Smart market move by Elliott Yamins camp get ” Free ” out thier on the radio waves to take advantage of his appearnce on AI but then do most artist do it also.
Did Elliott’s “Wait for You” finally disappear? Looks like David C. is doing okay.
Do you only keep track of Idol finalists, or for all contestants?
> Do you only keep track of Idol finalists, or for all contestants?
I try to track all Idol finalists and semi-finalists. I skip the auditioners because there are way too many of them. It takes a while to compile this list and I’ll only check for those that I know have songs out. It’s quite possible that I miss people and I appreciate it when others give me the heads up.
If there is interest in reports on a given auditioner, I could add them to the list.

It’s still getting a lot of spins (2397 last week), but it has moved to the recurrent charts. If a song charts on the official charts (e.g. Top 40), then if it goes below a certain threshold, it goes to recurrents. That’s why some songs that never chart hang around forever with their 1 or 2 spins while bit hits tend to disappear from these charts sooner.
Thanks, Kirsten. Even if it’s just a few spins, it’s good to see Ace’s name up there again!
I know that Sarah Burgess and Brooke Barrettsmith have been on and off of the charts lately, I’m not aware of any others on there but I could be wrong.
Since few non-finalists make the charts, it isn’t a lot more to add generally.
Hey, Ace is on the list! Go Ace!
Kristy Lee charted higher this week for Forever than Anyway. Kirsten, did she chart on Country?
Pecking through the charts to find them is what’s tough. I’ve looked through those media base charts, and compiling this data can be quite tedious.
Giving Kirsten the heads up about non-finalists that you know are charting would be helpful.
As always, thanks Kirsten for the great numbers! :).
Kirsten or Mj- I didn’t think that the current Idol’s Itune track were permitted to be played on the radio??? Is this correct or am I dreaming???
Exactly. I don’t even remember the names of all the auditioners. If anybody finds out about an Idol or auditioner with a new single (or hears them on the radio), let me know and I’ll watch out for them.
Brooke Barrettsmith:
“Farewell”: 654 Pop (656)
I could not find any spins for Sarah or her single “Dangerouz”. She doesn’t even show up in the QuickCut search page.
Kristy did not chart on Country this week. She did get two spins (for 316) for “Anyway” on the Monitored Country chart last week.
They’ve always been allowed to play Idol songs on the radio during the competition. I think that Idol even makes them available to them (I know they put together video packages for the entertainment and talk shows). Typically something like “Did you hear so-and-so on Idol last night? It was terrible/terrific. Let’s give a listen”. Free promo for the show.
Kirsten- AH HA. But can they, the songs, be put into regular rotation at a radio station???
ETA- Sorry kirsten…but I am a total radio-tard when it comes to this stuff. Thank goodnes for you and MJ. Else I would be lost. :)
Certainly. Radio stations can pretty much play what they want (so long as the follow the FCC regulations). Elliott is a prime example. Some of the Richmond stations had his performance songs (e.g. “A Song for You”) on regular rotation for months (I believe that they now play the tracks from his CD).
Labels will try to “encourage” the stations to play the latest singles from their artists, but the radio stations aren’t bound by that.
Thanks Kirsten. Mariah’s Forever has been on the R&B chart at 10 & 15 for the past 2 days on iTunes. Higher than the other covered Mariah songs!
