Simon Cowell Talks X Factor on the Today Show & Snipes at Steven Tyler on FOX & Friends

Watch Simon Cowell’s hilariously uncomfortable interview with Matt Lauer from this morning’s Today Show.

The awkward vibe was caused partly by the satellite delay between New York and London, but it was also due to Matt grilling Simon as if he were a head of state or something. Yeah, I know Matt interviews all celebrities with the utmost seriousness which has led to some hilarity in the past. (Kanye West, Tom Cruise anyone?)

Matt wondered why Simon is allowing 12 year olds to audition for X Factor when just a few years ago, the Idol judge was dissing kid contestants as boring and stagey. Good stuff! Check it out after the jump.

UPDATE: Simon also stopped by Fox & Friends, the first question was about Christina Aguilera’s National Anthem flub. Simon says she sounded like, “100 thousand people in the stadium just sat on a cat…don’t play any more!”

The anchor asked for a reaction to Steven Tyler’s remark that Simon shouldn’t be dissing country music, and the brittle Brit bristled, “We’ll send Steve a tape of an audition of a girl called Carrie Underwood and if you play back what I said at the time…she will be the most successful artist on American Idol, and she was Steven, a country singer.”

“I think he was probably told to say that, ” sniped Simon. OH SNAPsssss!
