Slash Tweets: “I’m going to make this as Rock & Roll an American Idol as possible”
Lucky for us American Idol fans, Slash, the Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver guitarist, loves his social networking!
Ever since Slash let it slip last Sunday via twitter that “American Idol has asked me to do the mentor bit for Rock Week.” he’s been messaging little tidbits to the fans.
Ryan Seacrest announced on Wednesday’s result’s show that Slash would mentor the four remaining Idols, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Kris Allen and Danny Gokey for “rock and roll week”.
Earlier that day, Slash twittered, “I’m going to attempt to make “Rock Week” on American Idol exactly that.”
On Thursday, Slash wrote on his Myspace that he was reluctant to take the mentoring job at first, but was convinced when the producers “offered me the freedom to do it however I wanted.”
“More importantly,” he said, “there are a few singers this year who are really impressive. Its the 1st time any AI line-up has really caught my attention.”
Slash promised some surprises, “The approach I’m taking is different than usual on the show, and I’m going to make this as Rock & Roll an American Idol as possible, wish me luck!”
After Slash got a look at the contestant’s song selections on Friday he twittered, “The contestants from AI picked some really cool songs for next week, thank god!”
More tweets on Saturday: “I had rehearsal for AI late last night, I mentor the kids this afternoon.” and then later, after his session, “Those AI kids can sing their asses off, especially Adam.”
According to the well-sourced, Top Idol, the song list is made up of classic rock hits from the 70’s and 80′. And because the judges can’t STFU, in a new twist, the kids will be singing solos and duets, rather than the typical two solos apiece.
Blabbermouth.net reports Alice Cooper guitarist Keri Kelli will join Slash for his mentoring role, whatever that means No other details are available about his appearance.
“Next week should prove to be very interesting,” tweets Slash.
Yep. Next week could be awesome. Or a trainwreck. Or an awesome trainwreck. Heh. Either way, can’t wait.

Kris doing Layla? That would make my day, save the season, everything. Nice.
Probably not. However, I would love to see just how close the vote count was.
I think if Adam and Kris are matched up, they will do great. They both like each other and seem to have mutual respect for each others talents. Plus the two of them have had the most success with rearranging their songs. So I think in this case two heads are better than one. And finally, with Kris playing instruments, they can rehearse around the clock.
If Allison and Danny duet, I worry that Danny might take charge and Allison won’t have much input.
I could completely be off base on this, but that is my perception.
I also think there will be no pimp spot. I think they will open the show with a duet and end the show with a duet.
VFTW is making a last ditch attempt in getting rid of Gokey. Their caricature is cursed. They really don’t care now.
There was much speculation Kris would tank with Disco and much speculation Danny wouldn’t be able to handle Rat Pack and they both ended up having probably their best performances with those themes and Matt was expected to shine last week and he sucked, so I think it’s hard to just look at the theme and predict how any of them could do.
After last week I think ALL the fanbases are going to be out in full force because everyone got the wake up call that no one is safe. I do think it will be casual votes that will tell the tale.
This is galling to see. The assumption seems to be that Adam’s fans either got complacent or that they were vote-splitting. I’ve seen a lot of this. Very little thought seems to be given to the idea that Allison and Danny outperformed Adam the other night. Or that Adam’s fanbase isn’t quite as big as it was purported to be. My theory is that he was getting a lot of votes because he was consistently outperforming the other Idols. That changed, at least temporarily, the other night.
Also, Ryan specifically said that Adam was in the bottom 2. Most likely he was in the bottom 2. Occam’s Razor.

Oohhhhhh. That’s an interesting twist, hadn’t thought of that. I don’t think that’s what it’ll be, but I think it would be way better that way!
This is the week Lambert can do a song by one of his Idol’s (Bowie.) If this is classic rock from the 70’s and 80’s, Kris shouldn’t have a problem.

Allison’s solo clue is too vague, since there’s a annual canadian festival for elvis impersonators(from old to young), so could be any Elvis song. Just hope Paula doesn’t just start jabbering about Allison shopping in the men’s department. That would be so wrong on so many levels.
The rest has been speculated upon. I’d look forward to “Under Pressure” by Kradam. So we’ll see, shall we? :wink_wp:

Don’t think they’ve ever been cleared (anyone, correct me if I’m wrong and someone sang GnR on the show in the past) and Slash does not have the rights.
And Axl would NEVER give clearance for this (both because it’s AI and because Slash is involved).
Made me laugh out loud. My favorite MJ song, too.
I really don’t get the whole vote splitting thing — in all of eight seasons I have never splitted votes. Kind of useless in my mind. Plus I really need to be invested to pick up the phone for two hours. I guess if you only vote two or three times, that would work.
Under Pressure by Adam and Kris would be awesome. Adam must do some Queen or Aerosmith but I know that is too obvious. But he could kill!! Just hope he does what he feels he needs to do to win. Whether it be over the top or something toned down. He is damned either way so he needs to make his mark and hope for the best. He is gonna be such a superstar when this is all over. If he doesn’t win, oh well he can follow his own path as I think he needs to do anyways. But just remember ADAM fans, no more vote splitting and remember to vote as hard as you can as the competition is tight!!
I might consider liking Gokey if he would do Mountain’s “Mississippi Queen”.
I think Kris would do well with “Into the Mystic” or Neil Young’s “Don’t Let it Bring You Down”. I think he could have a moment rivaling “Mad World” with the latter.
Adam will blow me away with whatever he does, for certain.
Ohhh I’m so excited about this week! Slash mentoring brings back all my Axl Rose crush years ago. Love their music. It is going to be a good week for me and seeing Slash’s tweet about Adam made my day
I hope for a Kradam duet. Under Pressure would be awesome or maybe Sweet Child O’Mine? They have good friendship so I don’t think the duet will hurt either or them. Plus if Kris was really in a disadvantage this week or was out, at least he would have the best week ever and has fun with his Idol friend. In all interviews he seems to really look up to Adam as a big brother.
Adam/Allison are not gonna happen people! They gotta do a co-ed, not all girls’ duet.
Gokey might just duet with his harp. Who knows?

Yeah, but if he wins over Adam, they claim it was their doing and now TPTB are stuck with Taylor Hicks’ less talented clone. If he looses, they claim the ‘curse’ worked and they’re happy because they hate him. It’s a win-win situation for them.
I’m glad Slash is mentoring. Hopefully he lives up to his tweets and the contestants really deliver this week. I love rock, so this should be fun!
