More News on The Next Great American Band

There’s more news on the “The Next Great American Band,” the new FOX show musical reality show from the producers of American Idol:

Sheila E. (The Glamorous Life) and the Goo Goo Dolls’ John Rzeznik will headline the judging panel on The Next Great American Band, a new music competition from the producers of American Idol.

The rest of the field tilts Down Under: Australian Idol’s Ian “Dicko” Dickson is the third judge, and New Zealand Idol’s Dominic Bowden hosts the Fox series. It premieres Oct. 19.

That’s Friday, October 19. The premise of the show is like Idol, only with bands instead of individual singers.  I’ll be posting recaps of the show right here.

Last week, the judges took part in a Las Vegas round in which they narrowed the field. “The experience was more like boot camp,” says Sheila E., who has been musical director for Prince, Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez. “We actually heard a lot of great bands, (and) we heard a few people we could have gonged.

Anybody got any spoilers? Heh.

Popped in here to see this from you, MJ. Very cool. I plan to watch this one and I am delighted to read you will be posting info about it.

The judging panel seems qualified, which is good.

I think Johnny Rzeznik will be a great judge. He seems pretty intelligent, and he displays a dry sense of humor on all those VH1 “I Love The (insert decade here)” shows.

I wonder if they’ll have Jordin and/or Blake on as guest performers at some point to promote their albums.

This sounds exciting for we’ll get to hear some great new music in a battle of the bands. Sheila E should make a fantastic judge. I hope they only put thru the ones with the most talent and not those with shock value only *prolly wishful thinking*. At the very least, this sounds like a perfect show to ramp up a very boring Fri. nite programming schedule. So glad you’ll be covering it, MJ!

The semi-finalists listed on Wikipedia (a site noted for its accuracy) are a pretty eclectic bunch judging from their myspace profiles and online music samples. Even though I see a train wreck coming, I can’t wait for your recaps MJ.

I’m hoping it’s shown here, sounds as though it’ll either be brilliant or a trainwreck.

Whichever it will be compelling for me!
