New Music – Ani DiFranco, Vampire Weekend, The Ting Tings

Ani DiFranco – iTunes Originals – This week’s extremely late New Music post features David Cook’s favorite queer artist, Ani DiFranco. What a coincidence, David mentions her in an interview, the week she releases an iTunes exclusive album! The iTunes album is a greatest hits of sorts, featuring songs from throughout her career, some of them recorded live just for iTunes. The release also features interviews that introduce each track. I listened to Ani through the 9o’s, but stopped following her music, and God knows why, because her recent stuff is really good!   I’ve got a track from the album, “32 Flavors”, that appeared on her 1995 album Not a Pretty Girl. It’s one of my favorites iTunes

Vampire Weekend – The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance – Thanks to the peeps who turned me on to Vampire Weekend. Actually, I’d heard of them before, but a shoutout on the blog reminded me to check them out a little more carefully.   I like! They remind me a little of my beloved English Beat from back in the day. They’re new single, available on iTunes, comes in two flavors, one with strings and the other a remix with synthesizers.   I like both!   Listen to the former below, and watch them perform the song (with strings in tow) on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, after the jump. iTunes

The Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name – My new favorite song is not new.  ”That’s Not My Name” is from the album, We Started Nothing.   The first single, “Shut Up and Let Me Go”, has been playing on my iPod for awhile now. The British duo concocts music that’s a cool mixture of techno, alternative and pop.   I love when the guitars kick in at the end of the song. And I love to sing along in my car, even though it isn’t true. I mean, it is my name. Oh well. Heh. Listen below! iTunes

I love the Ting Tings (saw them in Minneapolis a few months ago.) Shut Up & Let me Go, That’s Not My Name and Great DJ are my faves.

    Check out Brett Dennen:

Hi all, long time lurker first time poster.
I’m delurking because MJ mentioned Vampire Weekend, one of my favorite bands. Not sure if you have heard the whole CD but I absolutely love it. I’m very interested in hearing the remix version. I think I may purchase that.

I don’t know if people here are into reggae, but I’ve been listening to it lately.
Nothing new (or at least released this year) but still some good stuff.
One of the bands I’ve been listening to the most is a brazilian one, called Natiruts, reggae with a bit of inlfuence of brazilian music, I think it’s nice: O Carcarà ¡ e a Rosa
    Quero Ser Feliz Tambà ©m

    And Gentleman:
    Send a Prayer
    Intoxication

MJ, really like that Vampire Weekend song. First time I heard about that band.

Two songs I’m obsessing over this week:

“Never Miss A Beat” by the Kaiser Chiefs

“Supermassive Black Hole” by Muse (thanks to an amazing scene in Twilight ;D)

I like this mash-up of The Ting Tings “Shut Up & Let Me Go” and Franz Ferdinand’s “Take Me Out.”

I’m just finishing up listening to The Killers new album and really loving a lot of what I’m hearing.

I liked Vampire Weekend and will be listening to more of their stuff. I’d been meaning to check them out for quite some time, so thanks MJ for posting the vid! Now, I must know: am I the only one here who cannot stop listening to Chinese Democracy? (The album, not the song – that song is actually my least fave on what is my new favorite album). Someone please tell me I am not alone!

I actually didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t download any new music this week, except Nickelback but I know they are not very popular in here ;) so I Hill skip that oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Instead I have being listening to an old findingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ most of the music I listen I have found out by Tv programs, House MD or Scrubs have amazing soundtracksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ so at the beginning of the year I watched this Japanese animated program called Beck or Mongolian Chop Squad, review of the series here, about a group of Japanese kids trying to made it in to the rock world in USà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ the series is really good, one of the best I have ever seem, and the soundtrack is really interesting, a little rap, a little rock and some coversà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦one of my favorites covers that is:

Beck I Got a Feeling cover from The Beatles

    And these songs:

    Moon on The Water

    Slip Out

Sadly you can only buy the soundtrack in Amazon the album is Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad , you can also check Beat Crusaders who are the band behind some of the songs in the albumà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

So there it is, I watch Anime, IÂ ´m a nerd, and IÂ ´m no longer have any secrets to the `people in this blog

Coldplay’s new EP of course, I’d give it a 5 stars if Jay-Z weren’t in it. I don’t mind him, but it doesn’t work for that song.

I don’t have much time for new music recently, so just checke my brother’s playlist. His comment on Killers’ new album: lame. I won’t bother listening to it then. And another one cracks me up. Blazing Eternity – A World to Drown In, “way out of key”.

And I saw a self-released album called Selective Memory reminded me of the song Selective Memory by Eels.

LOL, MJ- I like the Ting Tings, and my kids love them, but after a song or 2 I feel like I’ve been transported back to 1983!

I finally broke down and bought honeyhoney’s whole album this week. I’m glad I did- it sounds much better than the stream from Lala did. It’s a fun, eclectic album, with some jazz, some folk, and some bluegrass, all mixed up together.

I’ve also been listening to Black Gold’s EP more. Their song Breakdown was played in the background on Dirty Sexy money last week. The chorus of David Cook’s song My Last Request kind of reminds me of their song Detroit, and of Carolina Liar’s song Last Night. Detroit’s chorus also seriously reminds me of something from the 80’s, but for some reason I can’t specifically figure out what, and it’s driving me crazy!

I love Vampire Weekend! Another fun album!

and I discovered the band Alter Bridge, this video is so touching to me, oh what people do to themselves, it is sad and I hope all these people get better. First year, 3rd runner up from AI is in this group.

I know it’s kinda late to comment but thanks for the rec. I’ll try to listen to Vampire Weekend; I like Ani Difranco. Anyway, I’m listening to Adele. I’m in love with Chasing Pavement’s video.
