So You Think You Can Dance 6 – Top 12 – Performance

Best show of the season so far–so many great routines. My favorites were Kathryn and Legacy’s Jazz routine, Ellenore and Ryan’s Broadway routine and Noell and Russell’s Contemporary.

Hard to pick who’s going home. Maybe Karen and Victor? Tough one, this week.

Videos and Recap after the JUMP…

Next week, the dance pairs will be split up.     How sads

Ellenore and Ryan – Lindy Hop by Carla Heiney – “I’ve Got To Be a Rg Cutter”  by Boilermaker Jazz Band – Ryan is a ballroom dancer, is doing a beautiful job as expected, but Ellenore is right there with them.   This is a light, airy and effortless Lindy Hop. Ryan hurt his back. You wouldn’t know it. Very very nice. Adam says, “What a fantastic start to the show. You both look cute, you guys made me feel that party.”   Mary says, “Tremendous….stunning. That end was just amazing..” Nigel says, “I thought it was terrible…that we hadn’t had it since Season 3.” Psych. “It was terrific to watch.” ‘“ 1-888-836-7601VIDEO

Legacy and Kathryn – Jazz by Sonya Tayeh –  ”So Deep” by Hot Chip – I love Sonya so much what a terrific routine.   A really awesome meld of jazz and b-boy. Hard, angular and tough.   Adam loved it.   Mary says, “Sonya was very clever…the dancing was really outstanding. Kathryn, this really showcased you as well…congratulations.” Nigel says, “I think that’s one of my favorite routines of the season.” Mary and Nigel think they will sail into the Top 10. ‘“ 1-888-836-7602VIDEO

Karen and Victor – Tango by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin – “Montserrat” by Orquesta del Plata – A brand new couple this week. The routine is about secret lovers. Very intense, fierce tango. Lots of chemistry–better than their previous pairings. Adam says, “This is a partnership that is working out congrats…Victor, you have so much poise and stature…Karen keeping energy alive in the quiet spots..hot chemistry.” Mary says, “This was really good…Victor you had the air just down. Karen you looked tremendous out there…you are still on the train.” Nigel says, “I’m really happy that you’ve come together…intensity…beautiful to watch. Karen…you have it…just magic.” ‘“ 1-888-836-7603VIDEO

Mollee and Nathan – Hip Hop by Jamal Sims – Ring-A-Ling by Black Eyed Peas – Nathan split his pants! I’m not buying Mollee as a hip hop dancer. Nathan is better, but they are both too cute by half. Adam said, “I thought you guys were really selling it…Nathan I can tell you love doing it. I could see the stress on you Mollee, some of the choreo got soft…good job.” Mary said, “It picked up steam as it went along, some things could have been hit a little hard, it was fun, mostly synchronized great job.” Nigel said, “I think you are both really good dancers. It felt a little Twee the way you danced it…I need to see you both mature.” Nigel thinks the each need a more mature partner. ‘“ 1-888-836-7604VIDEO

Noell and Russell – Samba by Tony and Meredith LaPatin – “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira – Pretty good for a pair of dancers who are not used to shaking it. Adam says, “I enjoyed that…but it was a little too nice…rather than dancing from your southern regions.” Mary says, “It felt a little shallow and skating across the floor…Russell…real joy…Noell you really shook it…but I was a little disappointed.” Nigel says, “I need to get more from you Noell, it feels a little homogenized…Russell…your samba roll…you didn’t go far enough forward. A lot of good routines proceeded you.” ‘“ 1-888-836-7605VIDEO

Ashleigh and Jakob – Lyrical Jazz – Sonya Tayeh – “Time Flies” by Lykke Li – Another beautiful routine from Sonya. Adam says, “That was so beautiful, I don’t know what to say.” Adam is sad they are breaking up. Mary says, “Can’t fake chemistry in every number…Jakob, technical genius. Ashleigh no more suprise factor, now we expect it.” Nigel says this routine is now his new favorite. Uhm. Actually I liked the first one better. ‘“ 1-888-836-7606VIDEO

Just saw my first American Idol commercial!

Ellenore and Ryan – Broadway by Spencer Liff – “Razzle Dazzle” Chicago (original Broadway Cast) – Another great routine. I love Ellenore. Adam says, “You guys nailed it…full of character and flavor…Ellenore you were a rockstar…fantastic.” Mary says, “Ryan you just dug in and got that character…Ellenore you are unique…something that we haven’t seen on this show..your the it girl.” Nigel says, “I love the choreo and I love you two.” – VIDEO

Legacy and Kathryn – Viennese Waltz by Tony Meredith and Melanie Lapatin – “Your Guardian Angel” by the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus – This was just OK, for me. First routine was much better. This isn’t Legacy’s thing. Legacy is crying. “There is hope,” he says. Adam says, “That was an extraordinary attempt…Kathryn, this is a great night for you.” Mary says, “Legacy…wasn’t the best…Kathryn just gorgeous.” Nigel says, “We’ll turn a blind eye to some things that could have been better.” – VIDEO

