This is why they ditched the 2 performances, not Jamie, not the judges, not time. Hokey’s vocal strain is palpable already and they want him in the final so bad they’re willing to alter the entire historical format.

It is not like it is his first press conference and it is not like there is anything new beyond swine flu to talk about that you can’t just tune into CNN after Idol and hear discussed to death for 3 hours.

So the best solution to the time crunch that they could come up with is to dump five songs and add a “mentor” who’s tenuous connection is that he played a singer in a movie a couple years ago? That’s the BEST they could do? I’ve got an idea: How about making the show LONGER?

What ever happened to the “This is a singing competition” party line? Or is this my naivete showing through?

I’ve been reading this stuff today, and I am amazed and quite frankly stunned. We’ve had an old guy that almost nobody knew but those over 40, Frankie whatever his name was. We’ve had Flo-rida, we’ve had QT, who I know does not sing. At least that would be a link as Jamie is a musical artist. Certainly this isn’t about Miley because we have been lambasting that poor child and her BFF Tayllor Swift for months. Hell Miley has less of a link to the show than Jamie. I don’t get it.

As for the wisdom of the Fox decision, no comment…..

I feel bad that the gang prepared 2 songs and had this happen but hey happens in RL all the time. Get used to it when Letterman and Leno run overtime with some guest like Jamie Foxx.

I actually hate 90 second songs – so many songs you cannot do justice to in 90 seconds and I want to know if a person can actually deliver the full length of a song.

It’s entertaining. It’s a tradition. I’m bummed.

My guess is that this has more to do with the judges talking to long than a guest mentor. I agree that at this point it should be a 2 hours show, or at least an hour and a half.

He does have a good voice. I actually have his song from a few years ago, “Slow Jams”, on my ipod. Miley? Oh hell no.

He’s as good of an actor as most movie stars today.

I just don’t want his appearance to interfere with Adam singing 2 songs…it’s fine for me all of the others sing 1- yeah fuck it! I am all about the Adam.

So is Obama making a speech tomorrow night? I read something about that in he paper a few days ago.

Yea he is, but Fox will not air it…AI will air on its regular schedule.
ABC, CBS, NBC will all have President Obama speech.

She said ” why is it that AI will pay money for 2hrs time slot for stupid auditions, but yet when the real show start they go to 1hr?…what they should do is have only 1hr shows for the auditions, 1 1/2 hr for Hollywood week, then 2hrs for the Top 12 shows”.

She also said: “AI makes the most money for FOX that they should schedule the other shows around AI time slots. That AI produces and judges keep telling us that its a signing contest, yet its more talking and BS than singing…they need to give the contestant more time to sing, since thats what they signed up for”

I totally agree with her. Last week the performances all seemed so short…especially Adams. They need to get rid of Kara, get Nigel back, and cut out the long winded intro from Ryan (even though I like it and like him as well).

Really? One performance and the rest filler? What I have always liked about the two performances was the chance for the contestants to show some range, to sing for the length of 3 minutes instead of 90 seconds, and to receive a chance to recover from a poor performance and show their mettle. Oh well.

Jamie certainly did not use the best form, but I kind of agree Myley should be shot down (figuratively, of course)
