New Melinda Doolittle Song - It’s Your Love - Sneak Peek!

Tyler Graves hosts the Moments With Melinda Show on blog talk radio, and he interviewed Melinda Doolittle Sunday afternoon. Most exciting, he world-premiered her upcoming single “It’s Your Love” to be released to radio in October. Listen to a short snip right here!

Isn’t that fabulously retro? Hearing the song here in mono reminds me of listening to the great Top 40 stations in the 60’s.

Melinda tells an interesting story about how she came to sing “It’s Your Love.” The song was originally part of the Motown catalog, but when Motown split up, half the catalog went with Berry Gordy’s partner and became what’s known as the Shrine catalog. Melinda’s label, Hi-Fi Recordings, now own the catalog. And apparently, there more from where that came from…

She says her favorite song on the album is an old Johnny Mathis song called “The Best of Everything”.

You can listen to Melinda talk about recording her album and other topics in Tyler’s interview. Listen HERE.

On a side note: Melinda says LaKisha Jones wedding was amazing, and that it was great to see Sanjaya Malakar, Haley Scarnato and Gina Glocksen again.

Wow! The girl is really feelin’ the song. I took a chill twice during the snippet. Good stuff.

I wish Melinda would team up with Elliott Yamin and record a killer duet of an old remake.

I love it and I love her! I’m glad of the route she’s taking, being true to herself.

That would be awesome! They’re both my favourite non-winners :P
All the best for Melinda! :)

Wow, Melinda recording the lost Motown catalog! How cool is that :)

I was in Nashville for the Labor Day Summer J.A.M. concert and Melinda sang It’s Your Love along with Dust My Broom and The Best of Everything and other songs from her Idol days. It was so goooood to have some live (not YouTube) Melinda but it was like trying to eat 1 potato chip or 1 peanut! LOL Our Girl has worked steadily since the Idol Tour, winning new fans, growing as an artist and as a person. This collaboration with some of the gold that built Motown into a brand is perfect for our self-proclaimed “old school, Motown-girl at heart.” It’s Your Love is proof-positive that Melinda will enjoy a long, successful career. Sorry, naysayers, this W-O-M-A-N is here to stay!

One of the best ever singers on Idol IMO. What a voice on her! I’m still pissed she didn’t make it to the finale.

That was just all kindsa awesome. She has a voice for the ages. She is kicking all kinds of ass and taking names! I love it. This just may be a match made in heaven. Go Mindydo!

wow!! I think I’m going to have to buy this. I love me some retro Motown and I love me some Melinder.

She is just all kinds of awesome. I can’t wait for this to drop. The Motown sound really takes me back………………

It’s one thing when a drugged out Brit like Amy Winehouse sets modern lyrics against such vintage beats but I’m just not sure that Melinda will have much success with this retro sound. I’m sure I’ll get slammed that some artists don’t care about huge commercial success as long as they stay true to themselves and other people will say so much of what is on the radio is garbage. But surely there’s some middle ground though? Great soul singers like Aretha, Tina, Gladys and Dionne managed to update their sound and stay relevant to a moden audience. Who knows? Maybe this will really take off? Of course, it’s important to record music that you feel passionate about so congrats to Melinda and fans for this effort.

^I kind of agree. The pipes are there but something “new” and “current” is missing. It’s too academic somehow. Anyway, I think this is a great project and her fans must be thrilled. While this may not work on US radio, I suggest Melinda follow Elliott’s example and release it in Japan. Lots of love for old school R& B there.

I suggest Melinda follow Elliott’s example and release it in Japan.

Maybe she’ll heed your suggestion, although Elliott did fine in the US. Seems to me that Melinda would be happy either way.

    Isn’t that fabulously retro?

This old-school sound is right up her alley, although I admit that I can’t wait to hear a little jazz as well. :Fingers crossed: MindyDoo ROCKS - retrostyle!

I really, really love this song. It has a lush and rich sound–not the “tinny” sound of some of the newer music. The violins and horns add an exquisite feel to Melinda’s silky voice. I believe that there is a great audience for this kind of music here in the US. But, of course, I hope it’s released world-wide!! Great job, Melinda!

Who knows? Maybe this will really take off?

Probably not. I can’t imagine a radio station that would play something this faithfully retro.

    I still love it, however.

    “fabulously retro”
    “not new and current”
    “faithfully retro”
    “old school sound”

    Works for me. LOVE IT!

Melinda sounds fabulous. I’m glad she’s sticking to what she does best, instead of pursuing a more “modern” style.
