Nigel Lythgoe talks with Zap2it.com about tonight’s “Meet the Top 20″ show, and how he’d like to meld personality and technical skill for Season 6. He felt Season 4 had the personality, and Season 5 the technical skill.
Out of the crop of Season 5, Phillip Chbeeb is the dancer Nigel would like to see come back to choreograph.
The SYTCD 6 “Meet The Top 20″ premiers tonight at 8 pm. (Yes, the Yankees won last night!), the Top 20 performance episode/judges elimination airs Tuesday night at 8 pm.
Nigel tweeted, “All you Paula Abdul fans please check out next Monday’s show.” Hm…

So, any Russian Folk dancing this time around??
BWAH!!!
Well, I definately will be “meeting” the top 20 as I haven’t tuned into this season of SYTYCD so far. I’m hoping to be able to avoid the AI auditions as well, so they can all have a “clean slate.” Hee.
I’d love to see Philip come back and choreograph, I could have sworn I saw him in a commercial last week, just caught a glimpse, Toyota maybe? Anyway, I’m looking forward to ‘meeting the top 20′ tonight I think it’s a great idea
Russian Folk dancing, not so much.
Choreograph lyrical hip-hop?
Hell Yeah!
Pacman’s not afraid to mix dance generes and I love the musical choices he makes for his pieces. (Postal Service, Mraz, Regina Spektor) It reminds me of watching the street crews battle to Dead Can Dance, way back in the day.
I just went to the show Fri. night and I can tell you, Phillip’s solo was the ONLY routine in the show to get almost a 100% standing ovation. He was sensational. My boyfriend (who never watched the show but took me because he loves me) asked as we were leaving, who was that guy phillip? Why didnt he win? He had more cheers and audience approval than jeanine or even the breast cancer routine!
Guess I don’t have to check out next Monday’s show…am not a Paula fan. So sad.
Uh, has Nigel forgotten that Season 5’s winner was swimming with both technical skill AND loads of personality and charisma?!
Yes, Phillip got the first, full standing ovation at my concert, too.
MJ, on the spoilers you listed, there wasn’t a choreographer for tap was there? I bet Paula is choreographing the Tap routine. If that’s the case then the routine will be amazing. Her tap intro into “Straight Up” anyone?
So tell me, is the tour worth the money? I am debating weather to get a last minute ticket for this Sunday’s show.
I second this! It bothers me everytime he says that.
Monday’s show as in tonight? I’m confused.
I can think of 5 girls that I really don’t care to know more about already.
ETA: Apparently Mia is in a Toronto hospital. She hurt her back teaching a routine for the Canadian Finale show.

NIGEL, I WISH TO REMIND YOU THAT SANDRA COLTON WAS THE FIRST TAP DANCER TO MAKE THE FINAL CUT!
Sandra was in Season 1 and a TOP 16 Finalist. Her solo was a Hip Hop TAP dance. She was very confident; however, Nigel did not like her and called her, ” A Tap dancing cheerleader.” She is such a beautiful girl and wasn’t afraid to tell it like it was.
Sandra was upset that she was eliminated and felt she didn’t have screen time in Hollywood. She wanted the viewers to ‘hear’ her routine which was difficult because of the music. Guess what? Her send off dance was done without music, and she was awesome!
I watched the entire episode and result show last night. They did have four judges. There was no ‘here are the girls’ and ‘here are the guys’after the introductions. During Season 1, Blake and Ashley did a routine to a style called, “‘Rock ‘n Roll”, which I don’t rememebr seeing again. Allan would never have made the current show. Lauren wasn’t that bad of a host, but they put her in the worse clothes. Cat has class that Lauren did not.
The goal for Season 1 was to find, “AMERICA’S MOST AMAZING DANCER.” The first TAP dancer to appear on the show was SANDRA COLTON. Got that, Nigel.
