Randy Jackson prediction shocker! Nah, I’m just playing. Wind Randy up, and he’ll begin spouting the usual predictable pre-Idol spin. Randy tells People magazine:
Male contestants have dominated American Idol for the past two seasons, but judge Randy Jackson, 53, predicts the upcoming year to be all about the ladies.
‘I think I have to give the edge going in to the girls,’ Jackson told PEOPLE at the Yahoo! Yodel Studio, one-day music event and yodeling extravaganza on Tuesday in New York City. ‘We haven’t had a girl winner in a long time and some interesting talented girls showed up [to audition.]‘
Jackson promises AI season 9, which is set to debut in January 2010 to be ‘a very interesting, different season.
Some interesting, talented girls have shown up? You don’t say! That the producers will be gunning for a girl to win American Idol this year is a no-brainer.
It’ll be interesting to see how the producers will manage to keep the boys at bay.
Somehow, while female Idols like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jordan Sparks sell records (singles in Jordin’s case), they don’t produce the wildly invested Idol fanbases necessary to spawn post Idol buzz and move summer concert tickets…

Jason was cannon fodder, the Kris of his season — they didn’t show him at all in the auditions or Hollywood week. Cook got a little bit of footage. More than Jason, at any rate. But, yeah, the general consensus after the audition episodes was that Michael Johns, Carly Smithson and David Archuleta were the ones to beat, and in the top 24, Luke Menard, the guy with the white streak (Jason something?), the one who looked liked Ellen DeGeneres, the one who looked like Leif Garrett, and Jason Castro were cannon fodder.
This season, the groups and the pimp spots made it clear that Danny, Adam and Lil were expected to be there at the end.
If Randy says going in that a girl will win, just like with Jordin and Fantasia, a girl will win. They will stack the deck however they need to, and the likes of Teen Martin, George Huff, John Peter Lewis and that Matt football guy will be the only boys to vote for. Which means everybody will be voting for girls.
I’m fine with a girl winning. I would love a girl who plays a musical instrument to win.
I don’t care about musical instruments. But I want a girl with an amazing voice and stage presence to win. Somebody like Kelly!
i am all for a strong female singer to come out of Idol again. Will be the first time in 2 summers I am not obsessing over autographs and affter party passes, and figuring out how to get the best tickets to Idol concerts. Besides, will prob still be busy with Adam, Cook, and Jason. LOL!
I don’t care if the winner is a guy or girl. I do care that the TOP 12 be good singers. Michael and Scott could have easily been two talented young ladies. They weakened the line-up, as did Megan and Lil.
So, if they are going for a girl winner, they could look for male contestants who are not as talented as the girls. Will AI go back to the 6/6 split for the TOP 12?
Right now, I am just not as excited for the season to begin as I was in the past.
Boy or girl – what matters is if he/she has an exceptional and amazing vocal capabilities and an arresting and charismatic performance skills. I do not want to suffer through a round of just okay aspiring stars.
I think there are more successful male music artists than females.Probably have to do with adoring female fans ?
If some truth in it, then women are the makers of amazing men.

Plus, if American Idol wants to continue with its strong revenue they might give some thought to what Newsweek had to say about Women as the new emerging market. So I think it might just be another men duo for the finals next year.
Newsweek:Women and The Economy
I 100% agree. I don’t care about musical instruments. I only want amazing, charismatic singers. Preferably female.
Best kind of fans, I think.
Count me as hoping to break the 3 season curse. The only female winner I liked was Kelly. All the other female contestants who’ve appealed to me were way too edgy for this show, Allison excluded. Maybe they’re finally beginning to understand the advantage of women who are “outside the box.”
I just want someone who is an artist. I’m not a fan of “range.” This show will never turn out the Mariah or Whitney. Make me feel something, and you’ve got me. Male or female.
It also turned out that Randy knew Jordin and her father quite well before the show. It’s one of those things that makes you go “hmm”, wondering whether his favoritism towards Jordin was just a matter of honest opinion or if there was something more underhanded going on. It’s one of the reasons why I started disliking Randy.
I was not aware of that. That is troublesome.
Yeah, apparently Jordin used to babysit Randy’s kids or something like that. I don’t know how accurate it is, but that was the rumor.
me too…someone like sheryl crow….
Based on all the peripheal stuff that surrounds idol, including the sponsorship by AT&T, I predict that it will be a girl from America’s heartland that is very straight arrow and generic with a great voice and little personality.
No matter what kind of pimping anyone gets or how the deck is stacked AI has evolved into a reality show that caters to the whims of its audience. No way is a Lady GaGa or Katy Perry Clone making it…I think we are in for a Taylor Swift clone…that seems to be the direction that the AI viewership demographics is headed.
I know I’m projecting here, but all of us have been amazed at how many people with real potential get scuttled by the viewers, especially in the early rounds. It’s pretty damn hard for anyone to succeed if their is bias in the heartland. The major reason that Carly and Michael Johns were thwarted was because they weren’t American kids, and many girls have been given the boot because they were too sexy or not sexy enough, or not pretty enough, or didn’t have the right body shape or weren’t representative of the “All american girl”.
I’ll just watch and enjoy next year and then will hang my star on the person I like regardless of how they finish. Winning Idol is not the Perfect path to stardom as past seasons have proven.
I think it is time for a final two that isn’t two guys. I also would rather see someone who doesn’t play a guitar win Season 9. I am hoping that introducing musical instruments doesn’t mean you have to play a guitar to win from now on.
‘
the pimping begins….man, do these people (judges, producers) ever learn their lesson??? im fearing for the”casting” of the male singers. like someone mentioned, they will make sure the male talent pool is weak so that the girls automatically look better. but then again, they didnt expect Kris Allen to win, so maybe they’ll get screwed again this yr.
