Climbing, yay! If I’m reading the charts right, DC is adding new stations at an ever faster clip. Also, if I’m reading it right, at this point he just needs a lot more spins. Looks as if he’ll get them. In other charts news, it was still #1 on Amazon as of yesterday, and now I’m watching to see if it regains ground on iTunes.

I never hated TOML, but it wasn’t one of my favs of his, either. Then yesterday I made the “mistake” of listening to it five times in a row and now I flove it. I guess that is also the magic of “spins” on the radio.

Today, TWIK is my ear-worm. Woke up hearing it, am hearing it now. Are there other singers in the world? You wouldn’t know it from my itunes playlist and my earworm playlist, lol.

Wow, I think Magic Rainbow might be heading towards the top 10 on the AC and Hot AC charts and it should at least break the top 40 on the pop charts, which is pretty good for a coronation song. (Or maybe I’m just being clueless and all of the coronation songs have had similar amounts of radio play?)

It RCA gives him the same level of promotion when he finally has a real song, he should be in good shape! The big MediaBase ads and decent-sized push to radio does make me wonder if they plan to try to make TOML survive long enough to follow it up with something over the summer, just to keep his momentum going.

LOL, spritely I’ve reached an all-time low. I actually downloaded TOML as a ringtone.

I’m going to have to youtube Paula’s song, I have yet to hear it.

AInoob for the win! Probably the only thing that saves me from doing that is that I don’t know how. DON’T TELL ME. :)

    Fly magic rainbow, fly!!!

LOL, spritely I’ve reached an all-time low. I actually downloaded TOML as a ringtone.

I got an iPhone on Friday and it was the first thing I did lol. I have no shame in admitting my magic rainbow love.

Speaking of TOML, did anyone see the new Mediabase ad for it? You can see ithere. Pay special attention the writing up under the pic.

My ringtone did pimp the song though. I was at the grocery store Saturday morning and it went off. This young woman in the bread aisle standing next to me said “what song is that?”, I told her TOML by David Cook. She said she had just caught the tail-end of it on the car radio and liked it, but hadn’t hear the dj announce who it was.

Too funny! Have you checked out the new ad on mj’s front page? There are truly evil people in the world. :devil_tb:

Oops, it’s not there now. It was an ad for David Cook ringtones, lol. Mj, is that you being mischievous, or is it just synchronicity? :)

I agree, cheese, I think TOML is definitely heading toward Top 10 on HAC and certainly on AC, too. I’m thinking Top 5 on AC, actually. It could get similar airplay on AC like Daughtry’s “Home” had. Sorry to bring up the Daughtry comparison, but it has a similar vibe to it, and the AC PD’s definitely embraced the “rawker” Daughtry. And the AC stigma hasn’t seemed to hurt Daughtry one little bit.

    • THE SPIN — “American Idol” victor David Cook posts the highest debut in Hot AC history for a career-opening single by a solo male, as “The Time of My Life” blasts in at No. 31.

Go Cookie! Billboard had a similar blurb the other day but I like seeing it again. Where do we think he’ll be on that chart this coming week? He seems be to getting his strongest airplay there.

The ads are random…Google supplies them based on the content of the blog posts. :).

    Okay, that’s pretty funny, too.

I love seeing that again, too.

Go Cookie! Breaking records wherever he goes!
I’ll never hear TOML on radio where I live, but it’s so good to know it’s doing well. Hopefully we’ll get a new single soon enough, though. I do think something less “rainbowy” needs to come out before the end of the tour.

  14. 14 sumidol Jun 9th, 2008 at 1:30 pm

Oh, I finally heard TOML on the radio on my way to work last week (AZ)

  15. 15 AZIdolFan Jun 9th, 2008 at 1:41 pm

i don’t listen to “regular” radio. we have xfm radio. and they play TOML on flight 26. :)

  16. 16 movin2thabeet Jun 9th, 2008 at 1:43 pm

It will be interesting to see how far TOML goes on the charts. You can’t really compare it to Daughtry’s success since their hits came out of a full physical CD. That’s why David wants to get a CD out as soon as possible. His challenge is to come out with a CD quickly without compromising on the quality - and somehow finding the time during the tour to write and get in the studio. And you think he’s looked tired in the past! But I imagine it will be incredibly energizing to get to work with top producers with top resources in the studio and, of course, performing across the country and meeting all of us!

Will TOML make Ryan Seacrest’s American Top 40 (HAC version) next weekend? That would be pretty cool. Has any other coronation song made it to a countdown radio show? Not saying this to rub other winner’s nose in it, just don’t have a clue–never paid any attention.

Is a cobbled-together video for TOML too far behind? *dreams*

  18. 18 Kirsten Jun 9th, 2008 at 3:34 pm

Has any other coronation song made it to a countdown radio show?

Almost every radio station has a countdown show. With the 10 zillion formats out there, they probably have all made some sort of countdown show. LOL. Countdown shows can rely on anything from BB numbers to Mediabase numbers to their own polling to requests. You name it. It’s a big varied world out there.

Kelly’s “A Moment Like This” was a huge hit. It was #1 on the Hot 100 for two weeks running. It also peaked at number 4 on the Top 40 Mainstream and the Hot Adult Contemporary Track. It got to 8 on the Top 40 Tracks, 27 on the Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks and 58 on the Hot Country Singles and Tracks. There are a lot of Billboard charts out there and they keep changing them up.

AMLT is probably the one to beat when it comes to airplay.

BTW, according to wiki, Seacrest’s show relies on request data from Mediabase and affiliates carrying the series. They don’t make songs go to recurrent, so songs can stay on the chart longer. There are two versions of this show. One for CHR/Pop stations and one for Hot AC stations.

I do a weekly survey on RateTheMusic.com for Adult Comtemporary - TOML was on the survey on Friday and I looked today and it is #1 !!!!!!!

I have to say I love it now. Very addictive.

AMLT is probably the one to beat when it comes to airplay.

Agreed. Although, ToML got out much faster to the rural masses. In my little corner of BFE, it took months before I heard AMLT on the radio.
Now, if only he’d do the cookified version of ToML on Leno Thursday…

  21. 21 Jenn_AI Fan Jun 10th, 2008 at 12:12 am

I’m fascinated by the facts that ToML has been getting any play on alternative stations (not a lot of play, but given that that song really is not alternative, I’m surprised), and that ABMB and Billie Jean are still getting some airplay a couple of weeks after the competition ended and after the songs were pulled from sale.
