Please clarify…. “another video of her doing it”

Also, the girl is listed as being 15, she certainly doesn’t qualify as being a consenting adult…

I changed my original saying, i meant to say another video of him doing it.
I know she’s 15, I personally don’t think she looks 15 and I doubt before Akon did that he asked if she was 15. I am in no way saying what he did was right. But I think why she’s suing him is because it was on youtube and a lot of people saw it. If no one saw it we wouldn’t hear about it.

  2. 302 Kirsten May 7th, 2007 at 6:52 pm

A fellow Kat fan asked her a question about something, and she said an octave is 7 steps.

Well, perhaps Raina made a typo (we cannot all be free from making mistakes) or there was some context to it that we are now missing.

In any event, it would appear from her website that she knows some musical theory and is a reliable source of information on ranges demonstrated on the show.

OMG - I gotta vent. I was so excited to hear that Elliott is going to be on the Wed, May 16th results show - and while I was sorry for the VA concert being postponed - excited that he was asked to sing for AI. However, looking at his myspace, I noticed that my concert on Tuesday, May 15th was no longer listed so I went to THELOFTATL site and sure enough- the concert has been postponed - but there isn’t any date listed for the concert. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA - I am so bummed. :sad_tb: (I actually screamed when I found this out and had to explain to my hubby.)

After all, Lu and all her co-Virginians have other concerts in their area (and I might say - all the time) but this was my only chance to see the man. Sob. Super bummed. BTW - MJ - you can put his appearance on the results show on the idol appearance concert. It is a true happening. I imagine he has to rehearse on Tuesday - but boy - what a sad day that will be for me…. (Perhaps AI was afraid I’d miss the Tue night show to go see him… which of course I would, gladly!)

Oh - also - I was in a Captain D’s restaurant on Saturday and my hubby and I were playing our usual - what song is that and who did it - when lo and behold - “Just to Feel That Way” came on and I nearly shouted TAYLOR!

  4. 304 Bobbi May 7th, 2007 at 6:55 pm

The Akon thing, the club and concert was supposed to be an over 18 event….I think that makes the whole thing a little bit better, Akon isn’t some child molester, a perv maybe.

That may be true and I realize I’m old, but NO “concert” should include anything like that and I applaud Verizon for pulling their support.

  5. 305 NOLA May 7th, 2007 at 6:59 pm

    I applaud Verizon, as well!

  6. 306 Kat May 7th, 2007 at 7:00 pm

I definately don’t think it’s okay, but I just find it weird that one person is suing him out of all this.

If the girl had no idea that it was going to happen, I can see a lawsuit being filed by the parents. If it were my child, and she were really humiliated by this (as she apparently was), I’d sue for negligent infliction of emotional distress, or maybe even intentionanl infliction of emotional distress. It’s nice that he did it to other people, but when you’re pulling random people out of the audience and tricking them into a potentially humiliating experience, with no idea how they’ll react, you’re asking to get a lawsuit filed against your stupid a$$.

Here’s an interesting perspective on the music industry; it’s quite long, but worth the effort.

    http://www.freepress.net/news/22348

Most records, in fact, produce good money for corporations and little or none for the musicians. This is because the recording studios and engineers, art departments, advertising departments, A&R departments, legal departments, limo services, tour agencies, caterers, and distribution networks that swallow up the sales revenue for all but the big hits are owned by these very same corporations. Records that sell tens of thousands don’t “break even” not because no money comes in, but because all the money goes to keeping the corporation in the black. Revenue for the corporation starts coming in with the first CD sold, royalties for artists don’t kick in until every part of the bloated corporate beast is adequately fed.

  8. 308 JJ May 7th, 2007 at 7:46 pm

    I applaud Verizon, as well!

So do I, considering they’ve been paying my bills for the last 21 years.

  9. 309 Lara May 7th, 2007 at 8:22 pm

Pamster, someone emailed the Croshal group about Elliott’s Atlanta concert. He promised that it is being rescheduled and just to keep your eye on Elliott’s myspace for a new Atlanta date.

