Simon Cowell on Ellen Degeneres: Kara Will be Back, All the Top 4 Have a Shot and Adam Lambert is Best – VIDEO

Simon Cowell appearing on the Ellen Degeneres Show, tells Ellen that Kara DioGuardi will be back next season. He says the 4-judge panel has been tough because they don’t have as much time to talk (as if that’s stopped them..)

Simon says the relationship with Kara was awkward at first, but he’s gotten used to her.

About leaving after his contract is up, Simon says Idol has been the best 8-9 years of his life, but all good things must come to an end.

Simon is fudging a bit on his Adam/Danny prediction. He says they all seemed to put in an effort last week, and now he believes any of the four remaining contestants could win.

Simon’s favorite to win? Adam Lambert for his originality and fearlessness.

Their judging really has no basis in fact, if it did they would judge this like a diving or skating competition. Simonpaulakararandy (spkr for short, pronounced à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“spikerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ) are part of AI for entertainment purposes (and the occasional comic relief) onlyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦they really have nothing of importance to say since this entire competition is a subjective exercise only. If we took them and Ryan out of the equation the show would be dull entertainment. AI is just like old time TV variety shows, and the formula still works: a little singing, some patter, some slapstick, a little drama, some comedic relief.

    Very true. lol

  • palmtrees:

I watched this earlier on the Ellen website and they cut out the part about all four contestants being good and having a shot and skipped to “Adam should win”.

As far as pimping goes, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like it whether ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s my favorite or not. The judges should be there to impartially judge without an agenda and let America decide.

Total word. I although I thought David C deserved to win last year, I would have enjoyed it MORE without the David v. David pimping. This year, its worse than ever. Partly, I admit that it may be my bias in that I just can’t get on the Adam love train (although he seems like a nice person). So seeing all the ZOMG! Best eveh, for a contestant I’m not pullling for, while seeing other contestants I like better (Allison and Kris) marginalized, is a real downer.

I agree with that in theory, but in practice it can be hard to pull off. They are supposed to tell you how they feel after each performance. If Simon went into last week thinking Allison needed to show more personality if she wanted to win, then he sees a performance that doesn’t do enough of that to his liking, what exactly is he supposed to say? Now I think he was dead wrong (and I think he realized it when he looked back, at least so he says) but still, in that moment, he said what he felt.

The whole “objective” thing and judges sounds good but makes no sense when you think about it. They are judging… they have an opinion. And they are going to judge each performance in context what they believe that person is capable of, what they have done in the contest so far. So, by the nature of the job, each judge will have a bias towards how they see each contestant. And they are being paid to have that lens.

Now the producers giving favorable treatment to some contestants, messing with their song choices, that is wrong IMO. But I can’t get mad at the judges for doing their job even when I disagree. YMMV.

  • AmandaRae2512:

Uh yes. Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re only one person out of 300 million in the U.S. alone. A lot of people get mad when the judges dislike their favorite. Its human nature, and it was blatant last year as well as this year. Why do you think people boo when the judges say something they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like? lol

Because they’re told to. I know. My sister’s been in the audience before. It’s all part of the show. Maybe some really were booing their dislike, but it is strongly encouraged there at the live tapings. And no I am not the only one. Lots of people admit when their fave is pimped. They may like it, but they can admit it. Some can’t, but I’ve seen lots of people admit it. Hell even some of the Glamberts on IDF last week were admitting to Adam getting the pimp spot too much.

  • lefty:

    Its only à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“pimpingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ when the kind words arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t about your favorite.

Uh no. I can even admit when my favorite is pimped like Archie was last year in the earlier rounds and Carrie was in Season 4.

Uh yes. Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re only one person out of 300 million in the U.S. alone.

Count me as 2 out of 300 million then. It irritates me regardless of who’s being singled out. When it’s not my favorite, it bugs me for obvious reasons. When it is, it just makes me cringe because it’s unnecessary and causes backlash. And either way it’s unfair to the “unpimped.”

  • Simon said in TV guide interview I believe that at first he thought Kara was too technical, and that she shouldn’t be like that too much because people want to hear judges’ personal opinion too. I think we just have to take their critiques for what it’s worth, personal opinion, but of course from those who are in this business for years and years it’s got to worth something, no?

The only one not being pimped is the staircase. Now I’m going to go cry some more.

BINGO! Backlash is a bitch when your favorites are overpimped.

BINGO! Backlash is a bitch when your favorites are overpimped.

