Here’s an article from USA Today about the American Idol country success stories which include Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Bucky Covington and Josh Gracin.  Considering the popularity of the genre, it’s hard to believe there were NO country singers in this year’s Top 24…

Entertainment Weekly just posted video interviews from the Top 7 from its recent cover story on the Idols.

Ohhhh, Idol’s hectic schedule exposed!  In other words, the Idol publicist sent this over, and now we are posting as if it were some sort of super-sekrit information.

An American Idol film crew was recently in Eastern Kentucky filming at an elementary school for next week’s big Idol Gives Back charity special.

And finally, later on this evening, tune into Late Night with David Letterman on CBS.  Dave Tella Terza from Vote for the Worst will be Dave’s special guest!  There better be a trip report, that’s all I’m sayin’…

Well, thanks for the “potential” spoilers…I’ve been anticipating this show since the beginning. There isn’t a single contestant that you could put any kind of “country” label on, so I think tonight’s songs will sound very disturbing and off, certainly not the way they are intended to be sung. I must admit, that not liking Sanjaya is part of my daily life, but I AM ECSTATIC to see him do Boot Scootin’ Boogie - I really hope that one is true!!! Will the line dance that goes with the song be performed as well (I swear, the boy is soooooooooo skinny, I’d be afraid that his legs might break like toothpicks if he gets too wild tonight!)???

I must admit, Sanjaya and Jordin’s songs are the only ones I’ve ever heard before - it’s going to be hard to judge tonight I think. Anybody could be going home tomorrow - just my prediction.

MJ, someone on IDF just posted that Blake’s friend says his “spoiled” song choice is wrong.

  3. 3 pj Apr 17th, 2007 at 4:18 pm

LB2, I just saw that. Then someone posted this link to a the site of someone Jordin used to tour with and he has her number as 02, which indicates she’s going second.

    Hmm.

Can’t wait to see what Sanjaya is wearing tonight. Leather fringed vest? {Assless- ha!} chaps? Should be outstanding entertainment, especially if the spoiler is true :)

  5. 5 SODF Apr 17th, 2007 at 4:20 pm

LB2, that’s too bad, because Blake’s choice was potentially a good one for him, IMO.

Melinda and Lakisha have chosen good songs, if this list is true. We’ll see what the performances are like.

Rest of the field - hmmn. Not a fan of Jordin’s or Phil’s picks, though who knows what they’ll do with them.

    Sanjaya - bless his heart.

SODF - I have to disagree with your assumption that Jordin will do poorly with that song. I think it’s a PERFECT choice for her, it has a “young” feeling to it, which is what she should try and stick with. I can’t really comment on the Melinda/LaKisha choices because I’ve never heard of any of these songs. In fact I went ITunes just to hear a snippit, and that didn’t help. All I learned is that LaKisha’s song is a ballad, and Melinda’s is VERY bluesy, so she got really lucky that song was on the list. I listened to the song Phil is singing (don’t know it either), and from what I heard, the song is VERY country (singer was “twanging” all over the place), so I don’t know how he’ll sing it.

Like I said before, I am SOOOOOOO looking forward to the potential “fiasco” of country night - we all thought latin night was bad………..YEE HAAAA!!

I dont know.. doesnt this mean they all but guarantee Jordin that she’ll survive this week? Maybe they are so certain that Phil’s gone this week?

  8. 8 beesims Apr 17th, 2007 at 4:44 pm

I am wondering if Sanjaya will be turning Brooks and Dunn’s twang to a TWISPER.

  9. 9 FOTIAI Apr 17th, 2007 at 4:53 pm

widjayaman - I think everyone knows that they put these things out there just to cause more drama - no one ever knows for sure what happens behind the scenes. It may be that Jordin herself decided that she wanted to sing that song next week, if she was still around, because it fits with the heartfelt sentiment that AI is trying to give with it’s special episode.

