I’m starting the Spoiler thread early today, since it looks like we already know the names of two of tonight’s song choices:
- David Cook - “Innocent” - Our Lady Peace (via their website) Acoustic version My Space
- David Archuleta - “Angels” - Robbie Williams ( from a reliable source on the scary boards, via Idol Forums) You Tube
- Jason Castro - “Over The Rainbow” - Israel Kamakawiwo version You Tube
- Brooke White - “You’ve Got A Friend” - James Taylor/Carole King
- Syesha Mercado - “I Believe” - Fantasia
- Michael Johns - “Dream On” - Aerosmith
- Kristy Lee Cook - “Anyway” - Martina McBride
- Carly Smithson - “The Show Must Go On” - Queen
Per Idol Forums…
I’ll edit in the rest. Post spoilers if you find them! Thanks peeps!

Ah, yeah. Guess I shouldn’t be worried about that order happening, then. Putting Archie in the pimp spot again and Syesha in the death slot again seems a little too conspirative.
Kristy has the best song of the night. Let’s see what she does with it.
I’m happy about Michael’s choice. I’m not so sure about Jason’s but will be interested to hear it. Syesha is just asking for it, Whitney last week and now Fantasia. I don’t know Kristy’s song but Martina has a much better range.
I wish we’d get spoilers on how they did at rehearsal.
I hope Syesha goes first, so I can mute her ass and then sit back and enjoy the show :)
Fantasia sings the hell out of that crappy coronation song. In lesser hands, it turns back into an ordinary song. Syesha is foolish indeed.
bean:
Martina’s “Anyway”
Absolutely gorgeous and it couldn’t be anymore inspirational.

Damn. As much as I hate to say it, KLC might stay another week. If I remember correctly, Martina sang that same song on Idol at some point within the last 2 seasons; many Idol viewers are quite familiar with it. Augh.
That song list is making it extremely hard to figure out who might be going to go home. Those wildly familiar song choices make it seem as if it’s anyone’s to lose right now.
I wish MJ had chose something else. The judges like his blusie side a lot more than his rocker side.
It might be time for a “surprise” boot this week…
Performance order this week will be interesting.
Oh, I love Iz’s version of Over the Rainbow. Absolutely love it. It was the closing song for Finding Forrester and several other movies and gave me chills it was so pretty. It is also pretty popular so it should be very recognizable.
Syesha’s friend reports that she will be going 2nd. Bye, bye Syesha!
Randy said on Larry King last night that on non-mentor nights, they pick the order out of a hat. Yeah, right.
ME too.
I am proud of him for taking such a bold choice. It might go either way.
It may be too risky and the judges might hate it, but I applaud him for not going safe.
You never know, he could do it very well. I LOVE that song.
And MJ definitely has a big old voice. Let’s cross our fingers bean99…
Even if the judges bash him I know I will love it… Wink… Go MJ!
Syesha’s friend reports that she will be going 2nd. Bye, bye Syesha!
Wow. That’s bad for her.
OTR is one of my guilty pleasures & Iz’s version is my favorite. This very well could be Jason’s showstopping moment! Jason has that soft melodic voice that I believe can really pull this off. I truly hope so.
Being a DC fan with Jason & MJ running a close second I think I might have to split my votes tonight between DC & Jason.
I think he could hit it out of the park again this week. Well, either that or he’ll totally bomb it. Like maracaibo said, it seems he’s only going to one of two ways.
I’m definitely hoping for the former, though. His husky voice is almost near damn perfect for that song.
I think Jason should play the ukele :)
I don’t think they are voting anyone off this week- they didn’t last year.
That was a “surprise” thing last year (a point which Ryan overpimped then; he hasn’t said anything like it this season so far). They’re actually having the usual full-hour elimination episode this week, but on Thursday instead of Wednesday (which is when the IGB episode airs). They’re not going to go through all that trouble if they aren’t going to eliminate anyone.
Wish Syesha was doing the old “I Believe”. It’s a great song and would let her belt….
If David A. sings Angels …I hope he doesn’t constantly roll that imaginary dice in his microphone - free hand….maybe a few spastic hand moves like Jess Simpson did when she sang it…….btw I love David A.
WTF. I double posted. Sorry. Deleted.
No, XO, there is a separate results show on Thursday night. Someone will be going home.
Yeah, Michael will either knock it out of the park or completely bomb. That’s a tough song to sing. I hope he has the upper range for it.
At least, if nothing else, we FINALLY get a few songs written after, you know, 1990.
I’m not doubting Michael’s ability to sing that song. I just remember what the judges said last night…that they don’t like him doing rock songs and that he should stick to his blusie side.
I think Michael will deliver a great version of Dream On…it sort of has a blues influence, so this song is perfect for him. Also looking forward to David C. I am undecided which one I like best - a good dilemma to have. David C jumped up 1,000 points in my book last week with Little Sparrow. Jason may not be my style, but he’s just so freakin’ adorable and sweet. I really hope he does well.
I’m terrified that Simon will hate the ukulele version and accuse Jason of sounding like a circus clown. I personally don’t like it at all. I think it’s stupid that way. It ruins it.
I hope I’m wrong.
I’m still going to vote for Jason for two hours, no matter what.
A few thoughts (trouble with posting, so forgive me if this is redundant:
1) Syesha made a big mistake going after the same vocal bonfire songs that Whitney-Fantasia-La Toya-LaKisha can do. She does not have that elastic a voice, and if she stayed more within her vocal comfort zone she’d have been a lot better off. And I agree totally that “I Believe” is cheese whiz on toast. LaKisha hit all the notes, and it helped bring her down even so.
2) My fave Dave is such an ingenious musician, with such a good feel for what he can do with a song, that I’m really looking forward to his take on “Innocent.” One thing that consistently impresses me is that he’s not just a master-blaster vocalist, though he can definitely wail — he’s also got a lot of beauty and color and shading in his vocal range and style and timbre. Even if he copies an arrangement, his voice is very distinctive. And he isn’t afraid to sound pretty, as well as rockin’ rough.
3) Respectful disagreement about voting for the best of the night. One thing AI has proved time and again is that it plants booby traps with those crazy “theme nights” that can make the best performers look bad. God help Cookie, Michael Johns, and the other good ones they have to sing Andrew Lloyd Webber or Mariah Carey tunes.
WOOHOOOOOOO!!! Jason ROCKED it!! Yaaaaaaaaay!!!
I am SO glad to see the mosh pit seems to have been reined in.
WOOT!!
HAH!! Kristy’s pitchy!!
Yay Kristy brought it! Woo Hoo!
Yay Jason! I am loving tonight!
OHMYHECK, I think little David’s going to get the pimp spot AGAIN.
I don’t need you all! I can run this site alone!
Oops! Wrong about David and the Pimp Spot.
I love that sign that little girl was holding up for him, “Lick Your Lips!”. Har.
*ahem!* ‘Scuse me, idolbeat. This here’s MY site.
I keed! I keed!
Buh bye, Sye!
I hope so. LOVE how Syesha dissed her fellow contestants in her sit down with Ryan. “She’s the only one here who got me.”
For once, Randy was right on in his critique. She just didn’t connect.
I secretly thought David C’s hand was a bit cheesy.
CARP!! I must have the resiliency of a cockroach. Seems I’m the only one to have survived on the MJSBIGBLOG planet.
I bet the Mariah night will be #1 Hits, since she just surpassed Elvis in total number of number one hits (I think she has 18 now). No way can it just be Mariah songs, she has an insane range.
