More Spoilers after the JUMP…

Tidbits:

  • Everything basically got good reviews except for Mark and Comfort’s Foxtrot
  • The judges liked Mark’s Hip hop (with Comfort). They didn’t expect to
  • Will wore a wig in his solo
  • Twitch and Katee’s contemporary used a door as a prop
  • Courtney’s Solo - Song: “Where I Stood” by Missy Higgins
  • Mark’s Solo - Song: by M.I.A.
  • Chelsie’s Solo: Song: “Damaged” by Danity Kane
  • In Will and Courtney’s Hip Hop, Will is a ghost
  • The judges told Chelsie and Joshua that their tango was much better than the other one (the one she did with Mark) because she and Joshua had so much chemistry.

These bits are from Idol Forums:

  • Mark and Comfort’s hip hop was about what kids do in detention when the teacher is away. There were some desks on the stage.
  • Courtney and Will’s slow hip hop was about seeing a lover who has passed on, and Will played a ghost. Courtney had some weird thing in her hair, and the judges commented that she looked kind of like a 1920s flapper.
  • Twitch and Katee’s Contemp was about a tumultuous relationship where Katee is kind of abusive to Twitch.
  • Twitch and Katee’s Broadway was about “Sweet Georgia Brown” trying to seduce some guy that has no interest in her.
  • Joshua and Chelsie’s disco had a lot of crazy lifts. Joshua is insanely strong.
  • Dmitry said that Joshua and Chelsie’s tango was supposed to be set when Tango was on the outskirts of society and was only performed in underground clubs. Nigel said it didn’t feel like they got that feeling into it.
  • I don’t remember what the story behind the Markfort foxtrot. Mary said that they had the worst closed hold in the history of the show. They were all pretty mean about it, but that’s the only specific critique I remember.
  • Mary said that Courtney was smoking in the samba, and Will was pretty good but got stiff sometimes.

How is it that Comfort manages to draw Hip Hop each week???

  2. 2 SpenserJ Jul 22nd, 2008 at 4:06 pm

Comfort does have a lucky streak doesn’t she?

Toni Basil can be a real nutburger, or she can be really coherent. We’ll see which one shows up tonight.

I hope I enjoy Katee & Twich together, since I like them so much as individuals.

They sure do like putting Joshua and his partner in the pimp spot! That actually sounds like a fun pair though, so I’m looking forward to it.

  3. 3 kerfuffle Jul 22nd, 2008 at 4:37 pm

I guess Mark is going, dammit! I refuse to vote for him to leave though, since he’s the last dancer I really care about. (Plus I’m so far down in the pool, it doesn’t really matter.) I like Joshua and Twitch and Courtney and Chelsie. Will and Katee are great. But, I love “Quirky Mark”. :wub_tb:

  4. 4 Virgii5 Jul 22nd, 2008 at 4:38 pm

Mark & Comfort? Are they trying to get them the boot???

But at the same time… yeah, how IS it that comfort gets hip hop again this week???

  5. 5 AInoob Jul 22nd, 2008 at 4:42 pm

Its rigged!! Comfort gets hip-hop again? What the heck? I hope it doesn’t save her (again) its time for her to get off my television.

I cringed when I saw that Courtney got Will, I like her so I worried that I’d have to brace myself to hear the judges slam her like they did with Jessica.

  6. 6 sumidol Jul 22nd, 2008 at 4:43 pm

Who was that said last week that this would happen to Mark? Wofowfow - sorry - I know thats not even close but WHAT the heck?

I am very happy for Courtney and Joshua though.

  7. 7 geekygirl Jul 22nd, 2008 at 5:01 pm

I thought the same thing, lol. A hat full of one name of Comfort or Mark! (not sure who chose whom) You called that one! Maybe they gave her the hip hop to show america once again why they chose her, now here’s the Foxtrot, thank you and goodnight!

Sounds like it is going to be tough to choose who goes!

  8. 8 Allison Jul 22nd, 2008 at 5:07 pm

Poor Mark. I don’t intend to watch this charade.

  9. 9 SpenserJ Jul 22nd, 2008 at 5:10 pm

Hmm, I wonder if I should hold it against Chelsie that she did her solo to a freaking Danity Kane song? I guess not, she’s young, and she still has time to develop taste.