Really??? where is the carrie underwood backlash then? She keeps doing better and better. LOL

Besides, the real test/contest will take place in the studios/concerts, news buzz/award shows/endorsements/etc after the show.

  • sweetie99v:

Hell even some of the Glamberts on IDF last week were admitting to Adam getting the pimp spot too much.

Sorry, I don’t take my cues from an internet forum………..

  • sweetie99v:

Seriously, we’re in a recession, people are losing jobs, we’re fighting in 2 wars and people are upset that a contestant’s name on a reality show not being mentioned on a talk show….

I”m not a big fan of Allison, but you don’t see me putting her down and calling her names on here? Whats the point? They are all talented in their own way and have the potential to be successful. Different strokes for different folks….

Although, one thing I do like is when people start to hate on my favorite (s). It shows how good they are, and when they are successful its hard not to keep a big smile on my face….. J-Hud is a good example. I couldn’t stop smiling when her grammy/oscar winning self stood back on the idol stage people told her she would never be on again…. I’m sure Chris Daughtry will be smiling tomorrow night too…..

So, if the so called unpimped ones are so upset about it. Then they should take their cue from the above mentioned and take their future opportunities seriously and become a success. Success if the best revenge.

I ONLY hear the word pimp online…. when I talk about the show at work, etc. no one else uses that word…. and we all have different favorites. lol

    Adam FTW!!! LOL

  • Chipmunk:

Pimping backlashes when the pimped one doesnt meet or merit the mark..usually when they do, their careers are fine, post idol regardless of where they place in the competition, and it hurts when it isnt your fav..>ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY KICK ASS!!!.See Carrie Underwood and Daughtry for inspiration.

And having said that, pimping has to be the most overused abused clihe this season by AI internet followers. I THINK SNOOP DOGG AND 50CENT need to sue our asses to get their franchise back! :thumbup_tb:

    Nice interview.

  • Of course he thinks Adam should win because the facts are the facts, no matter how you want to dispute it Adam is the stand out star in the competition.

  • Because theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re told to. I know. My sisterà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been in the audience before. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all part of the show. Maybe some really were booing their dislike, but it is strongly encouraged there at the live tapings.

Not true. I have been on the set many times and they do not tell you when to clap or boo at all. They just say that if you are going to clap, clap loud with your hands over your head and if you are going to boo, do it loudly. No one is there telling the audience to do anything. It’s LIVE and the audience is free will.

I’m afraid I don’t understand the meaning of that reply, but the point of the other posters is that there are plenty of examples (and I can add myself to the pile) that contradict your statement that “Its only ‘pimping’ when the kind words arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t about your favorite.”

  • Pimping? I’d call it… HIS OPINION

  • AmandaRae2512:

I love how Ellen can so lovingly and politely put Simon on the spot. Her comments about critiquing someone’s outfit or appearance when he should be addressing their talent and performance (“you can change the clothes”) was quietly brilliant.

And completely OT, but I absolutely LOVE her new haircut.

  • lavender1960:

I don’t think pimping a contestant matters after the show is done, talent is talent, though pimping can affect the voting negatively and the outcome which can make things more difficult if the pimped one ends up runner up rather than winner though often times being a runner up is a big plus – talent is talent and the music buying public doesn’t care.

Or in the case where the pimped one doesn’t get deserved criticism and doesn’t grow as an artist in the process because either they don’t have to make changes to save themselves or they are afraid to change to keep the judges happy. And frankly that makes for boring TV.

Now if one is pimped and still continues to grow as an artist and/or take risks, that’s a whole different enchilada.

  • lorenzo:

Simon is so cool of the show, but man he’s a different beast on it… this interview and the other one… the night show one.. he’s sooooo cool!

  • TKat:

There are a number of comments in this thread that describe Adam as “polarizing”. I had sort of accepted the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Adam is polarizingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ comment as fact and then two things happened that changed my mind.

    1. Over the weekend I was in Greenville, MS (the heart of the Mississippi delta, the home of the Blues, and BB Kings home town) and I overhead a group of older black women who work for my company talking about AI. I joined in the conversation in time to hear one woman say à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦well that one can really sing.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Now she is an older black women, a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“church ladyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , and I just assumed that she was talking about Danny. All the women soundly corrected me and told me that they all liked Adam best à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ most specifically loving ToMT. They went on to explain that they planned to vote for Adam. I must admit I was surprised.

    2. Earlier today I read a comment on another MJ thread about someoneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s 85 year old mom loving Adam. And thinking that her hearing aid was broken when Danny sang à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Dream Onà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

I am starting to think that Adam is not actually that polarizing after all.
