I think it could mean he has a good start on the music and lyrics for 7 new songs, or has a total of 7 songs under serious consideration for the album, which might include songs from his previous work. If he really wrote/co-wrote 7 new songs since May 21 even with all his ongoing appearances and interviews, I'm impressed. He does make it sound like he's pretty intimately involved in the writing process. (Would he say "we're in the writing process" if he is just listening to submitted songs from random songwriters?) I'm looking forward to seeing how many writes/co-writes he ends up with, if only because he seems to be a fairly prolific writer himself and he's not too shabby at it.