  10. 310 lg May 7th, 2007 at 8:26 pm

    Griz,
Thanks for the review. So good to hear of the diversity of the crowd, and how the stage got rushed during the Runaround part of the encore. How thrilling it must have been for Taylor to get that spontaneous surge. I would love to have seen that (and heard Georgia). And…that Otis t-shirt…I usually don’t get fangirly, but I hope the next time I catch a show, he’s attired in just jeans and a t-shirt (with the cool tennies of course), after having pumped iron for a span to build up those biceps a little. Now that’s a visual. :wink1_tb:

Very interesting that so many older artists are just reaching gold and platinum status (that outta tell TPTB something). Thanks for the info, Nevada.

Re AI 6 - though I’ve been pulling for Melinda, I hope that Lakiki finds her groove this week and blows the roof off the joint!

And, congrats to MJ on the MSNBC mention…which reminds me, don’t forget to cast your vote at the Bloggers Choice Awards. Just sign up, wait for confirmation email - easy as pie.

    http://www.bloggerschoiceawards.com/blogs/show/5061

Also, I found the EURweb site linked by LBB (re Akon) to be chock full of good music (and other) articles. Very resourceful. I didn’t know that T.I. had recently signed a promo deal with GM. Also enjoyed the weekly column by Deborah Cotton, “Notes from New Orleans”. A great read.

  11. 311 PamsterAtl May 7th, 2007 at 8:38 pm

Lara thanks for the encouraging word about rescheduled Atl concert. I was afraid since it hasn’t sold out that it would just be laid aside. I wonder if AI made him do it… I mean - he’s only singing on Wed — couldn’t it have been done on Wed…. sniff.

Also - there is still that mystery CUMULUS ATLANTA performance listed for May 11th that I can’t find at all. Cumulus in Atlanta owns two radio stations but neither of them have any listing for Elliott. Do you know?

  12. 312 Little Boy Blue May 7th, 2007 at 9:07 pm

So do I, considering they’ve been paying my bills for the last 21 years.

Can you show me how you manage to get them to pay your bills for you ? I on the other hand have been paying my bills to them for 21 years.

  13. 313 Paula May 7th, 2007 at 9:19 pm

LBB — Verizon has also paid my bills since 1979 (although two other companies were in there before VZ).

  14. 314 AFan May 7th, 2007 at 9:19 pm

would Taylor have been a flowerchild in 1967?

I’m sure he WAS one in 1967.

In regards to Blake and his talent….
I think the guy is probably one of the most creative people to be on Idol. Maybe there were other great songwriters that have been on the show but, IMO, Blake is the only one with enough balls to actually put himself out there and change songs for the better. Also, from what I’ve heard of the two Chris’ and some of Melinda’s OG stuff this season is by far the best when it comes to original material. I think all of them could possibly have the opportunity to really showcase themselves if they make an album. I think aside from possibly Daughtry no other Idol contestant/winner has had impressive enough songwriting skills to be featured on their album with less than a small writing credit here and there for writing lyrics and some melody or something.
I’m kind of crossing my fingers that Blake comes in any place but number one because his freedom might be stifled. But then again, I think Clive knows what happens when an artist performs material that doesn’t show a reflection of who they really are (ie Bo, Taylor, Kat)
Maybe they will be smarter this time and actually trust people.

  15. 315 Metta May 7th, 2007 at 9:36 pm

Your statement is inaccurate. Taylor exclusively wrote two of the songs on his cd–three on the Walmart version.

I also disagree that songwriting talent is the deciding factor re. what Clive and company allow on these cds. I think radio-ready/top 40 friendly songs would trump superior compositions.

I agree that Blake is probably one of the most creative to hit the Idol stage. I’ve only been watching since season 4, however. Not just in his arrangements, but also in his song selections (of course, anyone who would take on The Cure and do it well automatically gets points with me). He seems to have a knack at picking the right song for his voice/style. I think the hardest two themes for him were probably country night and IGB night, but he still pulled them off easily.

Daughtry got a lot of help writing his album. I think “Home” is completely original, though. I took a listen to his Absent Element stuff and didn’t really dig it. Then again, it’s not my style of rock.

Where can I listen to Melinda’s OG stuff?

