Please Don’t Stop the Music - Providence, RI - VIDEO

OK, “Please Don’t Stop the Music” involved wigs, crazy dancing, stuffed rabbits and a very messy mavid toast. Much hilarity and hijinks ensued! Check it out for yourself after the jump…

That? Was really funny. All of the Idols seemed really loose during that. (Not sure that I’ve ever seen Carly having so much fun on stage.) Loved that the bass player had on the clown wig. The Mavid was good, but the Cookuleta was better. Thanks, MJ!

  2. 2 GwendolynD Sep 8th, 2008 at 1:04 am

Clearly, that clown wig is making the rounds.

    Michael Johns - hilarious.

I fully expect everyone to be involved by the end of the tour.

You rock MJ!!… Glad you had fun!… Thank you!! :)

  4. 4 Autumn Sep 8th, 2008 at 1:06 am

I love the Mavid but MJ isn’t funny to me anymore when he acts all crazy at the start of the number :( He comes across to me as trying a little too hard and I think it takes away from the other Idols during their “solo”…………….

  5. 5 bigepaz Sep 8th, 2008 at 1:07 am

Great video MJ! That MAVID toast was hilarious and the stuffed bunny thumbs up by ArchuCook was cute!

    Glad you had a blast.

  6. 6 brie200 Sep 8th, 2008 at 1:09 am

Yeah, Autumn. I hesitate to say it sometimes because I know there is so much love for the Mavid and I have no problem with that or goofing off during the stuffy number they are forced to do…but MJ looks like somebody’s drunk uncle here. He spends way too much time trying to make it all about him during the other Idols entrances. I’m sure MJ might not mean to do it, but the whole number isn’t supposed to be about him and it doesn’t seem like he knows that.

    Thanks for the video MJ.

Funny, I guess, but Salvador Dali paintings are starting to make more sense.

LOL Archie and the rabbit I´m want a big photo of him holding it… :lol_tb:

  9. 9 Autumn Sep 8th, 2008 at 1:16 am

Glad I’m not the only one brie. Don’t get me wrong, I love MJ and I love the silly stunts but I liked it better when it was strictly at the end of number when DC and MJ crossed paths….and I love how Cook always (tries!) throws Archie off but not much can make that kid lose his concentration LOL

  10. 10 brie200 Sep 8th, 2008 at 1:19 am

I like when the Idols goof off when the pass each other during all the walking around. That’s fun. As is the Cook/Archie. I just agree that it’s a bit much when MJ’s trying to deflect attention off of the other Idols when they make their entrances.

  11. 11 gerreb Sep 8th, 2008 at 1:21 am

that ArchuCook moment was great! LOL! Archie wasn’t quite sure what to do with it!

  12. 12 AInoob Sep 8th, 2008 at 1:22 am

What a fantastic view you had, MJ. I find watching Michael hilarious because you never know what hammy thing he’s going to do next. The whole amusing aspect of watching him is that he’s so darned spastic, lol. I appreciate his actions because I think, and this is JMO, that he’s in large part responsible for this number being as loose as it is. He interacts with just about every other Idol (he’s even doing a little something with Brooke in this at @ 2:23) so I appreciate that he seems to try and liven up this number. None of the others really did much outside the regular *snicker* choreography so I like to think his antics got them to loosen up a little.

That being said, I also agree that he seemed particularly drunken uncleish tonight, lol.

Did Carly change her top for PDSTM?

  13. 13 mj Sep 8th, 2008 at 1:36 am

I’m going through my vids now, and I’m remembering more stuff.

When the guitar tech hands cookie his guitar, he’s got a clown wig on, but he hands cookie a pair of goofy glasses that he puts on for a minute. He also decides to film the audience in pitch blackness, with only glowsticks and cellphones lighting the arena. SPOOKY! Cookie gets the stuffed bunny off to the side of the stage during “I Don’t want to miss a thing” There he is singing a serious ballad holding a stuffed bunny! LOL.

Anyway, I videoed nearly the entire second half. LOL. I’ve got a lot more to post…

  14. 14 capami Sep 8th, 2008 at 1:45 am

Carly had on a different top tonight. Her usual top is more like a corset.

MJ was off the hook. I don’t know what he’s going to do for the last show.

  15. 15 Sparkles Sep 8th, 2008 at 1:47 am

Great video. Looks like you had a great seat, as always it seems. You did a great job of following & filming the action. I’m looking forward to seeing the rest.

  16. 16 sumidol Sep 8th, 2008 at 1:52 am

That was so much fun to watch, all of them are so good together and goofy., I love how MJ gets them all going and you can see how they love to watch and can hardly sing sometimes. Mj is soooo full of life and fun, he is just plain happy and it shows, he would be a kick to be around. They all would be fun to be around. I cant imagine what they will all be getting up to on the last show. Thanks mj for this.

  17. 17 Suzanne Sep 8th, 2008 at 2:08 am

I like Carly’s new top better. It’s more flattering on her.