Karen and Victor – Hip Hop by Laurieann Gibson – “Moving Moutains” by Usher – This routine didn’t grab me the way Gibson’s routines usually do. This was dull. Adam says, “Enormous commitment, intensity…something didn’t match the music…” Mary says, “There isn’t anything there that’s going to be really memorable…nothing to latch on to there.” Nigel says, “The tango was so strong…I didn’t feel the chemistry…I didn’t think you were particularly together.” – VIDEO

Nathan and Mollee – The Can Can by Tyce Diorio – “Cancan Suite” by Offenbach/Ponchielli – Some of their dance moves are incredible…and others are ridiculous. The can can? I mean seriously? Adam says, “It was a little better showing for Nathan…really really good.” Mary says, “She was just killing it! Total energy the whole time. It was so enjoyable.” Nigel says, “I thought you did it with all the energy and enthusiasm demanded…super way to finish the show.” – VIDEO

Noell and Russell – Contemporary by Tyce Diorio – “A Case of You” by Diana Krall – The theme is painting and paints and the routine is very clever. Fab performance from Noell and Russell. Beautiful. Adam says, “You guys were just gorgeous…you aren’t going anywhere after that.” Mary says, “It was really special…it was flowing…the entrance was beautiful…out of this world.” Nigel says, “Noell you just comitted to everything…you had such confidence…Russell your technique just gets better and better.” – VIDEO

Ashleigh and Jakob – Cha cha by Jean-Marc Gnreux and France – “Cha cha Heels” (Ralphi Rosario Radio Edit) by Rosbel feat. Jeanie Tracey – Very hot. Wow. Jakob is holding his own against the accomplished Ashleigh. Adam says, “This is ashleigh’s world, and we’re all just visiting. Jakob, you made yourself seem like a ballroom dancer. You guys killed it. Couple of the night.” Mary says, “You guys have just blown it out of the ballpark tonight.” Nigel says, “Jakob, you were the fish out of water, but it didn’t show. You are waltzing through to the Top 10.” – VIDEO

For me the only safe couples should be Ryan/Ellenore and Jakob/Ashleigh.

    Ryan/Ellenore: + +
    Legacy/Kathryn: + -
    Victor/Karen: + ~
    Nathan/Mollee: + ~
    Russell/Noelle: – +
    Jakob/Ashleigh: + +

If I could I would send home two girls – Noelle and Mollee, and keep all the guys. Unfortunately I think the writing is on the wall for Victor even though I think Legacy is out of his league – likable as he may be.

How do you get rid of Phillip Cheebeeb — Russian Folk Dancing

How do you get rid of Nathan — the Can Can

Seriously, that was the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen on tv.

  • Dr. Tracey:

I would love to think the Can Can will be the end of Mollee and Nathan but Nigel has pretty much said they are already in the top 10 so I don’t think they are going anywhere unfortunately. Their routine’s were the worst of the night, Nathan dances only slightly better than Mollee who is really sloppy.
Best of the night for me were Legacy and Kathryn and Ellenore and Ryan.
I expect Karen and Victor will go home.

I was just telling my mom tonight how much I love this season. Because I love this season! Unlike last season where the original couples didn’t really gel and you really had to mix and match to get to the good stuff, you have such unexpectedly compelling couples in Ashleigh/Jakob, Ryan/Ellenore, and Kathryn/Legacy. I haven’t been this sad to see couples separate since Marksie, Katua, and Gevney. And also, week after week there’s amazing choreography to love. OMG Sonya, did she step up to the plate or what? The Jakob/Ashleigh lyrical jazz was just stunning, gorgeous, and yet still uniquely Sonya. Def my fave. The other jazz piece was saucy and quirky and really fun to watch. And the Broadway! FINALLY. That is what I’m talking about. Thank you Spencer. That was fantastic. Love Ellenore.

You know, I think Tyce’s contemporary with Russell and Noelle was kinda pedestrian compared to Sonya’s piece. Flail, flail, rip, rub paint, flail. I hated, hated the ripping shirt bit. I dunno. Can’t blame the dancers as it was the choreo that bugged. Although, said it before, Russell has SO had formal dance training.

Nathan outdanced the other three dancers who did hip hop tonight, I thought. I really hope he survives and can dance with another partner. Those TURNS in the can can. Jeebus, boy.

Pleasantly surprised by Jakob in the cha cha, also same for Ryan in the Broadway. Just a great night of dancing, mostly.

Also, I’ve decided my sooper sekrit wish for this season is Ellenore +Jakob+ Wade. Make it happen, show.

  • sunchick:

Ugg, I can’t edit and I forgot to mention the dreaded Lindy Hop. That didn’t suck! Which is saying a lot, because I haaaaaaaate the Lindy Hop. Hate. Go Ellenore and Ryan.

If I could I would send home two girls ‘“ Noelle and Mollee, and keep all the guys.

Oh, so much word. I like all the guys, some (Jakob) more than others, but totally would not miss Mollee and Noelle.

  • Grammie Kari:

Anyone who has seen the “Josephine Baker” story knows and understands the importance of the Can-Can. It is a demanding dance, physically. Nathan did a wonderful job! Mollee held back because of her ankle injury. I would love to have seen a taller girl do this dance, but she did well.

