Jason has been giving some good interviews. I miss him already and did suggest Bob Dylan be invited to sing with Jason at the finale. His future will be up to him. I expect a guest performance somewhere, maybe a sit-com?

I think Castro was majoring in construction science at A&M. Would require some math and science ability, and even getting into A&M would require decent grades and SAT scores, so he is not dummy.

I have always thought David A acts/speaks younger than he is. He reminds me of my 12 year old nephew and his friends.

I think Castro does fine in the interviews. It is just in “on the spot” question situations that he has trouble coming up with a clear, well thought answer. Some people are good at that sort of thing, others not so much. He’ll get better at it the more he has to do it.

A lot of musicians are “slackers”. That is why they are not doing 9 to 5 jobs like us non-slackers. I don’t know that you can brand someone a slacker based on 3 weeks in time after weeks of intense pressure. I think being able to create a marketable record is more important in the decision on whether to sign someone or not.

I agree with MJ that some of the press are sore that Jason advanced further than Carly in the competition. I’m sure, like Simon, they attribute it to his looks but as someone who spent time voting for Jason I can tell you there’s a lot more to it than that. Carly is a great vocalist but I enjoyed Jason’s performances more than I did her performances. I love the tone of Jason’s voice and his mellow sound. He was just so easy and comfortable to listen to. He was always himself out there and just did his thing and let things happen the way they were going to happen. I like that kind of person so it was pretty easy for me to be attracted to his style. He’s unique and he definitely has a lot of talent. Idol was lucky to find him.

David A. is a Mormon kid, and while there’s some diversity within that community often the kids are quite sheltered growing up and kept strictly away from liquor, pre-marital sex, recreational drugs, etc. The whole hedonistic Hollywood scene must be really strange to him.

If his family is strict in their adherence to the church precepts, David will probably be sent out on an evangelical mission abroad when he gets a little older, like many of his peers. Not to be cynical, but it’s hard to imagine that happening (for long anyway) if he’s pulling in the big bucks headlining at Disney World or something…..

My opinion? The boy was a joy – maybe not the most focused performer, maybe not the strongest singer, but dayum, he was a joy to watch. And joy is something we cannot take for granted…. ever.

well, it is the music business… where amy winehouse still has a deal, to name but one example. commercial viability counts for a lot.

What I can say about him is that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a fine young man, with a good attitude who handled a public failure of a magnitude I will never know with a truckload of class.

Spense, I wish I was as confident as you are. Now I don’t think Jason’s going to make an album because of the whole “he’s so relieved he was voted off/he couldn’t handle the pressure/he gave up!” crap that every interviewer is throwing at him right now. His answers (at least the delivery of them) aren’t very convincing either. Who would sign someone who comes across as a slacker?

I don’t know why I’m so irked. Or unreasonably pissed. Or worried sick. Gah.

Maybe I’m irrational after only getting 6 hours of sleep in the last 72 hours. My head hurts.

He is much more of a folk rocker.

MJ- Love your recap. Honest to a fault and to the point. But the question I have is, were you à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“awash in endorphinsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ???

David behaves like a teenager who had a very sheltered childhood. Maybe daddy locks him up in a cage between singing sessions.

Maybe not locked up – but I’d bet good money that the kid’s life is sheltered enough to seem like a cage. He doesn’t even get to comment on his own musical arrangements – because his dad is his “musical advisor”. And, I think we can all see that David is a “reluctant singer”. I know lots of people have commented on Brooke falling apart or Jason looking uncomfortable – but for me, it is Archie who looks full on terrified anytime anyone speaks to him.

I’m not a fan, and I wouldn’t vote for him, nor will I buy his (most likely) David foster produced CD, but my heart goes out to him.

And, princessmela – with regard to Jason’s smarts or lack thereof – is he not an architecture major? I can’t speak for Texas A&M, but I know for many schools – this is a difficult major to do well in without a lot of hard work and some serious intellect.

My impression – he is a lot smarter than he was portrayed (but still goofy), he made some very astute judgements and gave me some belly laughs!
