Preview of Kelly Clarkson’s “My December”

AOL Music has posted previews of three additional songs from Kelly Clarkson’s upcoming Album “My December”–”Sober,” ”Maybe,” and “Can I Have A Kiss.”  Kelly’s album is scheduled to drop June 26.  you can listen here at AOL.com

I’ll be back later with a mini-review.  thanks kirsten…

ETA:  I didn’t realize these were just snippets when I posted them.  I can’t really critique a song without listening to the whole thing.  I will say, that I loved Kelly singing “Up to the Mountain” with Jeff Beck, and hope that she grows a harder edge as her career progresses.

I’ll write what I wrote in the other thread. I really like the songs and I’m really looking forward to her new cd, sure it’s not as mainstream or as hook driven as Breakaway but I still think it has its place it todays market.

I think I will give it a listen. “Never Again” has been decreasing in spins these past couple of weeks. I heard that a second single will be released in June from the “My December” album.

I think all the songs are better then Never Again

Just listened. I like the songs so far except “Never Again”. I think the CD will be more dark but still nice to listen to. So far there isn’t a catchy song like “Since U Been Gone” or “Walk Away” but I still like them over all.

    Brava Kelly!

I agree radname. I think all the songs are better than “Never Again”. It’s funny. TPTB picked, IMO, one of the worst songs on the album to debut “My December” with but luckily there will be a second single soon before the CD is released. I read that the songs are being released in sequence of some type of storyline of the album.

One crappy single isn’t really a setback for Kelly C. It’s funny how after all these years she’s still the top cat.

Wow, I’m really feelin these songs.
    Way more mature soundind.
I don’t think it will be as big as Breakaway but thats a tough mountain to climb.
I do, however, feel that this will critically be a huge success. It sounds great.

Her “crappy” single still is getting respectable airplay. We’ll see. Not crazy about the snippets on first listen. Usually takes me a few times to get a feel for a song. Hope she does well.

I like “Sober”. IMO it is the best song so far that I have heard.

MJ, here is a link to Blake on the Mike and Juliet Morning Show. I think this is one of his best yet. He even throws a little u2 in there at the end, very watch-worthy :)

I do like Kelly’s new stuff.

Love the clips. Never Again is ok..but i’m over it. Love to hear her “singing” on the others.

Meh….I personally find it impossible to judge an album by snippets from a few songs. I’m taking a wait and see approach - wait and see if the full album ends up on AOL during the week of its release. :) If I like what I hear, maybe I’ll buy it.

I’ve only listened to Breakaway a few times, and it’s a bit too poppy as a whole for my personal taste. However, seeing Kelly perform during the Sgt. Pepper’s Medley on the AI6 finale reminded me that I quite like Kelly when she gets down and gritty (which is different from angry, imho).

I absolutely loved her version of Up to the Mountain with Jeff Beck. I have been listening to it a lot lately.

I’m very intrigued by Kelly’s new work. Anyone who tries to be true to themself and stands up to authority, gets me interested. Clips are a bit too short to tell much.

I’m posting here what I posted at the Idol Chatter blog earlier today:

I haven’t actually listened to the clips yet, but I’ve heard some pretty good things about them so far. I bet there will be a stream of the full album at mtv or vh1 in a couple of weeks.

No, this album may not be as commercially successful as “Breakaway” was, but it is obviously the album she wanted to make, felt she needed to make, and fought for, and for that alone I hope it does well.

I appreciate the fact Kelly fought so hard on her music even though her label told her she wasn’t good enough to write her own songs. She stuck to her guns and put out the music she wanted. I don’t like neither of the clips I’ve heard, but so what. Kelly feels happy with her work, good for her. But if she ever wants to win awards again and sell a whole lot of albums, she might want to go back to just taking orders.
