   Oh my….the former lead singer of Axium (David Cook) is rumored to be among the Top 50. I actually already own a copy of David’s solo album “Analog Heart” (Tulsa’s Indie Album of the Year). I may end up watching this season’s show afterall. Alternative rock….woo hoo!

   Yum, yum! There is a lot of eye candy in this group. Could Colton Swan be my mythical male country singer from the Omaha auditions who will win Season 7? I am counting the days till January.

   Oklahoma is well represented in the Top 50 - even David Cook now lives in Tulsa. I’ve heard of Colton Swon. Not surprising is that he’s from Muskogee - only 10 minutes from Checotah on Hwy 69. And we all know the Idol from Checotah….

   Haha, I was thinking the same thing. Colton Swon may be what AI currently lacks: a male country singer.

   Anyway, I went through the myspace links and a lot of the white men sound/look similar- they play guitar, have this rockish pop sound going (probably hoping to capture the Jason Mraz/John Mayer/Jesse McCartney/I can think of any more…market), and can sing tunes competently. Most of them are young and pretty too. Probably style over vocal prowess this year (with the exception of the star search kid and a few others). My guess is that this will be easier to market post-idol, but not so exciting to watch in a competition that showcases covers of standards.

   Lots of white chicks. Hopefully they can sing too, or it will seem like AI took a step backwards from being a competition about not-so-pretty underdogs (see Aiken, Clay and Yamin, Elliott) with great voices to a pageant of plastic wanna-be’s (many of the 1st season contestants). And where’s that illusive Irish girl? Just a guess, but maybe TPTB didn’t want another season of divas ;) Perhaps this is the year for another male win.

   And that was my long (and perhaps premature) summary of the rumored Top 50.

   Already it looks more interesting than last season. LOL. Just kidding. I have to see and hear them on TV to have a definite opinion. They certainly are more diversed than season 6, which is a good thing..

    Ok, I hope Colton Swan makes it (and I haven’t even listened to his music, LOL). He looks good though!

    The good news is I’m already more interested than I ever was in Season 6. However, it does seem “very professional.” I wonder if they can get the Cinderella thing back to the show. I’m starting to doubt they can get the magic back.

    The “Cinderella thing” was always a bit of a myth, I think. I actually enjoy the contestants who have experience. Pluck someone out of true obscurity, and plop them on stage in front of millions of people–more than likely they’ll choke. And actually, I think there are examples of this in the first few seasons of the show.

    Heh. Perfect example. She was really good in her initial audition, but once she hit the big stage, she fell apart.

    Over at TWOP, they called her “the re-animated corpse”.

    Camille Valasco and John Stevens–two more examples.

    Supposedly, joesplace knows who the Irish Girl is, but she’s requested (and she’s agreed to her wish) that she be kept a secret until the show airs. Joes even said she’s just as good as they hyped her up to be (at a Kelly Clarkson level) in the past.

    No, he’s sweet tea and biscuits! I have been saying for awhile that there hasn’t been a male country winner of AI and my prediction is that one will be crowned in Season 7. I was predicting that his name would be Cody, so if Colton makes the Top 24, you can all congratulate me on my prognasticating ability.

    I am not bothered by the so-called professionalism of this group. I bet if Myspace and youtube had been around during Season 1, we would have seen pre-idol recordings of Justin and Kelly and naughty pictures of Nikki McKibben surfacing. I do still have a fondness for the Charles Grigsby grocery bag boy backstories and I am sure that there will be more of those in Season 7.

    JoesPlace has had absolutely no communication with The Irish Girl AT ALL. Finding her was a bit of a fluke as she isn’t anywhere a computer could reach. And Joesplace is keeping in private cause AI gets to keep some secrets. It’ll make for a great season…trust me.

    And there is going to be some AMAZING back stories. America is going to fall in love with this batch.

    Yep, yep. I’d take that bet. There probably would have been recordings of Tamyra too, and maybe some others.

    All of the previous Idol winners and runnerups and some others (even prior to season 5) had some sort of professional or performing experience and/or connections before they auditioned for AI. It’s not a new thing. A lot of them had recorded demos and tried to break into the business before.

    It’s all in the way the show bills it as to whether or not it works, IMO.
