Check out TV Squad’s posts on the rumored lists of Top 12 girls and Top 12 boys.
Mainstream media has picked up on the spoilers this year, like they never have before. I think the lid came off when MTV posted their story based Joesplace’s spoilers and the Vote For The Worst articles on Idol professionals. Usually, when one outlet starts the ball rolling, others follow…
Now that we are near the end of the audition process, what do you think so far about the contestants who have supposedly made it…and those who didn’t? Are you disappointed? Happy? Don’t give a crap?
I’ve got my list of the Rumored Top 24 right here.

‘Scuse me but where the hell is Leo whats his name? The gay guy with the great personality and a terrific voice? Damn, now who am I gonna get behind?
No one else really appealed to me in the auditions but its early I suppose and I should give them all a chance but in other seasons I had 2 and 3 standouts, people who appealed to me personally for different reasons.
There were a LOT of great voices in the auds but so what, lots of people can sing, its the combination of personality and voice and can you keep my attention long enough for me to care that matters.
OMG I may have to root for Luke Menard after seeing those chapter 6 videos; LOL.
ETA: Hi dingo!
I really liked Joey Cantalano and Leo Marlowe, but at this point I am just ready for HOLLYWOOD!!!! My very favorite part of the show.
I think there are a lot of good singers in the top 24 that they have not shown us yet (DUH!), so I’ll reserve judgement until then.
So far, from the ones they have shown us, I like David Cook. I have to admit that all of the Blondes pretty much merge together for me.
I’ve been watching some of AI rewind — Juanita “All About the Chirrun” Barber and Jennifer “DANCE!” Fuentes. I sure hope someone gives this year’s crop a good long lecture about song choice … or not because, let’s face it– that’s TV gold.
I thought TV Squad made an excellent point–that when you raise the age limit, it’s less likely you’re going to find someone totally “fresh.” Most people that try to make it do so in their teens and 20s.
Seems like there is more “raw” talent with the boys than the girls this year. I don’t have a favorite yet, I’ll have to wait a few weeks, but I do love a cappella performances so Luke Menard is an early favorite for me!
Yeah, awesome clips of Luke Menard there. I guess it doesn’t hurt that he looks like Orlando Bloom!
Kristy Lee Cook was singed by Artista Nashville and was going to have Britney appear in the video. She also was managed by the same person as Lean Rhymes..(It is old news)
A handful of the so called pros made it threw but so did some others which is good. David A is a nice looking young guy I wonder if Disney will pick him up.
I am on the fence with this saeon waiting for buzz from the top 24 still upset that I owe pj a case a beer with probably another one on the way…Darn you AI.
I’m so mad Leo is not on that 24 spoiler list! What on earth could have happened in Hollywood? On the other hand, I really like David A, David Cook and David Hernandez! How funny.. all Davids.. LOL
Exactly. The age of professional Idol contestants really started with Season 4, when they raised the age limit. This is nothing new…
Some impressions :
Syesha Mercado looks like an AI “pre-selection” based on her background. In other words, the producers might have known her in the past from her commercials and other brief acting stints plus her being in THE ONE.
I don’t have to mention the other plant(s) — Carly “Hennesey” Smithson and Kristy Lee Cook. There was IMHO every intent to sign these ladies but the risk managers and bean counters of TPTB reckon that it would be best to “expose” them first to the public via this wildly popular show in order for them to garner a fan base. You know — pre-introduce them before making the records to ensure wider recognition.
BTW, did you know (if you don’t already ) that Wikipedia tells us here , that a guy named Thomas Lowe was removed from competition last season after a successful audition in which Cowell appeared flustered. He was later removed from competition because it was publicized that he had been signed to BMG while Cowell was at the label. If you wanna know who Thomas Lowe was, see here.
I remembered his audition (I think)… he was the guy who attended Harvard University. If fact, Lowe sang “How Deep Is Your Love” together with Blake Lewis ( beatboxing his way to the finals), Rudy Cardenas and Chris Sligh during the Hollywood auditions.
Now, if Lowe was disqualified, I wonder why Carly isn’t… maybe it’s because Simon isn’t connected to her label ??
This season looks somewhat “contrived” to me.
Even before then, as early as season 1, there were people on Idol with experience from other TV shows (often more recent ones too)…
I love that picture of Brooke White! Joanne looks like Beyonce to me.
My favorites aren’t in here so now at least I can go into the season without prejudices… or maybe I should just pick a boytoy to ogle at! *waggles eyes towards Luke*
Brooke White is the prototypical down-on-her-luck musician ( and would you believe her when she said she never watched an R- rated movie ? I think I might be gullible enough, after all, she’s a Mormon ).
She is the female version of the hard working singer who is trying to make her dreams come true but never gets a break. She tried ( left Arizona for LA), gave up ( went back home), and then tried again ( went back to California and became a Nanny to support her passion for music). This might be her break. Now, this is someone you can root for.
She, like Taylor Hicks before her, had an indie album — SONGS FROM THE ATTIC which has a few good songs. She even made a video out of a single entitled — FREE.
I wonder why they cut the other Asian Neyshia Go and took in Ramiele Malubay instead…. I was quite impressed with the two videos I saw of Neyshia on YOUTUBE singing the National Anthem at a baseball game and wowing the crowd at the Apollo Theater at 14 with her version of Aretha’s Natural Woman.
From Neyshia’s name ( and having lived and worked in Asia for a few years ), I’d say she’s a Filipina of Chinese descent ( Go is a Southern Chinese family name ).
Maybe Simon doesn’t like her as she is too “precocious” ?
Hell, I’m still bitter about Tom Lowe not making the Top 24 and making the Top 40 so he couldn’t try out again.
