Everybody got to perform, the last two standing are Melissa Lawson and Third Town. Melissa, the girl who blew everyone away last week, and the cornier than corny Third Town, who barely made the cut in the first place are the last two? So gee, who do you think is going to be eliminated?
Third Town is Eliminated - VIDEO -When it was just them and Melissa, they must have known the gig was up.
Next week is “Pop Week” - The Contestants pick their favorite Pop songs.

I really like Ashlee Hewitt. I also like the way the judges don’t act like they’re bored to be there. Yeah, I’m talking to you, Simon Cowell. At least we know they’re alive, and, listening to the performers.John Rich wants Justin gone as much as I do. He is sooooo bad.

Country music isn’t like it used to be. It’s mainly cross over now, and, I’m not sure I’m liking it. Guess song choice matters here too. I didn’t like Melissa this week, but, she can sing. That last group - blah!
Like I said i know my country. I am into it big time. This isnt even pop country. And aretha franklin and john mayer song should not even be allowed to be song on this show.
I for the life of me cant think why they gave the save a horse ride a cowboy dood so much praise. That is a great song and he did not sing or perform it well. There has been no good performances tonight.
The closest guy to even being remotly country was gabe. Pearl heart was fine they are just so young and they need to learn to perform. Shawn Mayer was pretty good also

This show comes off as more Hollywood than Nashville, and that’s not great.

Apparently they are trying to compete with Idol by letting the contestants sing pop songs. Not a successful strategy in my opinion.
I thought, in general, the performance were very shaky. I did like Gabe though. Love his voice and I look forward to hearing what he does next.

Well, that was a trainwreck. LOL. I had a busy night and just watched all the way through. I was ready to disagree with MJ about Ashlee’s “Ring of Fire” because it was pretty lame (I love me some Cash), but then I saw the rest of the show. OMG. Half of these peeps aren’t even interested in country music and the rest are just so green or have no charisma. Great casting. Sigh.
This is my first season so I can’t compare to past seasons. But, having said that, I want my country to be country. I don’t mind a little pop crossover. But John Mayer’s music is NOT country. Boy, that was bad.
Gabe is my favorite. Ashley is second, mostly because I think she has a distinct sound. The rest are just karaoke.
John Rich and his sexual innuendo??? That was just so inappropriate. I’m giving it one more week, too. I need to choose between this and SYTYCD and, at this point, SYTYCD is winning by a landslide.
Pop week? What the heck do they think they have been singing? Anyone listening to this and thinking they are hearing country music is sadly mistaken. I absolutely love the show, and know it has been trying its best to be a good show… It has come a long way, and has really changed.
This year there is MORE talent then ever, younger, and brighter people that actually might go somewhere unlike the latest Nashville Star winners

Tommy Stanley, was good the first time, but may be loosing his spark because he is getting a little to confident, But I still love him, and will vote for him, a second chance might help him!!
Gabe, is sweet, kind, innocently humble, and everything else good, he could be something simple, and pure… He is shy seeming, but still seems to win my heart, and votes!

I’m going to call Ashlee Hewitt the winner, with Gabe Garcia the runnerup. Hopefully, she can write songs, because they require the contestants to write a song while on NS. She is young, pretty, and a much better singer than Taylor Swift. Carrie took over country, and, came off of AI, so, they need one of their own blondies to win.

Wow — it really was an awful show last night, wasn’t it?
John Rich is a total blow hard. Sexually charged comments? Rude statements? Simon has never been as nasty as Rich was when talking to that last group. They knew their number was up, that ’so-n-so from Alabama changed the channel’ comment was totally unnecessary. (Please, they’d changed the channel five contestants ago! Think after Jason?)
I’ve enjoyed Big & Rich’s music in the past, but haven’t really encouraged my sons to actually see anything by them (i.e., videos, etc.,) as I question their judgement in as far as woman and ‘little people’ are concerned. They wear their male chauvinism on their sleeves (in my opinion, of course). Objectifying women isn’t just for rappers.
We’ve watched this show for a long time — and this year? Such a disappointment. There had to have been more talented people than this.
Now that Nashville Star is airing on NBC did they go mainstream? The past
seasons’ contestants have been more mature, seasoned Country singers in
the true sense of the word. The Country element is heard in a few
of these singers (Ashlee, Gabe) but the songs and singers seem more
mainstream.
And next week is Pop Week? Have they done that in past seasons?
I am very impressed with Jewel. I always saw her as a shy quiet singer
but she is really telling them what she thinks and giving good comments.
Am I the only one who can’t stand Ashlee Hewitt? She sounds to me like she’s trying to be country’s answer to Amy Winehouse. I did like Allison though but I’m not sure if that’s enough to keep watching.

I was not crazy about last night’s show at all. I don’t really care for any of the groups. For the guys I think Gabe has a good voice and Tommy can work the stage, perhaps if we could merge them together they would make a good country artist. For the ladies, I like Ashlee Hewitt, I think Shawn Mayer has potential and I hope Melissa Lawson does better next week because I wasn’t feeling her at all last night. I hated Alyson Gilbert’s version of EBYT and I’m still not sold on her voice. Justin is pretty, but its time for him to go, he sucked. Though I have to say, John Rich was a jerk when he said that he (Justin) somehow snuck in. They have no one to blame but themselves for this lineup. Live or die by your decisions, John, man up and admit you let a shitty singer through to the finals.
ETA: What’s with the Taylor Swift pimping? WTF, does John Rich produce her?!

Really liked Ashlee on ‘Bubbly’ but not so much on ‘Ring of Fire.’ But I still thnk she is the one to beat as she comes out of her shell.
Gabe’s good, but I find his voice is too thin.
Melissa can sing, but she is clearly not a country singer.
And I’ll be hanging with Pearl Heart because of that great harmony and I sense a real story there as the lead singer strives to step forward.

I’ve never watched this show before, but I thought I’d try since so many MJ peeps seem to like it. Wow - that was bad. I only watched about 15 minutes. But, I do like to read all of your funny comments, so I’ve decided I’m just going to watch some of the videos that MJ posts.
I’m sure your comments will tell me which ones to watch because they’re good, and which one to watch because they’re laughably bad. For instance this:
would make me click on that boy’s video right away as I will know that hilarity will ensue.
But I am curious about one thing - if they want to find a country music star, why don’t they actually sing country music? And, next week is Pop music week? Because I thought maybe that was last night.
I’m pulling for them, too. I’d really like to see them stick around to watch them grow. I see great potential.
I have a problem with that as well. I don’t mind a pop week but I think they should stick to the country genre otherwise. If they do rearrange a pop song, I still want it to sound country.
Gabe has the best and most authentic vocals in the competition. I really like his voice. I also like Ashley. Her looks remind me of LeAnn Rhimes.
Pearl Heart sing old lady songs and are almost TOO harmonious. They remind me of a County Fair stage act.
I love Country music and was disappointed that many chose to sing pop or R&B songs. Come on, “Natural Woman”, “Delilah”,

No. You’re not. Her vocal sounds really affected - like she’s trying to hard to sound “authentic” and it. drives. me. NUTS! She may have vocal talent in there somewhere, but I just can’t get past that to recognize it.
IF I keep watching, I’ll be pulling for Alyson and Pearl Heart, probably. Maybe Gabe or Coffey. All of these contestants need LOTS of work, imo. Which may make for some great stories at the end of the season, but makes watching right now torture for me.
