From the Hollywood Reporter, Tuesday’s ratings (ignore the headline in the article, the show wasn’t actually live, but taped over the weekend):
The two-hour “Idol” averaged 29.4 million viewers and an 11.7 rating/30 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary data released Wednesday by Nielsen Media Research. It built from 25.9 million viewers at 8 pm. to a peak of 31.3 million at 9 p.m. before falling slightly to 30.9 million for its last half hour. But its demo rating was a steady climb upward through the entire two hours, rising from a 10.0/27 at 8 p.m. to a 12.8/31 at 9:30 p.m.
“Idol” was the unquestioned winner between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. with an average 30.3 million viewers and a 12.2 rating/31 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary data released Thursday by Nielsen Media Research. Wednesday’s telecast was up 3% in the demo compared to Tuesday.
On Thursday, Idol won it’s time slot, but not the night. Grey’s Anatomy won the evening:
“Grey’s” averaged 27.3 million viewers and an 11.6 rating/27 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary data released Friday by Nielsen Media Research.
“Grey’s” won not only the 9 p.m. hour but also the night in all major categories, which is a real accomplishment given the fact that “American Idol” made its first enchroachment into Thursday so far this season.It was the first time so far this season that “American Idol” wasn’t the biggest thing on TV, although the first night of four cuts still dominated its 8 p.m. time period and dampened ratings for its rivals. “Idol” averaged 24.2 million viewers and a 9.0/23 in the demo, easily dismissing CBS’ “Survivor: Fiji” (13.6 million, 4.6/12) plus NBC’s “My Name Is Earl” (8.7 million, 3.6/10) and “The Office” (8.2 million, 4.2/10), which seemed to suffer to varying degrees. “Survivor” took the biggest hit, down from the 16.1 million and 5.6/15 it had when it premiered last week. “The Office” was close to last week’s 4.4 in adults 18-49.

Upcoming AI appearances
Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler will all appear on American Idol this season. Underwood will sing her current hit, “Wasted,” on March 8 during her second performance on the show since winning the competition in 2005. No specific dates have been announced for McBride and Pickler’s appearances. McBride is one of nine celebrity coaches who will work with the contestants. She will also perform on the show. In addition, Pickler will return for the first time since she was a finalist last year. All three artists record for the country division of the RCA Label Group.
Pickler said Thursday in a radio interview in Knoxville that she will be on the show next week to sing “I Wonder,” her ballad about growing up without her mother
The singers may be a bit boring this year but the stories behind aren’t. There are new pictures that are allegedly Antonella performing a rather explicit sex act but I don’t think they are her. Someone is cashing in on someone who looks like her. The face is very close but the body and end of nose are wrong. She was a silly girl to ever set herself up for this if she knew pictures like this existed. So much for her friends. JMO.
However, got to see the idol shows at last on tv here. I always look forward to it having read everything I can prior to viewing. I usually find that most singers don’t live up to the hype if they’ve been good, or I don’t find the clunkers as bad as everyone says. This week it was pretty spot on with all assessments, bar one or two. I thought Alaina was WORSE than anyone suggested, that was just awful and she should have been the first to go. At least Amy sang in tune albeit a snorefest. I would have liked to have heard Nicole sing something else as her voice was different. After several divaesque singers I didn’t know how Lakisha was going to live up to the hype, could I stand another? Unbelievably, she didn’t, she exceeded it!! Wow, I don’t even like that song or that style but she was amazing. She’ll have a hard time topping that. That may be her moment on stage.
Ok, reviews being beaten to death, something that is a little different. As it has been stated before, we get idol extras here to fill the hour you get in ads. For our sins, we get the beautiful but vacuous Cat Deely doing her thing. It is painful most of the time but it was interesting this week as she interviewed everyone before and after they went on, so we get a closer look as to what some of these contestants are like. I will try to get a tv card for the computer so I can capture some and upload them. I won’t bore with all the contestants, but a few stand out.
Gina - man, ATTITUDE!! Less they show of her and more of her singing better for her. Not likeable at all. Still banging on about how Simon was wrong. She is full of herself and has annointed herself TCO
Melinda- what a sweetie! I was beginning to question whether the shy coyness could be an act but if it is, she desserves an Oscar. She seems like such a genuine humble nice person
Alaina - weepy whingey whiney wet. Go home!! Boo hoo, the judges cut her heart out, how could they. Get over it, you sucked!
Lakisha - hard not to like this girl! She comes across really well and a bit bewildered about it all. Doin’ what comes naturally in the nicest way.
Sundance - have you got a brain? I think his stupid comments come from the fact he ain’t very bright!!
Sanjaya - cute giggly shy teen, more overwhelmed talking to the beautiful Cat than performing I think.
Sorry I can’t remember too many of the guys as they were on first and it was all three shows this week back to back.
Idoled out by the end of it!
Anyway, I will try to see if I can capture some of these, they are getting more exposure than they do with Ryan or the series. If anyone is interested, I’ll do more for the upcoming weeks. I didn’t record the show, it is being shown again Sunday night so I can look again if there is someone anyone is particularly interested in.
There are ones that are much worse than that, Gary. I thought they probably were her but who knows? If they are, she should be disqualified since Frenchie was.
I wonder if the lower ratings for Idol this week are a reflection of the boredom this group of Idols generate. Really, there is nothing unique about them. If Lakisha were the only diva she, perhaps, would be unique. But there are upward of 4 divas (possibly 5) and a faux diva in the person of Gina Glockson. Is Gina going to be this year’s Brenna Gethers? I would love to see her go home pronto. I was afraid after a group like Season 5 that the competition this year woiuld be pale in comparison and I was right.
Those are still great ratings. If you look at other shows, they’d love to get that many viewers. The kickoff show at this point is the 5th hour of the week and not as exciting as later on so I wouldn’t read too much into it. They still beat everyone in their time slot. Grey’s Anatomy is a big hit and was in the 3rd part of a huge storyline so not surprising they won the night.
Those pictures are definitely her. One site took a picture of her from Idol and placed it side by side of one of the other pics leaked yesterday, and it was identical.
So unless she’s got an identical twin sister that even she doesn’t know about, the pics are her, and she should be disqualified. I don’t care if she wasn’t paid for them, that is NOT the kind of girl I want my teenage neices looking up to.
Message to Idol. Stay the hell away from Grey’s Anatomy. You’ll lose every time.
geekygirl, I like your reviews. See if you can review Chris Sligh post interviews. He has a good sense of humor. It will have to carry him because I thought he kind of stunk last week.
