Check out Team Plaid for last night’s video of the Final 3–Blake Lewis, Jordin Sparks and Melinda Doolittle–on last night’s Tonight Show With Jay Leno. After Jay interviewed the kids Taylor Hicks performed what will probably be his next single, “Heaven Knows.”
The online bookmakers are predicting that Melinda Doolittle will be eliminated this week, with Jordin Sparks eventually taking it all. Blake Lewis, though, will get a little help from the folks at Vote For The Worst. He’s been chosen as their candidate after Lakisha Jones (who only lasted a week as their pick) was voted off last week.
The latest bit of PR around Jordin Sparks, Season 6 heir apparent, is that she initially auditioned in LA, but did not get past the 1st round. She went back home and auditioned successfully for Arizona Idol and a chance to audition in Seattle, where she was advanced to Hollywood by the judges. She has also auditioned for American Juniors (AJ was a 19E production–it’s possible she came to the attention of Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick back then) and Star Search. She auditioned for America’s Most Talented Kids twice–winning the first time.
More homecoming news. Chris Richardson’s hometown, Chesapeake, VA threw him a party at his old high school last night and Phil Stacey went home to Jacksonville, FL where he’s making the media rounds and greeting fans.

• Jordin Sparks: Simon Cowell picked “Wishing On A Star” by funk band Rose Royce.
• Blake Lewis: Paula Abdul singled out the Police’s classic “Roxanne” for the beat boxer. The pick was announced via fax during a rally while Lewis visited his hometown, Bothell, Wash.
• Melinda Doolittle: Randy Jackson selected Whitney Houston’s jazzy number, “I Believe In You and Me.” The choice was revealed via letter from Jackson while Doolittle was home in Tennessee.
And here’s a bonus: according to the Arizona Republic, while Sparks was home in Glendale, Ariz., she told her classmates what she picked for herself. If the report is true, expect a reprise of her well-received “I Who Have Nothing.”

Thanks anyway though, :).
Thanks for linking the videos MJ. I had forgotten all about the Leno thing and I was disappointed I missed both this year’s contestants and Taylor.
I do hope that Taylor gets to do Heaven Knows on the finale. I really dig that song.
Question from a big Tay Fan - Leno said Taylor’s CD has sold 1 million copies. Wishful thinking? Anyone know where I can get the latest sales numbers?
Thanks!
Sales to retailers, yes (certified Platinum). To the record-buying public, not yet.
Me too, Spense! It’s one of my favorites. I want him to sing something up tempo on the Finale.
Certified Platinum by the RIAA but SoundScan only has 670,000 in sales.
SoundScan is not Actual sales, there are MANY Big sellers that don’t report to SounScan, CosCo, BJ’s Wholesale, Sams Club are among the Big Retailers there are also the record clubs and Thousands of small stores and online sellers that don’t report.
Thanks for your help Friend and MaryS - MJ’s bloggers are the best.
I thought the top 3 did very well on Leno last night, especially Blake.
Seeing Taylor perform on Jay Leno’s Show reminded me of what a great talent he is. There just wasn’t anyone like him with the charisma and energy this season!