My favorite Idol album is still JPL’s. I’m so glad MJ pimped it. I would never have bought it otherwise. I just love it.

I think Clive knows what happens when an artist performs material that doesn’t show a reflection of who they really are (ie Bo, Taylor, Kat)

I don’t think he knows it at either. Otherwise he would have figured it out already. It really seems like Clive labors under the delusion that he can turn anyone into a pop star. Personally, I think it’s just ego.

With the exception of Carrie, I agree with this. I think Bo Bice is exhibit A. By the way, does anyone have info on his 2nd cd? Is it in the works? Completed?

  20. 320 pj May 7th, 2007 at 10:08 pm

Bo’s album really disappointed. :( I still love Bo and hope he can put something out that better reflects him the second time around.

ETA: I knew nothing of the Idol machinations when I watched AI4 and I was happy when Clive told Bo they would make a very special record together. Special, indeed!

I totally agree. The guy has oodles of talent.

  22. 322 sexygirl May 7th, 2007 at 10:21 pm

I agree that Blake is probably one of the most creative to hit the Idol stage.

So beatboxing is creative. Blake creative style only stand out because of his competition which helps him a lot. But if he was part of Season 3-5, I don’t think he would appear as creative. I think his timing was just right.. I think as more and more people start bring their own unique style to the AI stage, they will be separated and considered creative. To me that is what AI should be all about. IMO, Season one and two was mostly straightfoward singing. Season 3-5 the more creative and unique singers was able to step out and sell their talent and grab the tv and in house audience’s attention.

I don’t personally think Blake is anymore creative than Fantasia was sitting on the floor singing Summertime. Bo singing one of his songs in acapella or Taylor’s dancing style. These were things that not only set these guys apart but stuck with the audience. I have to say, there isn’t anything Blake has done that has really wowed me but I did really like his performance last week. So maybe when it is all said and done, I can add that performance to the other creative moves of previous contestants that set them apart.

  23. 323 Kat May 7th, 2007 at 10:27 pm

Even though I’m not really a Blake fan, I do think he’s creative. I have a lot of respect for people who are innately musical and can arrange notes in different fashions, because I sure as hell can’t do it. (Full disclosure: I can sing. I can sing very well, actually. But I’m certainly no musician. Give me a piece and I’ll sing the notes, and I’ll connect and put emotion into it, but I lack the insight to be creative and put a different “spin” on a song the way Blake can.) I may not LIKE all of his arrangements, but he is obviously tremendously talented.

  24. 324 sexygirl May 7th, 2007 at 10:34 pm

I liked Bo’s cd.. I guess I just listened and did not have any preceived views of what he should have sounded like. I personally think there is this weird battle going on between the AI some fans and Clive inwhich I don’t really get. Maybe someone could explain it to me because I personally don’t get it.

On the topic of Akon..What he did in Trinidad is quite normal. I’m from the Carribeans, trust me, provocative dancing is as normal as brushing one’s teeth. But doing it with a underage girl isn’t..Also, being mindful that he isn’t a face in the crowd should have been a thought going through his mind when he choose to behave like that. The girl would not have been suing the guy next door if he had done that to her and video-taped it.

  25. 325 sexygirl May 7th, 2007 at 10:41 pm

I may not LIKE all of his arrangements, but he is obviously tremendously talented

I do believe Blake is creative and it stands out because his peers aren’t as creative. I just don’t think he is anymore creative than those before him. He is proving just like the previous Idols who brought their creative styles to the stage before him that singing is more than just standing infront of a microphone. I personally don’t think he was/is the best singer but his creative style sells him.

  26. 326 purplesmile May 7th, 2007 at 10:42 pm

sarahinwv: I would love to see Keanu in (or out ) of uniform !!

Reeves? He was in it on “A Walk In The Clouds.”

  27. 327 bruno May 7th, 2007 at 10:47 pm

ken barnes has the following on his blog:

    Idols work out their songs
Bill Keveney has a marvelously observed fly-on-the-wall story on the four remaining Idols, watching as they go through the rigors of song selection (and rejection) and rehearsal (plus a little time out for shopping and Ford commercial filming). Spoiler warning: it details the songs each Idol will sing Tuesday night.

but i can’t see any link to more info. is this just a tease to an article to appear in tomorrow’s paper?

