    Thanks for the chart information.

    Kelly Clarkson:
“Because of You (w Reba McEntire)”: 14 Country (19)

Hmmm, looks like the new version of Kelly “can’t write hits” Clarkson’s song “Because of You” with Reba is doing pretty well in a whole new genre.

    :)

Katharine always gets the most random spins I swear

As I read the charts at Mediabase.com, I noticed that Kimberley Locke’s “Change” is up to number 6, from last week’s number 10. Do you use a different chart?

And yet I just found a third rating on the AC Chart:

    10 9 KIMBERLEY LOCKE Change 1352 1210 142 6.030

I am just glad it is getting more airplay. It is honestly a great CD. I am hoping more people buy it…it has so many possible hits on it. Much better than her first. As long as it keeps going higher is all that matters!

There are two different charts for mediabase

There are lots of different options for the Mediabase charts.

For instance, the chart that sammy posted is for all of the AC stations monitored by Mediabase (format=a1M). I look at the published charts (format=a1R) which is a subset of the stations monitored. Mediabase does not monitor all stations, so I think that the published charts are meant to better reflect all the stations (more representative). I use the published charts because that’s what the media/stations will use if they print Mediabase chart positions or do a countdown show (plus, I think it’s closest to the ones that are used for the BB charts).

I’m not sure what chart options the one you saw on Mediabase is using. Sorry.

But, as you later post, the good news is that Kim is getting more airplay regardless of the chart options and that’s what is important. More spins generally means more listeners which will hopefully translate into more buyers.

Kirsten - so the chart that is used for Billboard rankings is yet a third list? A combo of the published and monitored charts that are listed by MediaBase?

Which list does “Radio and Records” use? Sorry for all the questions, but confusion strikes! :)

Yes, Billboard uses a third list. It is produced by the Neilsen Broadcast Data System (BDS) which is a rival radio monitoring company to Mediabase. There is some overlap (e.g. both companies monitor KOST), but not all of the stations are the same.

Here is a link to BDS: http://www.bdsonline.com/index.html It contains more information about its servic and a list of stations which they monitor. Here is the station list for Mediabase: http://www.allaccess.com/mail/eblasts/mediabase/Mediabase_Monitored_Panels_080606.doc

Mediabase is more open with their charts and publishes a rolling 7 day chart so it’s easier to track airplay with them. BDS doesn’t publish it’s Monday-Sunday chart until Wednesday.

Which list does “Radio and Records” use? Sorry for all the questions, but confusion strikes! :)

“Radio and Records” used to use the Mediabase charts, but switched to the BDS charts after it was purchased by Billboard.

Thank you Kirsten! Very informative - appreciate the information!

I’m still not getting the charts and whatnot. Didn’t “Heaven Knows” hit the Hot AC chart at #27? Shouldn’t that be reflected here?

Billboard thinks everything is HOT. “Hot 100″, “Hot AC”, “Hot Ringtones”, “Hot Digital Songs”, “Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks”, “Hot Modern Rock Tracks”, “Hot Gospel”, etc.

    Translation:

BB Hot AC = Mediabase AC
BB Hot Adult Top 40 = Mediabase Hot AC

Thanks, Kirsten! When I started watching AI, I was told there’d be no math!! :wink_wp:

If you check the monitored stations, Kimberley Locke’s “Change” has now moved into number 5. It is up 212 spins, the most of any song!!!! I know that they are planning on pushing the song to the Hot AC next week. It already is on the “jump” list at mediabase for Hot AC! I am looking forward to see how this single does in that format. Has anyone heard the remixed version? It was number one on the Dance chart on Billboard. I like it!
