OK, so I'm home, sick, and have lots of time on my hands. Here are some ideas for the kids.

Danny Gokey (1980) - Against The Wind, Bob Seger or You May Be Right, Billy Joel: I think Gokey will go upbeat this week.

Adam Lambert (1982) - Working For The Weekend, Loverboy or Edge Of Seventeen, Stevie Nicks or Open Arms, Journey: I'd love to hear Adam sing those Steve Perry notes, and he'd wear the Loverboy red leather pants well... but I'm betting he'll do something unique, whatever he chooses!

Lil Rounds (1984) - What's Love Got To Do With It, Tina Turner or Love Is A Battlefield, Pat Benatar: I hope Lil steps out of the box and rocks it up a bit with the Benetar.

Kris Allen (1985) - Walking On Sunshine, Katrina and The Waves: I can see him having a blast with this and his guitar.

Matt Giraud (1985) - Things Can Only Get Better, Howard Jones: Love Howard Jones, and Matt would be able to play and sing this well!

Scott MacIntyre (1985) - St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion) or I Want To Know What Love Is, Foreigner: whatever he chooses will be "smooth soft AC" all the way!

Anoop Desai (1986) - Broken Wings, Mr. Mister or At This Moment - Billy Vera: Both let Anoop use his voice and show emotion, two things he does well.

Allison Iraheta (1992) - Smells Like Teen Spirit, Nirvana or I Can't Make You Love Me, Bonnie Raitt: love, Love, LOVE Allison. I think Bonnie Raitt would appeal to more people, but dang, the Nirvana could be awesome. She could do it in the Tori Amos stripped down arrangement too.

OK, just some random thoughts on possible song choices!!

Outside of the box for Adam:

INXS Don't Change
Led Zepplin - Baby Come on Home
The Cure - Let's go to bed (slowed down with the "Upright" treatment
Ghosts - The Jam

Please oh please no Journey or any other hair bed hell power ballads. Ej Blue Eyes is just a bit blah as a song when there are so many other great options. Under Pressure would be ok, between the Bowie bits and the Freddie bits it about covers his range :-)

80's aren't a total wasteland if you get out of the top 40.

For Adam:
He can run with the punk rocker theme and do "I Love Rock and Roll" (Joan Jett), "Tainted Love" (Softcell) or "Under Pressure" (Queen and David Bowie).

Or go softer, as we have seen him do, and sing "She's Got a Way" (Billy Joel) or "Always On My Mind" (Willie Nelson).

Oh man, "Shadows Of The Night" (Pat Benatar) is on this list too. That song really gets me going.

Hmmm . . . TOUGH one. Adam is a big fan of Freddie Mercury and David Bowie, so what better choice is there than "Under Pressure"? But can this song showcase his range? Ah hell, he'll find a way to make it work. And I've gotta say, I think whatever he will do, is the same as what he should do, because he always makes the smartest decisions.
But to go ahead and be fair, here goes nothing:

What I think Adam will do: Under Pressure
What I wanna see: I Love Rock and Roll

The top 4 that stand out to me are:

1. The Rose (Bette Midler);
2. She's Out Of My Life (Michael Jackson);
3. Stand By Me (Mickey Gilley); and
4. I Wanna Be Your Lover (Prince).

My gut says he will do the Rose, but that may be too predictable. I could definitely see him shouting out some "darling, darling, stand by me," but if he wants to air on the side of unpredictabiltiy, a little Prince could be fun without being sloppy. Now if he does the M.J. song, he might get some slack given the meaning of the song and his well-advertised personal story, but I say, why not? It would really allow him to have a tender, vulnerable moment if he simply just feels it and pretends to be the only one in the room. So . . .

What I think Danny Gokey will sing: The Rose

What I'm hoping for: She's Out Of My Life.

OMG I looooooove Adam Ant. I saw him in concert in the early 80's and it was wild. He submerged himself in a tank of water on stage. Crazy awesome.

OK. Never mind "Crimson and Clover", Adam should do some Ant music and use the water tank.

Jayd,

Love me some Psych! And Tears for Fears. Pretty much loved all the New Wave music from the 80s. Adam Ant and Billy Idol were a couple of my faves, but I didn't see any Adam Ant on the lists. Boo!

Friend or Foe came out in 1982 - and Adam could so do anything from that album, (except Man Called Marco) and I'd be in heaven. Goody Two Shoes was the single and might be the smartest choice from that album since it's the only one that anyone who wasn't a huge fan of Adam Ant might recognize. Plus it's pretty catchy. He could also do The Doors' Hello, I Love You - since that was on the album.

