Check out the Countdown clock peeps! Isn’t it awesome? Ok, I’ll admit, it’s a little pathetic. But, I have to say, I’m totally ready for Season 6. Here we go…
American Idol Season 6 premiers Tuesday, January 16 on FOX with a two-hour audition episode starting at 8 pm. Another 2 hour episode follows on Wednesday January 17. There hasn’t been word yet which audition city will be featured first–for some reason TPTB keep that secret right up to the start of the show.
It’s rumored that on Monday, January 15, the day before the premier, the contestants will gather in the “Gold Room” of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium to film what’s come to be known as “The Green Mile”.
From 10 am to 4 pm on the day of the eliminations, the contestants will be whittled down from 40 to the final 24. One-by-one they’ll be brought up–via elevator, and then a long walk (the “green mile”) down a hallway to the “Gold Room”. There, they’ll find out from the judges if they get a spot in the Top 24 and an opportunity to compete on TV for a spot in the Top 12.
You can check out some pictures of the Pasadena Civic Center here and a picture of the Gold Room here.
thanks Idol Maniac

Thanks for the update on Season 6, MJ. I am ready for it, too. I enjoyed Season 5 more than any prior season, and got invested enough to vote for the first time. I’ll be following Taylor and some of the other finalists for a long time, I hope, but I am eager for the next season to start.
This is my first post at the new site, and it looks great. Congratulations, MJ, and as always, thanks for keeping the blog going.
If I am first here, this’ll be the first time I was ever first in an MJ thread…..
Oh and BTW - so all the Top 40 performances were done back in November, and they make the kids wait until Jan 15 to find out if they’re in the semis? Man, this show has made an art form out of non-physical torture.
The 40 who emerged out of the Hollywood rounds - are they evenly split between guys and girls? Anyone know? Thanks.
Hey, so I already hate that Pia girl. Too much melisma, too trained, too concerned about her image. She’s the new McPhee!
Racella’s a bit rawer. She’s got some potential.
Approximately when will they begin to broadcast competition between the top 24?
If you happen to catch the January 8-14 edition of TV Guide, go to page 8.
It talks about the future of American Idol. They predict a DROP in the ratings compared to last year.
Their reasoning is that there are good shows competing on the same time slot.
My personal feeling is this — It’s hard to top the talent that Season 5 provided.
In fact every season’s talent became better and better culminating in Season 5 ( for me the one loaded with the most talent ).
Once the best are found, it’s going to be hard to improve on it. But then, we’ll see this season.
Thanks for the update, MJ. I think Pia sounds too much like Katharine — one is more than enough.
So why does Racella list “Someday We’ll All be Free” as Alicia Keyes — thought that was Hathaway?
I think Pia is gorgeous, and I love her voice.
It will depend on her personality if she’s just another Kat.
Personality was, to me, was Kat’s big down fall.
*squirms in seat*
I can’t wait!
looks like I’ll be cheering for the boys again!
Very anxious for the new season to begin. I am going to start watching from the beginning this year after having watched only the TOP 12 and on for the first five years. I’m hoping for enough talent to hold my interest.
Kat,
How you do you know she is trained? Personally, her rcordings sound great to me. At least wait until you see an actual performance before you start hating someone. There is obviously a big difference between a recording and a live performance. For instance, Taylor’s and Bo’s live performances rock to me, but others may sound better with a recording.

I have a hard time believing that Racella is still involved with the show, as she does have a show scheduled for January 20…obviously after the show starts. Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think they are still playing shows then…I think they can play up until the show starts, but not after, right?
Also, I’m not a fan of Pia so much, but maybe it’s just me. I’m not much of a chick singer fan anyway…but maybe Pia could be the next McPhee?
So, I just got talking to that Pia girl, she was cut during HollyWood Week. I’m sure some of you are glad to know you won’t be seeing much of her.

I don’t know that she is trained, she just SOUNDS trained. And generally I’m not a fan of that kind of sound.
However, as with Katharine, her personality would be the downfall for me. If she were just a gorgeous girl with a lovely singing voice that I didn’t care for, I wouldn’t have any animosity toward her. So perhaps I was premature in getting my hate on. Sorry about that! ;-)
