So You Think You Can Dance? Los Angeles Auditions Redux

I caught the first episode last night, and do have some thoughts about it, which I’ll post later.

But if you’re like me, you are going to be watching the Idols on Larry King Live tonight, rather than the second episode of the So You Think You Can Dance auditions…

ETA:  Actually, this is a repeat of Thursday’s Los Angeles auditions episode.  I’ll post clips here after I get the Larry King vids up.

LOL. I can only listen to Mary laugh so much.

I will say, while we have this one going, possibly in an echo chamber, that I really love Cat Deely as a host. She is top notch and I love her ease with the contestants and with herself. I think, next to The Seacrest, she is one of the best out there.

Indeed Ladybug, Cat totally rocks. She’s such a sweetheart.

But, I do have to say that I’m getting a little worried with all of the kick ass info MJ is posting this week that she might get fired from her day job!

Honestly MJ, you have gone above & beyond the call of duty this week with all of the videos, exit interviews, etc. I’m way past impressed.

Oh yay, you are going to continue with the Dance stuff. I guess you have been just a tad busy with all the Idol stuff??! I have been watching that “Please dont stop the music” with the Idols and dancers over and over trying to catch who is on as far as dancers- I didnt know the dancers until after IGB. For those of you that have watched since the beginning, can they really get better than this last group of dancers??? I just started watching this year and HOW can they be better than that? I guess I will have to wait and see but darn it I thought my Wednesday’s were free again. I will have to make sure I watch the recaps on here for thurs cuz that is not a night I will be able to watch for 2 hours darn it!!! Thanks MJ

i’m so glad you decided to watch this year, mj. i think you will like it. i’ve watched since the first season. and sumi the dancers are just as good and sometimes better than the season before (kinda like idol). i’m hoping it’s fun. and the tours are great too. i’ve seen it twice and have only been to idol once. this year will be my second idol tour!!!

Yeah to the dance thread, Mj, hope you love the show.
Having two left feet, I am IN AWE of some of these dancers, and between the cool dances and the hawt boys, I love this show. Could def do without Nigel, who is as usual his smug and constipated self on the show. Cat is a sweetheart and I enjoy some of the drama with the contestants. was a danny fan last season, last night’s auditions looked promising (but trash the american idol gimmick of the bad audition, really old)

LOL Nigel being appearing constipated. However, he does have, along with all the SYTYCD judges, constructive criticism for the dancers. Unlike idol, where we have Randy blowing out the same mush week in and week out, it is refreshing to hear the judges taking their time to give the dancers smart critiques. I love Mia by the way, politics and all; she has a very sensitive presence.

I agree that it will be hard to top last year’s dancers. However, I never could understand why Nigel was so enamored with Lauren. Perhaps close up she had a larger presence than I saw over the tv. Also, there were other weak links, like Kameron and Jessi.

I never watched the first season. (I always seem to start watching during the second seasons of reality shows: AI, SYTYCD, Survivor.)

Season 2 - I loved Benji, Travis and Heidi! I also, had a special place in my heart for Dmitry, for some reason. :innocent1_tb: Allison was also a lovely dancer to watch. And Ivan was cute and grew a LOT over the course of the season.

Season 3 - I didn’t love as much as season 2. Danny was great, just never connected with me. Sabra was very good, too. My favorite was Hok, though I knew he wasn’t going to win - not versatile enough. But the Hummingbird and Flower routine (with Jaimie) was the highlight of the season for me (like the Park Bench/Sunflower routine with Travis and Heidi in Season 2). I also liked Dominic, and Sarah, and Neil really grew into a spectacular dancer over the course of the season. Pasha, though I liked him, was NO Dmitry.

I’m looking forward to all this season has to offer. And I agree with rher about the judges giving constructive criticism. Plus, it’s actually criticism of the performance the dancers just finished, unlike AI. [/snark] You can actually see the thing(s) you missed in the performance that that the judges didn’t miss. They (yes, even Nigel) know their stuff. :thumbup_tb:

Kerfuffle, you brought up the Hummingbird dance and I have to loudly agree that the Hummingbird Dance was the highlight of the year. It was awesome. At the beginning of the season, my tv viewing partner (my daughter) right away picked Hok as her favorite (we both loved his solo dance to the Christine Aguilera song - ain’t no other man?? — anyway, good stuff).