<strong>kerfluffle</strong>
<blockquote>Shout (Tears for Fears)

I had my 9-year-old singing this song for days after downloading it recently. Shawn and Gus (Psych) did an Idol spoof and dressed up like Tears for Fears. It was hilarious. I'd forgotten how much I liked that song. It's at least 6 minutes long, so a few "Shout, shout, let it all outs" would have to be scrapped. (lol) If someone takes it on, I would love it if they sang my favorite part: "<strong>They gave us life, and in return we gave them hell</strong>" (that's pretty close anyway.)

</blockquote>Against the Wind (Bob Seger)

If Danny sang a Bob Seger song, I think I may actually like it.

<blockquote>Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t You Forget About Me (Simple Minds)

Wonder how that song would sound as a stripped down (almost stalkerish a la DC's "Always Be My Baby") ballad? Just a thought...</blockquote>

Allison has a few really good options for the year 1992:

She could go acoustic like Adam did a few weeks ago with:

Tears in Heaven (Eric Clapton) this is a beautiful ballad with enough dynamics to showcase Allison's range and give her an opportunity to demonstrate some lyrical tenderness.

Under the Bridge (Red Hot Chili Peppers) - Being from LA, I think that Allison could really connect with this song and re-interpret the "I don't ever want to feel..." chorus with her joplin-esque signature.

Or

She could bring the house down with...

Right Now (Van Halen) - Allison is such a rocker and would do this song sooooo much better than David Lee Roth. And, being so utterly marginalized by the judges, I think that she could really identify with lyrics like:

"One step ahead, one step behind me
Now you gotta run to get even
Make future plans, dont dream about yesterday, hey
Cmon turn, turn this thing around"

or

Remedy (The Black Crowes) - I think Allison could establish herself as the next queen of rock with this gritty, soulful masterpiece worthy of any juke joint. Plus she could score pimp points by working a pun on her hair color with some of the lyrics:

"Baby, baby why did you dye your hair?
Why you always keeping with your mothers dare? "

I'll have a go. I don't know lots of the songs on the lists, and based on what everyone's saying on here, age-wise, I think I may be (one of) the oldest. I went to my 10-year high school reunion the year Kris (and Matt and Scott) was (were) born. Gah!

Of the songs I recognized, and knowing some would need to be rearranged, these are what I came up with ...

<strong>1980 - Danny:</strong>
Against the Wind (Bob Seger)

<strong>1982 - Adam:</strong>
Eye of the Tiger (Survivor)
Tainted Love (Soft Cell)
867-5309 (Tommy Tutone)
Only the Lonely (The Motels)
I Ran (Flock of Seagulls)
Empty Garden (Elton John)
Crimson and Clover (Joan Jett)
Every Little Thing She Does is Magic (The Police)
Hot in the City (Billy Idol)
Working for the Weekend (Loverboy)

<strong>1984 - Lil:</strong>
What's Love Got to Do With It (Tina Turner)

<strong>1985 - Kris, Matt, Scott:</strong>
Careless Whisper (Wham!)
Everybody Wants to Rule the World (Tears for Fears)
Don't You Forget About Me (Simple Minds)

<strong>1985 - Kris, Matt:</strong>
Take on Me (A-Ha)
Shout (Tears for Fears)

<strong>1985 - Kris:</strong>
Things Can Only Get Better (Howard Jones)
Walking On Sunshine (Katrina and the Waves)

<strong>1985 - Matt:</strong>
Heaven (Bryan Adams)
Summer of '69 (Bryan Adams)

<strong>1986 - Anoop:</strong>
True Colors (Cyndi Lauper)
The Sweetest Taboo (Sade)
All I need is a Miracle (Mike and the Mechanics)

<strong>1992 - Allison:</strong>
Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough (Patty Smyth)
That's What Love is For (Amy Grant)
I Will Remember You (Amy Grant)

I'd like "Crimson and Clover" for Adam. Here's Kelly Clarkson doing it ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGydzIkhDKI

Of course, I detest Journey, so that's probably what he'll pick.

Anoop should do "Take my breath away".....he could do wonderful things with that song.. and I really hope he stops caring about what the judges say and just have fun since the show is fixed for its faves at this point

Matt: Alive and Kicking, Simple Minds/ Don't you (forget about me) - This last one was performed for Live Aid and was one of the anthems of the 80s. He should be able to kill off the competition with this one.

