Paula Abdul To Get Her Own Show On The Las Vegas Strip?
Here’s an interesting rumor about American Idol judge, Paula Abdul, via Robin Leach:
There are whispers that Paula could star in her own show in the Wayne Brady Theater while heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s appearing there or when his run is over.
So Paula did go with BASE Entertainment chief Scott to the Wayne Brady Theater last night as we’d tweeted on Twitter. After dinner at Strip House, Paula and Scott bypassed Peepshow and instead went to The Venetian. There they watched Wayne Brady’s Makin’ It Up and afterward went backstage to meet in his dressing room. Paula also got a tour of the theater and backstage.
It all confirms the rumors we posted Monday that she’s in serious talks with BASE for a show at Wayne’s theater in The Venetian. We’ll continue to watch this developing story of Paula’s hoped for new Las Vegas show.
Hmmm…Paula could be quite the draw, I think. Actually, if Paula toured a greatest hits show, I think she could do really well. She had lots of fans back in the day who I bet would shell out the money to see her again.

True. I mean look at how the New Kids On The Block made a comeback after 20 years. I never would’ve thought it could happen!
I’m not so sure about that. A lot of Vegas custom, not sure about the percentages, comes from overseas visitors. And Paula, as per my personal non-scientific and unreliable observations, is not an internationally recognized name anymore.
As long as she doesn’t sing DANCE LIKE THERE’S NO TOMORROW, I could see the appeal. (And as long as it means she isn’t leaving IDOL!) Remember, Adam remembers her as being his first concert; maybe he would have gone again. Heh.
Wayne Brady is?
I think she would be uber-successful at this. Everyone knows her from Idol, so I would expect a big draw.
I think she would be successful too. She was always as much of a dancer as a singer. Las Vegas loves those big glitzy concerts, and her fans would be in the middle-aged demo that spends a lot in Vegas. I wouldn’t mind seeing her leave AI. I say shake up the judges panel some more!
Maybe she can hire some exIdols as her backup singers.

No, I don’t know much about him, but he was on an improv show on TV with Drew Carey and I thought he had tons of talent. I think there is/was another show with him too…

Paula would be perfect for this. Vegas is all about spectacle. It’s a match made in heaven. I’d pay a few bucks to see her.
I just doubt she has the strength and stamina to perform nightly. Isn’t she always complaining about being in pain from some past injuries?

Can Paula lipsynch on drugs? If not, I think booking her for an extended engagement could be real headache. Idol has had a hard time getting her sober one night a week.

I agree, MJ. The people who danced to Opposites Attract are in their 40s now and loaded with dispensible income and in need of vacations. If the idea is that she’d open for Wayne Brady or someone else–30 minute opener?–I think it would be great for her. Frankly, I’d like to see her do something that she’s kind of good at.
I think she was in an accident and had a serious neck injury. Kind of a big deal.
But she knows best whether her recuperation is sufficient to undertake the performances.