I’ve watched from the beginning, but now I’m suffering from major Idol fatigue. There are about 4 or 5 in that list that I like well enough, but I just can’t be arsed to care. mj, are the only doing 1 Hollywood episode like last year? I miss the days of several H-wood episodes- to me, that’s the most interesting part of the process.
Exactly. I am already rooting against Carly. I’m not so much disturbed at the failed record as I am that she’s Irish. It’s American Idol, not In-America-On-A-Visa Idol.
Other than that, the more I think about it, the more I don’t care about the “plants.” They’re easy to spot and I would be shocked if one of them won–there are far too many spoilers out there. I think the American public will not be fooled by this.
Yeah, 1 2-hour Hollywood episode, and then a separate episode to pick the Top 24.
I agree, I wish Hollywood was longer…
Is the two hour Hollywood episode Tuesday and then the top 24 pick on Wednesday? I thought we were getting into the three night part
I’m not particularly excited by anyone yet (aside from an initial “Oooh, pretty!” reaction to Michael Johns). It’s too early to choose, since I’m still not entirely sure who’s going to be cannon fodder (although I’m pretty sure the kid who looks like Leif Garrett on a bad hair day is probably not TCO)
Watching a bunch of youtube videos on these guys didn’t help. The abundance of teens and “rockers” makes me think they want America’s next top Jonas Brother and America’s next top Chris Daughtry to make it far. David Cook has the best rock voice, IMO, but he’s going to need new hair, stat! (or, of course, no hair at all)
As usual, I’m not paying any attention to the girls. I’m thankful that Carly is in mix because without her, there would be no Carlyplant photochop thread on VFTW. Other than that, I don’t care which Carrie clone or cute little screamy girl succeeds.
I like the list, very good potential contenders from what I’ve seen.
I am just pissed Colton Swon didn’t make it. He would have been the perfect male star for country. I guess they did not want any country this year just a lot of rockers…
Oh well, I hope Colton gets another opportunity with his music somewhere else.
LOL cheese. That is a good thread on VFTW.
Jason Yeager is Country. He was a finalist on Making the Band. He’s pretty too….lol
I’m pretty sure that Luke Menard was shown briefly at the end of the Omaha auditions, getting his ticket and hugging his wife. Maybe they’ll show him in the last audition show.
Thanks for posting the list, MJ. I hope it’s true that he made the top 24 and hope he does well. I really like Chapter 6. All the guys have great voices.
I won’t really know how I feel until I see the real top 24. Some mighty good potential top 24 material seems to be absent from the spoilers. As someone else said, I don’t really care about the women, I am more interested in the guys at this point; they at least don’t all look alike. But the main thing on my agenda is whether Idol is going to disclose the truth about the plants. Or are we still supposed to believe that dear, sweet little Kristy sold her little pony (sob, sob) for airfare to the competition. That really bothers me and also Hennessey-Smithson bothers me; why don’t these people that want to become an American Idol have the decency to apply for citizenship.
There is a 5 year residency requirement rule for green card holders before they cac become citizens. Carly Smithson just got her green card recently, so she has to wait till maybe 2011 or 2012 to become full fledged American ( that is, if she ever applies for citizenship ).
If she wins this, she will be the first Irish American Idol ( and note I did not say Irish-American). In fact I should say, she’d be the first FOREIGN American Idol.
no Leo
He was my fav of the guys so far, sweet personality, awesome voice I wanted to hear more about him! Some of these boys and girls all too shiny teen pop to me, and the plants from the girls don’t excite me in the least. Still hoping for a little magic from someone in the mix..bring on hollywood, baby
They seem to have shown us a lot more backstory on people that didn’t advance. Or is that just my imagination?
I love the Carlyplant photochops on VFTW. That shot of her eyes bugging out when Simon dissed her is priceless, and even better because it reflects her complete and utter disbelief that he would dare criticize her. Love it.
I was surprised at how much I liked Robbie C (the Britney ex-boyfriend). I got one of my “feelings” about him - I think he’s gonna be around for a while. Could he be “my” Idol this year?
I liked Leo too. Sorry he’s not on the list. Hope it’s wrong!
Yeah, but I prefer much more Colton. He was my favorite since I saw him. His songs on his myspace are impressive. I really can’t believe they did not put him through. His voice is perfect for the country scene. Oh well… As I said, I hope he finds success somewhere else.
Girls are all right. We have a Missy Elliot, a Carrie Underwood, and a Jessica Alba. Lot of diversity.. How can you go wrong with that? LOL
Guys? I don’t know. Several of them look too gay to me. Not that there is anything wrong with it. LOL.. And several are too geeky and “precocious”….
Cheese, I absolutely agree with you! Also, I like what I have seen of Robbie C. I don’t mean to offend anyone, but from what I have seen and heard, both guys sound better than Chris Daughtry.
Little Boy Blue, I am enjoying your posts and point of view.
I don’t want to see Carly Hennessey-Smithson anywhere near the TOP 12. Since AI has not given completely accurate backstories, I hope the American public becomes well informed. We are in on it; most don’t understand script, editing, and manipulations!
He could have tanked in the later rounds. The initial auditions are only part of the big picture.
I was away for a while and caught up on a few episodes yesterday. So far I really like the guys more than the girls.
I got that feeling, too. Loved everything about him. He was very cute and I really enjoyed his voice.
Interesting that people are still talking about Tom Lowe. He was one of the few openly gay contestants who made it to the Hollywood round. And it looks like the trend continues with Leo that no openly gay contestants make it any further.
They havent shown Jason on AI yet though…he’s REALLY good.