Adam: I want candy, Bow wow wow;

Okay, so Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure others have ideas for Adam Lambertà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s song (from 1982) but here are my suggestions.1) I love rock n roll: Joan jett & the blackhearts; easy to update and in Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ilk ie gothish; 2) Hurts so good: Johnny Cougar: No comment necessary

Danny could do Love on the Rocks: Neil Diamond or maybe Hungry Heart (Springsteen)or Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve lost that lovinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ feeling (Hall & Oates did a cover). Or even Woman - John Lennon (risky).

Lil could do Here comes the Rain Again: The Eurythmics; Time After Time; Cyndi Lauper.

More for Lil. Anything from Tina Turnerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Private Dancer Album. I like à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stand the rainà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Private Dancerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s love got to do with ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

Adam. Ray Parker Jnr à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m in love with the other womanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , Soft Cell à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Tainted loveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ; Rod Stewart did a version of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Hot Legsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ with Tina Turner in à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹82.

Kris. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Heavenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , Bryan Adams; à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“One more nightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , Phil Collins; à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Broken Wings:, Mr Mister;

Matt. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Lonely olà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ nightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , John Cougar; Mellencamp, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Careless Whisperà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , George Michael; à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Freedomà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , Wham; à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Mony Monyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , Billy Idol

Matt: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“We close our eyesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , Go West; à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Would I lie to youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , Eurythmics; à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Addicted to Loveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , Robert Palmer

Anoop:à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Mean to meà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . Crowded House; à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“You can call me Alà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , Paul Simon

Danny: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“While you see a chanceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , Steve Winwood

Adam: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The one thingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , INX

Alison: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Come as you areà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , Nirvana; à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Damn, I wish I was your loverà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , Sophie Hawkins; à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I have nothingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , Whitney Houston

Why couldn't Allison have been born 1985 I think she would rock on Papa don't Preach.

I actually picked " Love takes Time" for Alison. I think that even though it's a Mariah Carey song she could rock it out. I also think it would be a chance to show her softer side.

For Danny I picked "The Rose" I think it's a Danny song...

For Adam my favorite songs are Money and "I love Rock and Roll" either would be amazing!

I think Anoop should sing one of my favorite songs "The Glory of Love"

And while 1985 is loaded with Wham! I think that Matt should sing "Heaven" Scott should go with "Your the Inspriation"

I like "The Boys of Summer" for Kris.

Matt, Scott, and Kris all in the same year may have to do some juggling of songs. Good thing Megan left or there would have been four. I guess all three have a different vibe so probably wouldn't want the same songs anyway. It is pretty funny that Adam is ten years older than Allison and Scott twelve. She sure is able to hang right in there with them. I kind of like "song from the year you were born" week. Lots of choices.

Adam has some decent choices. I would love for him to slow it up again maybe Elton John's Empty Garden, Roberta Flack''''s Feel Like Making Love, or Journey's Open Arms. If he sprinkled them with a little Lambert magic, it could basically seal his place in the finale.

Lil on the other hand was born in 80's wasteland it seems. So I guess she could do Time After Time, What's Love Got to do with it, or Let's Hear it for The Boy

Allison Sometimes Love Just Aint Enough, or to totally catch everyone of guard, Make it Happen by Mariah Carey!

Kris, Do What you Do by Jermaine Jackson, or Julian Lennon's Valotte, or Too Late for Goodbyes.

I am just gonna pray for Anoop because the only thing i could come up with for him is Prince's Kiss, and that is a scary yet interesting thought, nothing else seemed rights.

Danny has imho the best year to work with, a wealth of riches, da bastid, he is gonna do well, mark my words, well unless he shamefully panders or wears goat horns or something, lol.

Matt, Careless Whisper

Scott, We are the World, he lives to sing another day

I like the fact that Adam and Allison get their respective birth years all to themselves. They can hopefully be creative (within the confines of the legal system and TPTB's whims, that is)

Sharing 1985 will be no picnic. Can't wait (snicker, snicker)

I remembered this morning that Yaz's "Upstairs at Eric's" came out in 1982 - I'm sure Adam's choice will be a bit more mainstream, but I would LOVE to hear him sing anything from that CD. I think it's been in my car CD player for the last year.

I also realized that plenty of good music came out in 1986 - The Queen is Dead, Life's Rich Pageant, So, etc. Nothing that would ever be cleared for Idol, lol.