    Hmm. Is that so?

Here’s a list of Taylor’s original material that he completely wrote himself. I’m sure there’s more, but here’s a start:

    In Your Time
    Somehow
    Soul Thing
    Son Of A Carpenter
    The Deal
    The Fall
    My Friend
    Hell Of A Day
    Heart and Soul
    Hold On To Your Love
    West Texas Sky
    Hello Lonely (never recorded)
    Limin’ (never recorded)

Griz, you forgot Limin’ it one of my favorite fun TH songs.

    Here’s the USA Today article.

    Warning - contains spoilers.

    RE: USA Today
I am surprised Blake kept the black hair. This should be an interesting week.

  34. 334 neonorange May 7th, 2007 at 11:21 pm

Griz, it’s my theme song right now that finals are over :clap_tb:

    “We’re Limin, In the Afternoon,
    Can’t get away too soon
    What else can I say
All you have to do, is dance the blues away…”

I don’t plan on doing anything for a couple of weeks!

  35. 335 purplesmile May 7th, 2007 at 11:28 pm

I love that song Jordin is doing: Woman In Love. But can she pull it off - the emotions required - seeing as she’s only seventeen and has probably never really been in love? Of course, she was amazing on I Who Have Nothing and that was just tragic.

  36. 336 beesims May 7th, 2007 at 11:28 pm

If the USA Today spoilers are correct, I am very psyched to see Blake do this song. It is an odd choice since it came out in 2001 and isn’t one of their better known hits. It has these 3 very distinct parts so it will be interesting to see the edited for idol version.

And they’re doing You Really Got Me, eh? Sanjaya lives. Heh.

  39. 339 Kat May 7th, 2007 at 11:40 pm

I never knew Taylor wrote Limin’! You learn something new every day.

Here is what I know as far as an update on Bo. As of this week he has 20 cities slated on his new accoustic tour. He will kickoff this Friday in Rochester, NY. Bo stated in his last Stickam chat that he is working on his second cd and has approximately 30 songs he is mulling over. He seems to be leaning more to the Southern Rock side of things rather that what Clive dealt him with The Real Thing. :smile2_ee:

  41. 341 Carla D May 8th, 2007 at 12:00 am

I read the spoilers and I’m a bit disappointed. Blake’s choice of “This is Where I Came In” is interesting but he always seems to find a song that works for him. I’m not so sure about his other choice. I’m a fan of the really early BeeGees and not that crazy about the disco era or their most recent stuff.

I assumed someone would sing “Run to Me”, “To Love Somebody” and “Run to Me” (3 of my favs) as these choices are predictable. However, I would have loved to have heard someone sing “Love So Right”, “I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You”, “Words”, or “I Started a Joke” (too bad Sanjaya is gone - this song would have worked perfectly for him!).

I’ve been a big fan of the BeeGees since my mom took me to see them in 1976 (I was 8). I took the death of Andy so hard - I think I wore black everyday for a year! LOL Andy was my first ever crush. It’s amazing how my musical tastes have changed over the years. However, I will never part with my BeeGees album collection, no matter how much I’m ridiculed by my boyfriend.

Bon Jovi last week…..Barry Gibb this week. I love it!

  42. 342 WVIdolFan May 8th, 2007 at 12:26 am

I adore Bo Bice. I would like to give Clive Davis a set of new teeth for what he did to Bo. I guess Bo had to give up the bus and his band when his contract was dropped. I do hope Nashville picks him up and lets him do this thing.

  43. 343 WVIdolFan May 8th, 2007 at 12:42 am

Good article by USA Today. The songs Blake is singing are two of my absolute BeeGee favs. The one Jordin and Barry are both singing IS my favorite. I dont know the song Kiki is singing. I have 3 of their cds but its not on either of those. Im glad Blake isnt doing Jive Talkin. Thats one of the few songs of theirs I never liked.

Wow! I hadn’t seen the video and just had assumed it was “just” sexy dancing… That is wayy overboard and violent looking the way he is tossing her about.
