

It’s going to be Syesha, you could tell by the look on her face. Very depressed, very worried. But you know, they should all be prepared to go at this point. It’s down to 8 and they’re going on tour. Good show.

Of the three, Syesha’s the one I could say goodbye to the easiest.
When Ryan asked “Who got the lowest number of votes?”, Carly raised her hand. Wonder if she looked at DI? Hmmm….
Michael Johns? Amazing surprise. But at this time that’s what happens. A total surprise. I thought he was much better than all the guys except David Cook. I never got the feeling that Michael was in it to win until now.

So it was Michael, and Carly was there in the bottom 3. My feelings are that they want Carly to be in the TOP 3 but might settle for Brooke. They definitely do not want Jason in the TOP 3. For some, Season 3 was boring because it had three girls in the TOP 3.
So, I can see them depimping Jason. What will happen with Kristy? I have no idea.
No. Jordin and Blake had both already begun their emergence as contenders, and Lakisha’s star was falling fast. Many people were actually predicting she would go the week of the top 8 because she was so low on DI and had a very lackluster performance.
Not only that, I have to believe that Lakisha would have left on IGB week according to Nigel’s comments this week. He said the person who had the lowest number of votes that week got a free pass. Poor Phil and Chris R.
I had the sinking feeling Michael was leaving after reading Nigel’s alleged comments, but I did not want that to happen and so refused to put any points on him (as though I could will his stay, doh!). Now I got zero points in the pool and zero Michael on the show! :(
