I was convinced before this season started they wanted a female ballroom dancer to win, but it is possible that they were angling for the female ballerina as well. But after 3 years they must have KNOWN Asuka had no personality, and Janette/Melissa were barely shown at all beyond being used as a token example of their respective styles of dance.

That’s why Kayla’s pre-show edits threw me off. Another female contemporary dancer? (I know Katee didn’t win last year, but she might as well have.) And if, as it now seems, she wasn’t TCO, what the hell was the point of all that? sunchick I like your idea that they wanted to make sure she’d make it far enough to dance with some of the male powerhouses, as she is technically gifted.

And I don’t even know what to say about this week’s spoilers. I mean, sure giving everyone their own styles will make for great television, but the audience will see through whatever credibility the producers had about the show’s fairness.

Karla and Vitolio have overstayed their welcomes of course.

These hardly seem random to me. If they are true then it should be a good show. However… it really makes it difficult for the audience to choose the weakest dance after the dreaded quickstep and unnamed genre.

Nico – the winner of SYTYCD Canada is far from being a ballerina sunchick. The guy is HOT! whew… but the runner-up Allie was a ballerina. Yes a ballerina, Talia, won SYTYCD Australia this year (a broadway guy won in the first year).

Enjoy some Nico http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2c0xYR It was choreo’d by Blake

Mia BETTER be nice to Brandon. He’s my favourite and he just has to make Tour.

Melissa comes off ice queen. Unlike Allie, speaking of her.
I think TCO is Evan. Don’t care much for him myself.

Ahhh, I got it flip flopped. I thought Allie won and Nico was runner up. But yeah, from what I’ve seen on YouTube…superhot. Didn’t they dance the Stacey Tookey piece to Cookie’s Permanent? *off to search for video*

I think the judges have jumped on her bandwagon because she’s come out week after week and done a fantastic job. So, if she’s now the TCO, I’d say it’s because she’s earned it.

You know I love ya, Spense, but I have to disagree with you on this one. While I do think Melissa has done a great job, there’s really no reason she shouldn’t have. She hasn’t been asked to stretch out of her comfort zone yet. Now, if she goes out there and does the most earth-shattering, spectacular hip-hop routine EVAH or something, I then might think she is fabulous. There’s a big part of me that thinks she’d crash and burn on a hip-hop (or a jive, or a samba, or probably a lot of various other things), which is why she has conveniently not “picked” any of those genres “out of the hat.” I mean seriously, the pot of duh IS a ballet for goodness sake!

ETA: Looking at the list again, it appears that MOST of the dances are one in one of the partners’ styles. Also, didn’t Jeanine and Phillip already do hip-hop? Do we know how credible the source is?

Just another thing from rooting around Youtube, both Kayla and Caitlin seem to be accomplished dancers en pointe, and I’m sure both Karla, Paris and Jeanine have at least some training – yet, of course, they’re never going to dance en pointe on the show, even if they wanted to.

Now I love me some Melissa but we haven’t seen that’s she’s ultimately that much more technically capable than the others yet. Psyched for that pas-de-deux