Anyway, do you honestly think that Jordin is in potential danger tonight? IMO, it could be anyone going home tomorrow; we’ve gotten down to the singers and Sanjaya (buttless chaps and a Twisper - HA HA), so at this point, it’s anyone’s game, but I think that Jordin has the fans to pull her through - if I HAD TO make a guess, I think Phil or Chris R. may lose out this week (if I HAD the chance to choose - Sanjaya would be going home, the farce needs to be over). :wallbash_tb:

FOTIAI, I haven’t made any assumption that Jordin will perform poorly (as I said: “who knows what they’ll do with them” - ie, their choices). I just don’t like the song she has chosen.

  11. 11 FOTIAI Apr 17th, 2007 at 5:04 pm

Glad to hear that SODF, and I’m sorry if I misinterpreted your post. I don’t listen to country music at all, but I do know that song because it crossed-over to the Top 40 stations, which I do tend to listen to on occassion, and that’s the real reason I think it works for Jordin, she’s only 17, she certainly shouldn’t be singing a Loretta Lynn or June-Carter Cash number - wouldn’t you agree with that?

I really think the song will fit her voice and style nicely, I can’t say that about any of the other contestants (mostly because I’ve never heard of most of the songs) - it should be an interesting show for sure.

    MJ

Considering the popularity of the genre, it’s hard to believe there were NO country singers in this year’s Top 24…

Blame it on the judges. There was one great country singer ( his second attempt ) who almost made it to the end but was cut. I’m talking about Matt Buckstein the singing cowboy. He, Marissa Rhodes and Tami Gosnell should have made the top 24.

  13. 13 SODF Apr 17th, 2007 at 5:23 pm

    FOTIAI, no problem at all.

The best country music songs are story telling songs, and most of the stories are best suited to older singers with more life experience. You make an excellent point that as a 17 year old, Jordin has to pick carefully - as you say, most of the classics by Loretta Lynn or Patsy Cline or June Carter Cash, et al, would seem odd coming from a 17 year old. In fact, as I think of the lyrics of “You’re Still the One,” I’m not sure they are ideal for a 17 year old either, but I see your point about the more youthful feel of the music. Jordin may do fine with it. BTW, I like Jordin and certainly don’t wish her ill.

(Just think what Jordin might make of the Dixie Chicks’ “Travelling Soldier” - a song that could be devastatingly effective coming from a 17 year old -if sung poignantly and without affectation. However, because the Dixie Chicks are political poison to half the audience, that would be risky. She’s probably better off with a lightweight Shania tune, if the goal is to stay alive another week.)

BTW, “Concrete Angel” is a ballad, but it’s a beautiful and subtle one about an abused child. Really moving when Martina performs it. I’m sure Lakisha chose it for the soaring vocal line, but it’ll be interesting to see if she can interpret it effectively. If she pulls the song off, it could help change people’s minds about her, as the chief knock on her seems to be that her performances are big but affectless.

  14. 14 Shannon Apr 17th, 2007 at 5:29 pm

I am not sure how Jordin will do with her song. I was really hoping she would sing something a little younger sounding like Taylor Swift’s “Tim McGraw” - oh well!

  15. 15 GlitterGlow21 Apr 17th, 2007 at 5:33 pm

Im excited for tonight. I love country music…being from TN and all…and I think it’s a great genre to showcase who truly has talent and who doesnt. Those who are able to relay the sentiment and feelings that country brings through will do well, those who cant…will fall flat.

  16. 16 St.Lucia Apr 17th, 2007 at 6:05 pm

Oh please, oh PLEASE even if none of these rumors are true let “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” be true for Sanjaya. That would totally crack me up entirely! What would be even funnier is if he attempted to DO the Boot Scootin’ Boogie!

I’d be one happier camper if I saw this performance happen.

Spoiler Update: A couple of sources have stated that this list is, indeed, incorrect.

    Back to surprises!
