Paula Abdul on Season 8 Dancing With the Stars?

From Radar magazine:

American Idol judge Paula Abdul is joining Dancing with the Stars next season - as a contestant! “Paula is very excited to be on board,” a source close to Paula exclusively told RADAR. The 46-year old pop singer is reportedly uncertain about her future with American Idol after an obsessed fan committed suicide in front of her home, and Paula has been publicly “shopping around” for another prime time TV project. Season 8 of Dancing with the Stars begins in March.

Now, that’s kind of silly, isn’t it? How can Paula do both American Idol and Dancing with the Stars at the same time? Won’t Paula be kind of busy when the DWTS results show airs on Tuesday nights?

Anyway, Paula’s publicist says she isn’t going anywhere…

Are Paula’s peeps stirring the pot in order to squeeze more moolah out of TPTB?

I’d love to see her on DWTS, but I’ll take this one with a grain of salt…for now.

Oh Paula, give it up. You’re never going to get paid what Simon gets paid.

As for her being on DWTS, all I can think of was how much whining she did on that Bravo series - can you imagine the drama on DWTS!

I agree. Season 9 (fall) is definitely possible though…

Because she herself is a choreographer/dancer, that could be some cool teevee.

I say trainwreck (which admittedly would be great fun)

:laugh_tb: But of course. Who could resist it?

well- isn’t DWTD for non-dancing stars? She is a professional dancer…

Geez, viewers cry foul when they find out a celeb took ballet lessons as a child! How would they feel about a former Laker Girl/choreographer? And what happened to all Pauler’s pain that supposedly prevents her from dancing? She probably wants Carrie Ann’s job!

So does she think that if Cloris had good ratings at age 80 that she needs to give it a shot? She can’t talk let alone dance anymore

Disclaimer: I was never proficient at either.

If this is true, I find it a little weird that they would be allowing a professional dancer to be a contestant on the show. Um… hopefully this is false.

Dont they say this every year?

DWTS is strictly entertainment. There are no rules other than to create ratings.

And post-Paulagate and Brooke’s lyric dropping and spontaneously remembering, you don’t think that is the case with Idol? Okie dokie. I think DWTS goes about its business with a hell of a lot more respect for both the contestants and the viewers, but that is just my opinion.

Simon supposedly is on this year for AI8 under a new contract that pays him an astronomical amount of money, something like $36 million was what I saw, and she “only” gets a small (very small 15-20%) fraction of that.

She’d be so wacked-out on pain pills from her back hurting so bad that she wouldn’t even be able to stand, much less dance.

Yep, Idol is all about entertainment too. Its probably way more scripted than anyone would believe. We have pretty good evidence that the selection process is suspect as well. But in the end we’re all like MJ, we love this cheesy show! And over the years Idol has validated itself as a money making machine and provided a new path for musicians like Kelly, Carrie, Daughtry and now the David’s to become legitimate superstars.

When I first read the headline, I thought her back would prevent her from being a pro dancer. Maybe she wants Carrie;s job. Finally, I thought…NO WAY.

I think she will do the show soon enough, if not this spring then in the fall. She said as much in a recent interview, I recall. She said she would have liked to do it this past season, but wasn’t able to due to Idol, but that she would like to in the future. She loves to dance and would love doing this show. Maybe the 4th judge will give her the chance to take some time off - temporarily - to do the show. More likely next fall though. I don’t think it’s about money. She surely has plenty of money after 7 years of Idol. DWTS is right up her alley, it’s music, costumes, dance, and applause. What wouldn’t she love about it? :)
