Ryan Tedder Denies Collaborations with David Cook and David Archuleta

Those rumors of collaborations between OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder and David Cook and David Archuleta? Not gonna happen. Tedder recently told ABC News Radio that the rumors are running rampant, but they’re just not true:

“No, there are all these rumors swirling about me, and, us and American Idols. And it even says on Wikipedia that I’m working with David Cook and Archuleta. I have not worked with either of them, and I don’t have either of them on the schedule.”

Scratch Ryan Tedder off the list, peeps.

The band OneRepublic released “Apologize”, one of this year’s huge hits. Tedder co-wrote the Leona Lewis mega-hit “Bleeding Love” with Jesse McCartney (who will soon go out on tour with Jordin Sparks–ahh the connections!). He also collaborated with Blake Lewis on several cuts from his debut album Audio Day Dream, including the ill-fated single, “Break Anotha”.

Yay! That’s one less pop-flavored songwriter in the mix. Now, lets disprove the Jesse McCartney rumor, too. :)

Actually, Ryan Tedder’s stuff with HIS band, OneRepublic, is more pop/rock. Listening to that album, and especially listening to them live, I could see where he would go if he was working with DC. Anyway, for me, it’s not a “yay” at all that he’s not working with them. Two of the BIGGEST songs this year have been of his creation - “Apologize” and “Bleeding Love.” I’d think that DC and DA would be hugely grateful to have that happen for them.

    I’m kinda disappointed, actually.

Wow Ryan Tedder lies! A fan went to his concert and PERSONALLY asked him if he was working with David Archuleta. He said he was and was pretty sure some would make it to his album! I guess David A didn’t like his songs?

Ryan sent one song for Archie to listen but he didn’t take it. They can always collaborate in the future.

It’s all right. Ryan is the one wrote on most of Blake Lewis’s flop album. Not all his songs are hits.

  5. 5 GwendolynD Jul 14th, 2008 at 11:38 am

Unless that fan has some sort of documentation, it’s still a rumor.

I’m glad he cleared that up. I’m like you, Sarah. I would have loved to see what he could have put together for DC.

  6. 6 Pam Jul 14th, 2008 at 11:52 am

I with Gwen and Sarah on this. I wish the Tedder rumor had been true in Cookie’s case and even Archie’s but especially Cookie. It would have been interest to see what he would have come up with.

I’m with Holly about Jesse. Let’s now prove that one false. :laugh_tb:

If you want to split hairs, he actually never says that he hasn’t written songs with them in mind. He just says that he hasn’t worked with them and doesn’t have current plans to. It could be that he’s written something and nothing has come of it yet.

It is strange, though, because there was an audio interview where Archie mentions Ryan having written a song for him to hear, and then he goes on to talk about how Ryan and Cook get along well because they both have Oklahoma ties. He gave the impression that those 2 were working together in some fashion.

  8. 8 frogcooke Jul 14th, 2008 at 12:19 pm

YEah there is a youtube video of Archie saying that he sent him a song to listen too.

Here’s a strange turn of events….Chris Daughtry just posted a blog on daughtryofficial talking about the writing they’ve been doing and said that Ryan Tedder is one of people they’ve worked with:

I’m also writing with some other people that I totally respect as writers and artists such as Ryan Tedder (One Republic) ,and my good friend Emerson Hart (Tonic)

and then he goes on to talk about how Ryan and Cook get along well because they both have Oklahoma ties. He gave the impression that those 2 were working together in some fashion.

I sort of think that was mainly wishful thinking by fans. Archie really only said Cook and Tedder got along and had more in common, I don’t think he was implying they were working together.
Also - David Cook was interviewd somewhere (sorry, too many interviews to remember which one this was) and when asked about Tedder gave a polite response, but nothing that would indicate there was any truth to the rumor. I remember thinking - OK, no Tedder collaboration.

This thread is a riot. Imagine having to deny something like this?

  12. 12 Michelle Jul 14th, 2008 at 12:37 pm

I’m just trying to remember now why I was so certain there was a collab in the first place! Goes to show how easy it is to start rumors, I guess…

I’m sure you’re right. We just hear what we want to hear (or what we think we’ve heard already).

  15. 15 Hisaki Jul 14th, 2008 at 12:46 pm

Well, damn. I was interested to see what Tedder would have come up with for both Davids. *sigh* Oh well.

Don’t know where this should go but awesome vocals today by Archie on Utah Live..

Jesse McCartney is indeed co-headlining a tour with Jordin.

It would have been interesting to hear what would have come out of a Cook/Tedder collaboration. Either way, I’m pretty confident Cook will have great songs in his record. As for Archie and Tedder, I haven’t heard the Archie interview so I don’t know what to say about that. Either way, while Tedder is fast becoming one of the sought after songwriters/producers out there, there are people who are still better than he is. It’s just that his is the name that’s hot right now.

  19. 19 hollygo9 Jul 14th, 2008 at 1:45 pm

Whichever way, I’m sure that DavidC will still shine through. Look at what he did to Magic Rainbows. The magic, David darling, is in you.

