A reliable source in the So You Think You Can Dance forum at TWOP has spoiled this week’s new pairings plus some of the choreographers and dance routines. You will notice the original spoilers from last week have been corrected:
Kayla & Evan – Waltz
Janette & Ade – Hip Hop by Napoleon & Tabitha
Jeanine & Jason – Contemporary by Travis Wall
Melissa & Brandon – Broadway by Tyce DiOrio
Randi & Kupono – Paso Doble
Also, there are supposed to be two group numbers – an African dance for the guys and a Bollywood routine for the girls. But, it’s not yet clear whether the dances will be done on the results show or part of the performance show.
The choreographer for the Broadway this week is Tyce. He’s always awful.
I wish Evan had gotten fox trot instead of waltz for his ballroom smooth dance. Bummer. He could’ve done beautifully with a Fred and Ginger type fox trot to “Cheek to Cheek” or something.
I would’ve mixed up the partners a bit more, and gone with Jeanine/Evan, Janette/Jason, Melissa/Pono, Randi/Brandon and Kayla/Ade. It would’ve put the tall people with the tall people as well as blended better, I think. Then Jeanine and Evan could’ve had the fox trot, Janette/Jason could’ve gone Broadway, Melissa/Pono hip hop, Randi/Brandon could have the contemp, and Kayla/Ade the paso doble.
If only they let me do it!

One of my friends just loves Jason plus Jeanins is her favorite girl and Travis is her all time favorite SYTYCD dancer. So she’s going to be positively GIDDY at that routine. I hope they kill it. I wonder if the second half of the season, for however long Jason lasts, is going to follow a “redemption” arc of sorts. I think he’s got the most untapped potential of all of them, so I hope so.
I’m curious about this hip hop for Janette and Ade. NapTab’s “specialty” is lyrical, but Ade has hip hop experience, so he could handle a harder hitting one. Hopefully they draw from the same creative well that they did for their group numbers this year bc those were great.

I love Evan. But I am not feeling good about this week. Kayla is at least 3 feet taller
and, waltz = kiss of death for nearly all who perform it. I see nothing unfair in the assignment of style – several other couples have already had this style. Just sayin’ – it doesn’t sound promising. Also, I’m so not a Kayla fan. (Apologies to those who are.)
On the other hand….
if they nail it, Evan could — COULD — be a hero. You never know! (Actually, I do know: if they nail it, Kayla will get the praise.)
As a couple, Randi and Kupono have the other short straw. Paso is killer. Neither have the “kliller” instinct. This could also be a disaster.
Jeanine and Jason get to dance in their style. I think Jeanine has had some of the worst draws of style this season, and in Philip, a relatively weak partner (in that he was completely untrained). She’s earned a moment to shine, I think.
Jeanette and Ade could explode! Could be all kinds of awesome. Ditto Melissa and Brandon – though the choreography will be the critical point for them.
Is there only one performance per pair this week? Then the group numbers? I loved the double performances last week (yea, more dancing – less filler!) But I’m nervous if this week is really 2 hrs – how are they going to fill all that extra time?
Pretty sure this was with Will, the same week they did the Pas de deux? Katee was fabulous in everything she did though.
I think that the short end of the stick definitely came for Evan/Kayla and Pono/Randi. I would say that it’s pretty fair, since Janette/Ade and Melissa/Brandon are stronger, and I would put Jeannine with the top half as well. But, I still don’t see the Jason love- and I disagree with the poster who said that the judges underrate him- they saved him 3 or 4 times! Maybe he will prove me wrong this time.

I love Jeanine and I like Jason so I’m really looking forward to their routine. Contemporary, too! I wonder what Travis chooses for the music…

Link above are spoilers from twop. No surprises on the judges comments. It appears Kupono and Randi got panned, they loved Melissa for her ballet moves and Brandon for his athleticism in “Age of Aquarius” number by Tyce, adored Kayla (who was barefoot) in the waltz and thought Evan looked clunky (who apparently wore serious latin heels). Jason and Jeanine got a standing O from everyone for their contemporary routine choreographed by Travis Wall. Standout solos: Evan, Jeanine, Ade. Not so good solos: Jason, Randi, Kupono.
