Mariah to duet with late Marvin Gaye on “Idol Gives Back” Mariah will be performing “What’s Going On” on the “Idol Gives Back” special as a duet with the late Marvin Gaye via a video performance. The show will air on April 9th on Fox.

To me, singing with dead people is disrespectful. The dead person did not agree to do this. It’s like you are turning them into a puppet.
It was kind of interesting when Natalie Cole did it with her father because it showed off new technology and she actually had met the person in question.
IGB did it last year with Elvis and the Grammies did it this year with Frank Sinatra, so this gimmick isn’t even a novelty. IGB should not go back to that well again (but since Elvis/Celine won them their only Emmy ever, I can see why they might be tempted). I would far rather see Mariah duet with Simon or Ryan or MC Skat Kat.

Not creepy at all if done well and I thought the Celine/Elvis duet was done very well. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Just read an article ( sorry I don’t have the link) that was about the conference call with Nigel today re: IGB. He said they could not get the rights to the Marvin Gaye song, so the duet is off.
God answers prayer, lol. Just keeping with the evangelical feel of tonight. Glad if that is true. It could have been tragically, tragic.