Why are all of the choreographers so freaking literal this year?

I suspect that Joshua & Chelsie’s disco will be the only good one we see this year.

I have a sinking feeling that I’ll lose my beloved Twitch this week, and I will be oh so sad.

  10. 10 lalalalax3 Jul 22nd, 2008 at 5:23 pm

Oh. What a surprise. Mark gets Comfort. How shocking…

And how many freaking times has Katee gotten Broadway?

    I’m so over this season.

    I totally believe its fixed.

Mark and Comfort will go home this week.

I predict that next week, Courtney and Twitch will be paired up and the judges will turn on them to get the finale they want.

  11. 11 lala Jul 22nd, 2008 at 5:32 pm

I try really hard not to go all Jerry from Conspiracy Theory, but I knew Mark would get Comfort this week. They have been trying to downplay him for a couple weeks now. Bye bye Mark. Who will I root for then, since Gev left last week? Craptastic.

And call me a doof, but I loved Mark in the tango with Chelsie–another example of them trying to get rid of him if they used it as an example of a crappy tango during Joshua Chelsie’s tango critique.

  12. 12 sumidol Jul 22nd, 2008 at 5:51 pm

I am really trying hard not to believe in Conspiracy also, I just dont get it with Mark. They were loving him up and down until the others left and now they do this, it really just seems so blatant though, doesnt it? Then watch next week it will be Twitch like someone said - this is the top four I hope for Joshua and Courtney and Twitch and Chelsie please.

  13. 13 MrsTrep Jul 22nd, 2008 at 6:04 pm

And amazingly Katee seems to do a lot of Broadway… doesn’t this make two weeks in a row?? I remember her doing lots of contemporary too??? Am I in left field too??????

  14. 14 SpenserJ Jul 22nd, 2008 at 6:12 pm

Am I in left field too??????

Nope, you’re not. She’s pretty lucky as well.

  15. 15 Hisaki Jul 22nd, 2008 at 6:48 pm

Ooh, Dmitry’s back to choreograph! /tard

Sounds like Nappytab aren’t doing another lyrical piece from the song spoiler. At least, I HOPE they aren’t. I do like the lyrical stuff, but I need some of the real hip-hop too, which so far NappyTab has not yet given us (if I remember correctly).

    Looks like Mark’s going…*sigh*

  16. 16 Sarah Jul 22nd, 2008 at 6:58 pm

Well, but Broadway is not Katee’s specialty, as hip hop is for Comfort. She might be good at it, but she’s not specifically a Broadway dancer. Re: her style - she’s had one contemporary and last week’s Pas de Deux. And this week’s contemporary, which sounds kind of… weird. Will has also had lyrical, contemporary, and the Pas de Deux… all of which could arguably be in his style. Twitch has had two hip hops and a Krump - all in his style. The transition to two dances a week so early this season almost guarantees that everyone will dance the same styles several times throughout the season.

Courtney and Comfort got hip hop two weeks in a row. They weren’t going to be able to avoid SOMEONE getting hip hop two weeks in a row, due to the pairings. And, yeah, Katee got Broadway two weeks in a row. It’s the 3rd time in those styles for each of them. I think Joshua is the only dancer for whom both styles this week are ones that he hasn’t danced yet this season.

I’m excited to see the Argentine Tango with Josh and Chelsie, even if only for the fact that Dmitry choreographed it. He choreographed one of my fave numbers from last season too (the really HOT Samba with Danny and Lacey), so I’m thinking I’ll like his choreography.

Last thing - if Comfort and Mark go this week, as I’m guessing TPTB want, I’ll be excited that we’ll probably see Josh and Katee together again next week. :)

  17. 17 bjames Jul 22nd, 2008 at 7:22 pm

everyone should probably vote for mark….if it even makes a difference.

  18. 18 SpenserJ Jul 22nd, 2008 at 7:26 pm

(the really HOT Samba with Danny and Lacey),

    Yummy! One of my favorites.

The transition to two dances a week so early this season almost guarantees that everyone will dance the same styles several times throughout the season.

That probably explains it. On the surface, it does seem odd. But, I’m still open to the possibility that it’s random. Mostly because I don’t think Nigel cares anymore about Comfort - so I don’t think they’re necessarily propping her up.