It is easy for me to say that Noelle will go home. However, as mentioned deciding on which male will go home is not an easy choice. I am leaning towards Vicotr because of a few comments made by the judges.

Favorite couples at this point: Legacy and Kathrin AND Ryan and Ellenore.

  • RJDothan:

i liked Noelle and Russell the best.

  • glitter:

    I want as pairs

    Ashleigh / Russell
    Ellenore / Jakob
    Kathryn/ Ryan
    Karen/Mollee / Legacy
    Noelle / Nathan

I really want Mollee to disappear and I know she won’t. Victor just not feeling him at all.

  • smallwitch:

OMG, r u me? This is exactly what I have been dreaming!!!

  • movin2thabeet:

Yeah, both of Sonya’s dances were amazing. This was a good night of dancing overall. My favorite dancers right now are:

    1. Jakob!!!! < incredible
    2. Kathryn
    3. Ellenore

    4. Russell
    5. Ashleigh
    6. Nathan
    7. Ryan
    8. Noelle
    9. Legacy

There's a couple of dancers who I believe could or should go home:
Karen – over-rated because of sex appeal
Mollee – over-rated because of cute and spunky appeal
Victor – not as good as the other guys

It's hard to say whats going to happen since it seemed that the judges wanted to see both Karen and Mollee in the top 10. Maybe they're going to sacrifice Noelle.

  • bjames:

this was such a good night! the first time i’ve been really excited about the group as a whole. LOVING kathryn, legacy, ellenore, jacob, and ashleigh, and russell. the rest are just arright for me, dawg.

  • Sunshinegirl:

I guess I am one of the few who likes Noelle and really notices how well she dances. A friend of mine who hasn’t really been following much of this season texted me during the show tonight to say how impressive she thought Noelle was. I think her friendship with Mollee makes people hate her by association which is sad actually cause she deserves to stay infinitely more than Karen.

  • sunchick:

OMG, r u me? This is exactly what I have been dreaming!!!

    I dunno? I am small, and I def can be witchy…. ;)

Wouldn’t it suck if they paired Jakob and Ellenore and then gave them the Quickstep or something?

  • AZIdolFan:

this was such a good night! the first time i’ve been really excited about the group as a whole

ITA!!! i think all of them did great in at least one of their routines. i absolutely love ryan and ellenore and russel and nathan and karen. jakob and ashleigh are amazing. kathryn has grown on me.

i think the bottom three couples will be karen/victor, nathan/mollee, & i’m gonna go out on a limb and say legacy/kathryn. it might be russell/noelle. not really sure. i think the judges will eliminate victor and mollee (i really really really really hope!!!).

  • TFLS:

Jakob really moves me every time he dances. What control! Absolutely riveting to watch. So was Legacy. His crab walk entrance just killed. And it didn’t matter that he lost style points on that waltz. He made the hairs on my arms go up when he danced it. Such passion! Add in Ellenore and Russell – and you have my top four.

  • mgk:

I think this is the best night I’ve ever seen of SYTYCD. So many good routines. I’m really loving Kathryn. She’s a beautiful dancer. How weird is it to actually like a Broadway routine?

  • tierbee:

Wow, I have really gotten into this season now – what a great show tonight! It’ll be interesting to see the new pairings. I hate that some of these pairs are going to be broken up, there was some great chemistry. And yeah, I am not sure I ever liked a Broadway routine that much before – Ryan & Ellenore were great. I like them a lot.

  • weelassie:

Awesome show! Lots of good dancing. Sonya is excellent! My favs are starting to shape up. Ashleigh is growing on me. But Noelle…..wow. Her flexibility and leg extension is just beautiful. Hate to see Ashleigh and Jakob split up. They are awesome together. I think Mollee and Karen are my least favorite girls. As for guys…..they are all pretty darn terrific. If we have to lose one, I would pick Victor. It will be interesting to see the new pairings. And, thanks MJ for posting the dances. Appreciate it!

  • Dlynne:

It’s turning into a really great season. Sonya killed it tonight…twice! I’m going to miss several of the pairings. Next week should be interesting.

  • RJDothan:

I am with you sunshine girl. I think NOELLE is WAY Underrated this season. But i think it was because people form their favorites in the first week and she sat out. But she will be good at whatever she does if she goes home.

  • woohookitty:

Not a huge deal but it’s Noelle, MJ. :)

  • glittergirl:

I know nobody is reading this thread anymore, but this is the first time I’m posting, so I actually feel less shy without a big audience. ;) First, THANK YOU SO MUCH MJ for this blog! You have no idea how amazing it has been to have a place to go to see the show, to watch numbers again and again, to read yours and others’ comments. Yeah! Anyway, I’ve gone back and watched both of Sonya’s jazz numbers from last week a bunch of times. For a little while there, Sonya was a hit or miss for me, but now she’s back, and I’m LOVING it! Also, a couple of weeks ago, Nigel berated everyone for having weak solos, and I have to say, I just looked at one of Ade’s solos from last season and it was so frickin’ amazing that, indeed, Season 6’s soloists cannot begin to hold a candle to that kind of mad talent. It’s almost embarassing, in fact. Just my opinion.