  18. 18 fedex pope Sep 8th, 2008 at 2:08 am

I agree, AInoob. I’m not one to read drama!intrigue! from MJ’s spastic dances or PDSTM as a whole. Or think these can significantly sabotage each one’s 3-5 second entrance/vocal solo in an altogether silly, fun performance. I think he’s just trying to get whoever is in proximity to loosen up too, which thankfully inspire all these mini-interactions among everyone within the number. Either that or he regularly takes a few shots of Jager, which also make him less up to evil attention-seeking plotting. :wink_ee: Unless they view an MJ-centric clip on youtube, I’m guessing people in the audience barely even notice unless they’re watching him all that time.

Did Carly change her top for PDSTM?

I don’t think she did. Speaking of Carly, heard she sorta had an early bday celebration at Providence? The MJ fan who made the cake he’s always mentioning at interviews was asked by her mom to do one for Carly and it made its way to her via Michael today. Cool!

I don’t think anyone was implying “drama!intrigue!/sabotage”. Just stateing an opinion that the whole spaz out is getting a bit old for me………..

  21. 21 justic Sep 8th, 2008 at 3:11 am

this was histerical! everyone tonight seem to have so much fun.
WOW MJ your angle is great awesome video! can’t wait for the rest, thank you so so much!
like it or not, Michel Johns is the MAIN reason that this tour is not boring. all the other idols seem to like him and seem more open and relax in PDSTM thanks to his shenanigans
he manages to bring out the lighter side in the other idols
and i don’t think he is stealing the spotlight from them.

    edited…read the guidelines please…thank you.

I agree. I tend to try to focus my eyes on the other idols while watching videos of the last number so that I won’t get irritated. I’m always thrilled when people focus on some of the other Idols when they film PDSTM.

  23. 23 sumidol Sep 8th, 2008 at 3:56 am

I agree the whole “number” isnt about him but his goofiness makes the whole cheesy thing more bearable for all them to do over and over and a lot more fun and interesting for us to watch again and again, well, if you happen to come here to catch the latest in Mavids that is. I love to focus on each Idols set but if left to just the other Idols during this # it would be pretty boring watching them just walk around, as we did when the Mavid was banned. None of them can really dance, especially MJ, so he helps everyone to laugh at themselves and enjoy this. They all loosen up it seems with his help and it looks like they are grateful to him and David C not upset that he is stealing their thunder in this silly little number. Now, if he jumped onstage during their sets, that would be a huge problem.

It seems to me that he loves to get the others to laugh with him more than trys to steal the attention from them, like messing up his hair, it seemed he wanted to get himself looking funny enough to crack David C up when he came out. It is like he is acting like this FOR the Idols benefit, not against them

  24. 24 gingerly Sep 8th, 2008 at 8:29 am

I’ve never been one for MJ’s brand of humor. He doesn’t bother me and I don’t think he’s trying to steal the show, I just don’t find goofiness all that funny. I don’t think any of the other idols have a problem with what he does on stage.

  25. 25 Jolene Sep 8th, 2008 at 8:39 am

Well, I enjoy the Mavid dances, when it’s time for Mavid, and I enjoy the ArchuCook when it’s time for that, but I have to admit that I’ve seen some videos of PDSTM which focus on Michael the entire time and he is ALWAYS ON. It’s just a little exhausting, IMO. The “bits” are funny because they are a break from some baseline. If you’re always pushing and trying so hard, it stops being funny and starts to annoy at some point. At least, it does for me.

Basically, I’m just ready for the tour to be over and for them to show us who they really are on their own as individual musicians. That’s what I’m looking forward too.
The Mavid dances will always be a nice thing to look back at.

  26. 26 shelter Sep 8th, 2008 at 8:55 am

The only reason I watch PDSTM vids is for MJ’s antics. He makes this ridiculous song amusing, and I love when he cracks up most of the other idols.

  27. 27 Autumn Sep 8th, 2008 at 9:59 am

They all loosen up it seems with his help and it looks like they are grateful to him

Funny how “perception” is so individual. To me, Rami, Carly, Jason and even Chikeze look a little embarrassed for MJ.

  28. 28 aly Sep 8th, 2008 at 10:19 am

Michael Johns is hilarious. If not for him and DC I wouldn’t even watch a
a video of that song. He lightens the whole gang up. Go back and watch
the 2 nights there was no goofing off or Mavid. Very bland and boring.

edited….one more outburst like this, and you are banned….

  29. 29 brie200 Sep 8th, 2008 at 10:59 am

Nobody is bashing MJ or saying he’s an awful person. Just stating differences in opinion. Didn’t MJ and DC say the few days where the antics were stopped that they were purposely marching through PDSTM trying to make it as lame as possible as punishment to TPTB? So yeah, not using that as basis.

I’m also not saying that any of the other Idols are upset by MJ’s antics or don’t like him, but the “always on” switch annoys some and maybe normally he loosens the others up, but here some of them are looking at MJ like he’s got two heads.