(Still hoping her fangirl heart that Cookie is collabing with Jack White)

I just heard David’s Crazy elsewhere……awesome, doesn’t disappoint. This child is mad talented.

I love the speculation it makes waiting for the cd to drop a little more interesting. It happens every year. What is true is that both cds will have some interesting writers. Let’s just see if they work for the artist.

  21. 21 Virgii5 Jul 14th, 2008 at 2:10 pm

I think Tedder sent him a song or two, and David didn’t like it so much, so Tedder is trying to shoot it all down as a rumor… notice he says he never worked “with them”… but he doesn’t need to work “with them” to send them music he has written. And no they’re not on his schedule b/c they said no, there’s nothing to schedule. Is this Tedder’s ego that is talking?

  22. 22 ealbino Jul 14th, 2008 at 2:11 pm

abbysee - the link I gave above is for David’s crazy on youtube and there’s also one for Waiting on the world to change if you’re interested.

Oddly, one purveyor of the Tedder rumor was Jesse McCartney, in a Rolling Stone interview that was posted here back in May:

    Rollingstone

Jesse McCartney is known for being a child actor, pop dreamboat and consistently the most celebrated person at the Kids Choice Awards. But he’s also half the brains behind last year’s highest-grossing song in the U.K., Leona Lewis‘ sultry ballad “Bleeding Love,” and the owner of two Number One singles, a platinum record and a rack of Radio Disney trophies that would make Miley Cyrus jealous. Not bad for a dude who started out balancing soap opera roles with a tap-dancing boy band (Wiki search: Dream Street. Hilarious.) Rock Daily stopped by McCartney’s release party for Departure at New York’s Marquee last night and learned McCartney has good reason to be psyched that David Cook won American Idol. “Ryan [Tedder of OneRepublic] and I are planning to write some songs with him for his album,” he said. So does he have any regrets about giving “Bleeding Love” (which he also penned with Tedder) away? “No, no,” he said. “I’m so happy for Leona. She deserves it. There are really no bad feelings.”

  24. 24 mj Jul 14th, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Tedder’s stock has risen a lot since “Apologize” and “Bleeding Love” became massive hits this year. I would imagine he’s very much in demand at this point.

It makes sense that he’s agreed to work with the mega platinum Daughtry. However, working with Idol winners, who haven’t proven themselves as artists–low on his totem pole at this point in time, I imagine.

It makes sense to me, quite frankly.

  25. 25 abbysee Jul 14th, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Ealbino, thanks. I’ve already downloaded Crazy and seen Waiting as well. Good stuff!

I guess we will have to wait and see who gets writing credit on DAUGHTRY, Cook, and Archuleta’s cd.

  26. 26 Virgii5 Jul 14th, 2008 at 2:49 pm

    MJ,
But what about all the talk directly from Tedder to an Archie that he was writing music for Archuleta and was hopeful one would make his album?

  27. 27 mj Jul 14th, 2008 at 2:58 pm

But what about all the talk directly from Tedder to an Archie that he was writing music for Archuleta and was hopeful one would make his album?

Now, this is how rumors start, isn’t it?

That was Archie who told a fan that Tedder was writing music for him, NOT Tedder.

  28. 28 Michelle Jul 14th, 2008 at 2:59 pm

Nice find, Lucy - I knew we’d heard it *somewhere* reputable. I guess nothing came of it, oh well.

  29. 29 dv Jul 14th, 2008 at 3:02 pm

Oh thats a shame, I was hoping for something from Ryan on both of Davids albums.
So Ryan might have work on the up coming Kelly and Chris new albums.

  30. 30 IGetCranked Jul 14th, 2008 at 3:12 pm

I’m not surprised by this at all after listening to David A’s interview a few days ago. I did think Tedder was working with Cook though. darn.

  31. 31 DivaE Jul 14th, 2008 at 3:18 pm

remember- Tedder also wrote the lead single off Clay’s new album “On My Way Here”. He’s come quite a long way since his first tv appearance on SYTYCD last year- a myspace phenom!

  32. 32 Dlynne Jul 14th, 2008 at 3:41 pm

These rumors have been rampant since the finale. I wonder why it took Ryan so long to make a public statement about it.

  33. 33 jpfan Jul 14th, 2008 at 3:55 pm

Shopping today I heard one of Kat’s songs played and for a minute couldn’t recognize the artist. I did like the voice a lot and then I realized who it was. And I started to wonder why she didn’t make hits. It’s so tough to make it in music even with everything going for you so who knows how well any of them will do. Sometimes the ones who make it do so with the most generic material out there. So I just hope Archie and Cook can put out some music they’re proud of and don’t worry too much about cranking out the hits.

There’s tons of songs that they submit and even record that don’t make the albums. And I doubt we’ll ever get the true story about Tedder and the two Davids. There was a story posted here about Tedder making fun of Archie at the finale. Maybe Archie read it and passed on Tedder (just kidding. I’m sure the label is making most/all of the decisions for him.)

I’m the one who posted the story, and he wasn’t making fun of DA. He was making fun of Debbie the stage manager and the situation with 1R’s appearance on the finale. And the fact that our concert was one of the ones that had to be postponed due to said appearance.