Last thing - if Comfort and Mark go this week, as I’m guessing TPTB want

I’m not 100% certain that they want Mark to go. And, I think if there criticisms are as harsh as some of the spoilers say, it will be enough to energize the fanbase so he stays. I know it’s an unpopular opinion - but I think the critiques of Mark last week were pretty fair. And, I think they were harder on Kherington than they were on him. Plus (kk, please forgive me) I thought Mark’s solo last week lacked focus and was missing his usual spark.

I think Nigel wants Twitch to go. Twitch is the other hip hopper standing in Joshua’s way - and the judges love Joshua. I think he’ll get the faint praise treatment. But of course, this is probably my paranoid fangirl bias showing - so I wouldn’t listen to me at all lol.

  19. 19 Dream Baby Dream Jul 22nd, 2008 at 8:20 pm

    Dmitry??? Dmitry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry…I love him…I loved his choreography last season. I loved seeing a tiny little snippet of him last week in the audience when they talked about how he used to rip his shirt off.

I will be very happy to see Dmitry on my tv screen tomorrow night…

  20. 20 mocha Jul 23rd, 2008 at 12:08 am

I’m trying hard not to think that this is producer manipulation, but it really does seem like they want Mark gone. Comfort is not going to be Top 4 no matter what, so it seems the producers aren’t too worried, she will get herself eliminated on her own. Although I know there are some die-hard Mark fans out there who might put in the extra voting effort and make a shocking elimination this week of one of the other guys.

  21. 21 lala Jul 23rd, 2008 at 1:32 am

Thankfully my David Cook fantardness forced me to finally download dialidol–it has been coming in very handy for Mark voting.

I’m not obsessed with him enough to work my fingers to nubs dialing away, but definitely enough to start up a lil ole program & click his name. :)

  22. 22 primeminister Jul 23rd, 2008 at 1:36 am

MARKKKKK. Comfort, seriously? and another fox-trot?

    *broken heart*

  23. 23 izzitme Jul 23rd, 2008 at 1:54 am

I can’t wait to see Josh doing the Argentine Tango… He is soooooooooo sexy when he dances… He is probably going to be amazing in the disco routine just based on his strength… At least I hope so… but disco is my least favorite of the styles they perform… I think Will is marvelous but I can’t remember one ballroom dance he has done that really stood out… Like Twitch and Kherington… or Chelsie and Mark… It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if this week there was an upset and Will went home… Particularly because they have been setting him up to be in the final four even before the season started… They destroyed poor Jessica with there unending comparison of her to the fantastic Will who can do no wrong… Will is a great dancer but I think they judges hurt him more than helped him by heaping on all that unending praise… Here’s hoping for an upset! Go Josh!

  24. 24 lala Jul 23rd, 2008 at 1:56 am

Yeah, another foxtrot and another NappyTab hip-hop–and I’m guessing it’s not going to be the hit the businessman one was.

  25. 25 mocha Jul 23rd, 2008 at 8:46 am

ah yes, the businessman routine…. one of the season’s best, and now it seems to be forgotten by the judges. Irritating that they are now trying to imply Mark is all acting and no technique; come on, what about Twitch’s “technique’??? I, too, would be thrilled at a surprise Will elimination, although I think Twitch should really be the one to go, if we are talking about the best 3 male dancers left on the show.

  26. 26 rher Jul 23rd, 2008 at 9:07 am

Back after a week of lamenting Gev’s departure. Really, the all purpose guy - how many hip hop routine’s has he done this season (1?). Kristen, we need new data charts - stat!

I don’t know whether I like reading the spoilers or not. Well, the Dmitri spoiler definitely was a happy read. Spense, I’m so in agreement regarding the choreographers being so literal. I loved Wade Robson’s series of animal dances last season; that was cool. One article likened Mia’s dances to an extended therapy session. I hope it doesn’t start or end with somebody sitting on the side of the stage!

  27. 27 lala Jul 23rd, 2008 at 12:24 pm

ah yes, the businessman routine…. one of the season’s best, and now it seems to be forgotten by the judges.

Another one that they seem to have forgotten was the awesome (IMO) Mia one Mark & Chelsie did the 1st week–the Tim Burton wedding one.

