Paula’s New Project

Paula Abdul has a side project

From a press release:

American Idol judge Paula Abdul has joined the creative team of BRATZ: THE MOVIE, the first live action feature based on Bratz(TM), the highly popular brand of fashion dolls manufactured by leading consumer entertainment products company MGA Entertainment.

Abdul will serve as executive producer on BRATZ: THE MOVIE, and will play an integral part in several key creative areas, including music, choreography and fashion. She will work closely with the director, producers and casting director to discover fresh talent for the film. In addition, Abdul will portray one of the film’s major characters.

Aren’t Bratz dolls, like, so totally 2003?  Sez Paula:

“I am extremely excited about working on this film, which incorporates and celebrates so many of my passions, from music, dance and choreography to fashion and design,” Abdul confirms. “As a brand, Bratz(TM) encourages young girls to follow their dreams and express themselves. This authentic and organic philosophy has always been an important part of my life and my work and I will always continue to nurture new talent while keeping their  dreams alive. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a message that can’t be repeated enough.”

The “Role Models” of which Paula speaks:

BratzBRATZ — SYNOPSIS
BRATZ follows four teenage girls who are from socially and economically diverse backgrounds. What they have in common is their wish to be themselves and realize their dreams and aspirations. They start their journey separated by high school cliques, only to realize that by becoming Bratz, their lives will be more fulfilling. A story of empowerment and wish fulfillment, told through a unique mix of song, dance, and of course, fashion!

Having giant bug-eyes and dressing like a hooker = A life of fulfillment.  Okey doke. Go Paula.

I’m desperately trying to think of something clever, witty. Some snark. But I’m just dumbstruck. There are no words.

Listen, imagine my horror when my daughter received a “Big Baby Bratz doll” wearing a black net thong over her big baby bratz butt. It was wearing pleather thigh high boots….

    *shudder*

At least Barbie pretended to be an astronaut and a career woman at times, while she drove around in her pink!Convertible. I detest BRATZ dolls. They glorify materialism. They’re unattractive. Of course they’re wildly popular with my Daughter and her little friends (at least my Daughter prefers American Girl dolls). Sigh.

LOL MJ, you’re such a cynic. I love it.

Oh MJ you silly goose! Bratz are more popular than ever with the tweens. In fact, I hadn’t even heard of them until last year. So no, they aren’t so 2003 :oP

Also, even though I agree that they aren’t the role models we want kids to have especially young girls, it’s everywhere in clothes, dolls, videos, tv, fav singers, etc… By Paula being in the movie and funding it she is just getting involved in something that is already popular, making money, and considered by lots of parents as a good source of imagination, fun, and carefree spirit. Let’s love on Paula, not hate on her!

But… but, there’s already a Bratz cartoon. Haven’t we suffered enough?
