Season Six News

Sanjaya Malakar’s recent elimination puts him at the top of the Idol news food chain.  He’ll be making the rounds of the talk shows next week, including the usual suspects–Ellen and Regis and Kelly.  While he’s in New York, Sanjaya will also be delivering the Top 10 List on Late Night With David Letterman.  This site claims to know the list.

According to the Associated Press, Indians were glad to see Sanjaya go. Here are some sample headlines–From The Indian Express, “Sanjaya is voted off American Idol - he’s the only one weeping,” and from the Times of India, ”Finally, Sanjaya sings his way out of Idol

Meanwhile, Vote For the Worst has a new poster boy–Phil Stacey.  From the beautifully coiffed to the hairless…

Tenth place finisher Chris Sligh and his band Half Past Forever are currently on a mini “homecoming tour.”  Here’s the schedule.  I’ll be posting the appearances on my Idol appearances page soon.

What I’ve been listening to over and over again:  Like I predicted, the full-length version of Blake Lewis’s  country performance, “When the Stars go Blue.” (Go Team Plaid!)  Also listening to–Chris Sligh’s “Endless Love” and “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic.”  You can download the Idol performances for yourself at Americanidol.com.

Starryconstellation.com has downloadable podcasts available of all the eliminated Idol’s post-boot satellite interviews.  It’s the raw audio that’s the basis of all those articles you read across the net in the days following Wednesday’s Idol elimination episode.

Just for the tin-foil hatters among us: Ricky Hoggard, who has successfully and accurately spoiled 3 seasons of Canadian Idol and American Idol Season 6 claims to have an inside source at Idol who has been feeding him weekly lists of the Idol’s voting totals.  Not the actual total, but a numbered list of how the Idols ranked.  He claims that Sanjaya did not actually have the lowest number of votes this week.  Beam me up, Scotty…

Go Team Plaid indeed! I have all of Blake’s official recordings and they are all in constant rotation on my playlist. “When the Stars Go Blue” is absolutely gorgeous recorded. Only wish it was longer than like 2:30.

That top 10 list is hilarious! I’ll have to watch Letterman this week - I rarely watch any late night shows. And I know we have Ellen set to record every day. I can’t wait to see what Jaya is like on the post-AI media tour. He was great on Leno the other night. :)

    Adjusting my tin foil hat.

The only thing I can figure, if there is any manipulation of the vote totals vis-a-vis who goes home, would be if the votes were very, very close, then TPTB could perhaps send off someone who who actually did not have the lowest number of votes, but is someone they feel should be leaving and probably would anyway.

The signals my hat is receiving seem to indicate that this may only be a more recent phenomenon in the AI world, and it would have to be extremely close among the bottom bunch to get away with this. Otherwise they would be trumpeting their 2006 winner, Chris Daughtry, as being another example of the voters “getting it right” and choosing a multi-platinum selling superstah as their Idol yet again.

Something tells me the vote margins this year are quite slim between top and bottom finishers.

Heh, I actually purchased Stars Go Blue to support Blake, but hadn’t listened to it because I needed a break from every song sounding like Savage Garden is singing. I love me some Savage Garden, but every now and then I need a beat (which is why I couldn’t bring myself to purchase “I Need To Know” which was sorely missing the beat that makes it sexy.)

I know this sounds like I don’t like Blake–I do like Blake but wish he would spice things up every now and then–or find a way to sing more Jamiroquie/etc.

I do like Blake but wish he would spice things up every now and then–or find a way to sing more Jamiroquie/etc.

t2, with the theme weeks, he really hasn’t had the opportunity or occasion to do that. And, sure he could to a re-arrangement of a song, but after he got trashed for what he did with “You Keep Me Hanging On”, I imagine that he’s put a halt on the re-arranging for now.

I personally am beginning to like the past two songs he’s sung better than some of the ones at the beginning. But then, I’ve liked just about everything he’s sung, so…

Blake’s “When THe Stars GO BLue” is absolutely beautiful. HIs voice sounds so good recorded. VEry very nice.
Blake is ready for radio I am telling you, sometimes his voice reminds me of a combination of Bono with Adam Levine frim MAroon 5.

By the way the new song from MAroon 5 ” makes me Wonder” is HOT. I highly recommend it.
Blake is probably one of the contestants whom I have liked most of the songs he had perform on the show.

My favorites: Somewhere only we Know, Virtual Insanity, All Mixed Up, Time of the Season, Love Song, I Need to KNow and When The Stars Go Blue.
So basically 7 out of 9. Heh.
    GO Team Plaid!
