Gag me! I know that doesn’t add much to the discussion, but it’s all I can say. This whole sitch. was so ridiculously and cowardly swept under the rug, it makes me ill.
Gag me too - look at that fake smile - that dress - next week they will have her dress as Mary Poppins
Oh yes, when I saw that dress and hair I snorted so loudly it scared my cat.
I’ve always rather liked Paula. I think most of the time her responses are better than Simons or Randys. She’s flakey at times but I can deal with that. She is the only judge that really understand what it’s like to be a solo performer on the stage. She did flub up this week but cut the girl some slack it’s not like she’s the first one to make a mistake. (Simon thinks he’s the know it all but he passed on Taylor, Chris and now David Cook in their auditions.) She made a mistake but so did Jason as he made poor song choices (didn’t take the mentor’s advice)and didn’t do his homework (learning lyrics) .As he says you like it or you don’t. I doub’t he has any hard feelings about this as I think he realizes he is lucky to still be on the show as several really good singers have left before him.
It’s so silly. Pick one story and stick with it. The dress rehearsal version, which I think is probably the most likely, will seem lame but people will get over it. Trying to gloss over it and saying “we wuv Paula!!!” just makes it seem like there’s something to hide.
It’s funny but my mom and bf, both casual viewers, just wrote the whole thing off as Paula being crazy.
If I did that on my job, no one would cut me any slack. My ass would be fired. So, no, she has to be coherent for an hour and can’t manage that at 5pm CA time? Sorry. I don’t care if it was Jason or Cookie or Archie. The show should address that she’s either using notes from rehearsal to judge live performances (not fair) or is getting fed lines from the producers on the teleprompter on the table underneath her coke glass (paper my ass.. this is 2008).
I agree it is not the first time Paula has made a mistake, she has made many before this and has actually acted worse. People are forgiven for making mistakes. This time though she has out and out blatantly lied over and over and over - THAT is the problem that most everyone is having. Tell the damn truth - YOU WERE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE NEXT PERFORMER - YOU WERE READING NOTES TAKEN EARLIER - THATS ALL, TELL THE TRUTH AND APOLOGIZE TO ALL OF THE DEVOTED VIEWERS WHO HELPED YOU LIVE THE WAY YOU DO AND HAVE WHAT YOU HAVE.
Its not even Jason anymore - SHE LIED AND KEEPS LYING -
Isn’t Paula such a lovely person? she just loves all the contestants so much and only wants to help them ! [/sarcasm]
Think how many Valums they must’ve pumped into her to keep her coherent throughout all these interviews. Poor Paula, no uppers for 48 hours !!!
WTF is she even BABBLING about??? Ugh! Really all of the alumni are totally relevant, heh?
She puts a “.” after every word. Stammers and close to stuttering.
Maybe the Heimlich Manuever would work. They could incorporate that into the show.
After each performance an Idol gets to whack her back. Then we get to vote on which idol has the best whack.
gah.
My gosh that guy is one tough MF of a questioner!!!!!!
ahhh, I kinda like Pauler, I feel sorry for her. She does carry a LOT of emotional baggage that she just can’t seem to check in. Keeps carrying it along. I think she’s a bit unstable, a bit nuts, not too bright and very needy. I think her heart is in the right place but she makes a lot of bad judgements. And this is classic.
On a side note, don’t know if this is very common knowledge so apologies if it is. I was in the hairdressers yesterday reading the normal schlock magazines. There was an article, the usual drag out the high school/prom picture of celebs. They had Paula’s high school photo. She has had a major nose job!! Boy did she ever have a huge hooter! I suppose she’d say she had a deviated septum and it was medical. She looks a lot better so I can’t say I blame her.
I can’t even watch. Too much syrup makes my teeth hurt.
But here’s the thing: I can see it from Paula’s point of view and all, but why is it that they can’t see that she punched Jason in the stomach right before he was supposed to sing?!
I just read a review of the show from someone who was there and they said Jason wasn’t even trying on his second song. No! Duh!
I would have been in a Brooke-esque fetal position in a back room bawling my head off! Now THAT would have made for some great reality tv!
sciencefan … that’s what pisses me off also. (Well the whole thing pisses me off.) They NEVER mention how this would affect Jason’s performance. You think at least once in passing one of these interviewers would touch on that.
It’s all just damage control for AI.
Some people think they made Jason “safe” first by way of an apology. I think they did it to calm down his fanbase and try to make it all go away ASAP.
You notice how it is always 30-40 million people who know who these contestants are even though the ratings keep going down? Fascinates me…..
I heart Paula. I really do. Now, if that whole Tuesday night snafu would have happened with Randy, it would have been a whole other story….
That reminds me… when Ryan went to Randy for a quick opinion of the show so far, was he really supposed to start giving each individual critique?
The way Ryan framed his question with we don’t have a lot of time, real quick what’s your impression so far, I thought Randy was supposed to say something like, “I don’t know, Dawg. [sucks air in through his teeth] The first half really wasn’t that impressive. I really think everyone’s gotta step it up for the second half.” That’s what I was expecting anyway - based on Ryan’s question.
So in my opinion, all this trouble was really started by Randy who misunderstood the question and gave the wrong answer.
Did anybody else think that?
Very good point sciencefan!
Hmm, I wonder is Ryan WAS intending for him to just give a general appraisal? Great impersonation of Randy, by the way. I totally heard his voice while I was reading it;)
Well, I’m happy to blame Randy for anything. So, I can get on board with that theory.
I just re-watched David Cook’s audtion for AI, Simon was a “yes”.
I have finally figured out Simon this year.
I could never understand why he seemed so wishy-washy.
He makes the most sense when I look at him as “the voice of the average tv viewer”.
He’s not really giving HIS opinion as much as he’s giving his opinion about what “most people” are thinking.
That’s my theory, anyway.
And the one that works the best for me.