My only point was what is sometimes funny behavior from MJ just looks weird here IMO. Either he’s playing drunk for some unknown reason or he actually is drunk. I realize that not everyone shares that opinion.

  30. 30 FolkFan Sep 8th, 2008 at 11:15 am

My general perception is that the other contestants like the goofiness, because of their constant mentioning of the Mavid dance on LKL, and because they all went along with the, “fine, we’ll play PDSTM completely straight” during the PTB crackdown and then cut loose once the crackdown was over. There may be particular instances where they find a particular set of antics to be more or less funny or annoying, just as the fans do. But overall, I think that they mostly seem glad to have something break the monotony of the finale song.

I’d also like to think that no one is drunk on that stage, because that would be unprofessional. More likely, they are in the homestretch, and that is probably simultaneously a relief, a bit sad (as many of them seem to be very close), liberating (no more covers and Pop-Tarts, although Pop-Tarts are delicious), and scary (as none of them are guaranteed to ever do another show this big, and most of them do not have recording contracts). Add all that together with MJ’s typical silliness and desire to dance but inability to do much dancing other than flailing, and you get rampant goofiness. Just my opinion.

This sentence is basically what I was trying to convey. Thanks FolkFan. As a Fan of all the Idols and definitely of MJ, there are times when I find his antics annoying-like last night. That doesn’t mean I don’t like him or think the others don’t like him or am bashing him. As much as I adore DC and JC they have at times annoyed me too. I’m not the kind of fan that believes every little criticism needs defending-they are human and humans can be annoying, no big deal.

I agree, I mean is MJ were joking with JC o Chikezie like sometimes has done it will be alright but in this video he looks like he is drung…I mean is not even funny just tiring

I’m not the kind of fan that believes every little criticism needs defending-they are human and humans can be annoying, no big deal.

I think everyone has brought up some interesting points here. However, bottom-line they are just being! If Mjohns is annoying anyone, appears to be drunk or pulling focus from the other performers, or whatever you want to refer to his behavior as, he’s just making it a good time. Heck, if you can’t have fun, what’s the point of even being there. Considering what these people have experienced in the last year of their lives by making the choice to even audition for Idol, let alone actually get on the show and get this far, major respect for all of them. They are breaking themselves to forge some semblance of a career, and if Mjohns needs to flail and do drunken uncle, then so be it - he had me LMAO - and if you can make someone laugh you’re tops in my book. I think if anyone gets that this is all just an experience and it’s not serious by any means, its Mjohns. I’d perfom with him in a heartbeat!

  34. 34 sumidol Sep 8th, 2008 at 12:20 pm

“were stopped that they were purposely marching through PDSTM trying to make it as lame as possible as punishment to TPTB? So yeah, not using that as basis.”

Without the antics of Mj and Cook this bit IS as lame as possible, thank goodness for them. I see absoulutely NO pained expressions or embarrassment from the others, they can barely sing sometimes from laughing and that is a wonderful thing to see. They look out for him in hopes of catching what he is doing along with any other people who enjoy laughing along with them.

MJ is never looking out to the audience with a “look at me, I am trying to be funny look” he is looking to his best friends and goofing around for them and with them and you can see they love it. I cant wait for the interviews after the show about all of this from them. We already know though how they feel about him from interviews before, they always say they like the way he is and they can get just as goofy on their vlogs sometimes so I think this is a pretty happy bunch of people.

I wonder at myself sometimes, I always seem to be going on about MJ lately when Jason is and always will be my # 1, I look forward to seeing Mj make Jason laugh, it is too funny.

  35. 35 ptslittlecomment Sep 8th, 2008 at 12:25 pm

Oh well, to each his/her own. Add me to the list of those who think MJ and the others spice up what is really just their curtain call with their antics. I don’t think Chikezie, for one, is the least bit embarassed by MJ’s antics. He was doing a bit of his own (stroking Ramielle’s hair?) before MJ stepped on stage. In many of the last performances he waits to see what MJ is doing as he goes down the stairs then joins him. The other singers have professed their knowledge of the MAVID antics and several of them sung “please don’t stop the Mavid” during King’s show. Most, if not all, seem delighted to be in on the joke. I’ve noticed that even the backup singers and bass player often get in the fun. And I don’t think MJ was really much more over the top than usual, “our” MJ just was able to capture this round up close and personal in a quality (meaning non-jerky or screechy) video. It was fun!

PS I’m about to put the word “bash” back in the blog filter…

I love watching MJ, he’s a hoot and he makes the idols laugh. His antics have encouraged the other idols to go off script and add little interactions of their own. Chikezie and Ramiele do a little dance together, Kristy does her little routine, DC and Archie have their moment on the runway, the only one who hast joined in is Syesha and I think even her cracked up at some point. I love watching them have fun and Michael is a big reason for that. I love the goofy craziness but I guess not everyone does.

  38. 38 Ipurr4DC Sep 8th, 2008 at 9:43 pm

MJ is there a still shot of DC/DA giving each other the thumbs up at the end of the song? From the video it looked like DA had such a cute expression on his face right then.