I, too, would be thrilled at a surprise Will elimination, although I think Twitch should really be the one to go, if we are talking about the best 3 male dancers left on the show.

I totally agree–I would LOVE to see a surprise Will elimination, but agree that Twitch, as much as I love him when he does his thing, is the weakest as far as technique goes.

  28. 28 pdog716 Jul 23rd, 2008 at 5:42 pm

For me, one of the reasons this show is so good is that when they are down to the final 10 , certainly 8 it is sooo tough to lose someone. In AI at this point there are always disposable singers. With the clear exception of Comfort, all these dancers are fan-friggin-tastic. Even the two we lost last week were wonderful. I’m really looking forward to tonights show, but it irks me that I have to DVR Project Runway. There’s like 8 good hours of TV per week, and these two great shows oppose each other. Horseshit!! I wish I could summon Angry Bax, and have her resolve this.

  29. 29 Sarah Jul 23rd, 2008 at 7:16 pm

Here are some stats (I keep a running list at work - cause I’m a nerd like that - and I finally brought it home with me. :)).

(Note: You can find all this at the SYTYCD Season 4 wiki page)

    Dances:

Josh - 2 Hip Hop (his style), Broadway, Samba, Contemporary, WC Swing, Viennese Waltz, Bollywood, Rumba, Argentine Tango, Disco

Katee - 3 Broadway, 2 Contemporary (her style), Pas de Deux (similar to her style), Hip Hop, Samba, WC Swing, Viennese Waltz, Bollywood

Twitch - 2 Hip Hop (his style), 2 Broadway, 2 Contemporary, Krump (similar to his style), Viennese Waltz, Paso Doble, Smooth Tango, Smooth Waltz

Chelsie - 2 Argentine Tango (her style), 2 Contemporary, Salsa (her style), Jive (her style), Hip Hop, Jazz, Foxtrot, Broadway, Disco

Courtney - 3 Hip Hop, 2 Rumba, Contemporary (her style), Disco, Broadway, Cha Cha, Jazz, Samba

Will - 2 Hip Hop, Contemporary (his style), Pas de Deux (similar to his style), Lyrical Jazz (similar to his style), Tango, Disco, Jive, Quickstep, Broadway, Samba

Mark - 2 Jazz, 2 Foxtrot, 2 Hip Hop, Contemporary (his style), Argentine Tango, Salsa, Broadway, Two-Step

Comfort - 3 Hip Hop (her style), 2 Smooth Waltz, Krump (similar to her style), Jive, Jazz, Broadway, Contemporary, Foxtrot

Gev - 2 Contemporary, Disco, Rumba, Hip Hop (his style), Broadway, Cha Cha, Jazz, Jive

Kherington - Broadway, Viennese Waltz, Hip Hop, Paso Doble, Contemporary, Krump, Smooth Tango, Two Step, Jazz

    Not counting tonight’s routines yet:

    NapTab have choreographed routines for:
    Rayven/Jamie, Katee/Joshua, Kherington/Twitch, Chelsie/Mark, Comfort/Thayne, and 1 group routine.

Mia Michaels has choreographed routines for:
    Chelsie/Mark, Katee/Joshua, Kherington/Twitch, and 2 group routines.
(That could give an idea of TCO’s right there. Mia is by far their best choreographer this year, and all of her partner routines so far have been fantastic, IMO. /grassy knoll)

    Tyce DiOrio has choreographed:
    Broadway routines for Kherington/Twitch, Katee/Joshua, Chelsie/Mark, Katee/Will
    Jazz routines for Comfort/Chris, Kherington/Mark
    Contemporary routine for Jessica/Will
    1 group Broadway

(They need to give Tyce a break. 8 routines total prior to tonight… that’s kind of ridiculous for one choreographer in just 6 weeks.).

    Mandy Moore has choreographed:
    Contemporary routines for Courtney/Gev, Comfort/Thayne
    Jazz routines for Courtney/Gev, Chelsie/Mark, Chelsea/Thayne, Kourtni/Matt
    Lyrical Jazz routine for Jessica/Will

(They need to give her a break too. 7 routines in 6 weeks. Crazy.)

    (I really am a nerd, huh?? :))
