I think the judges have jumped on her bandwagon because she’s come out week after week and done a fantastic job. So, if she’s now the TCO, I’d say it’s because she’s earned it.

You know I love ya, Spense, but I have to disagree with you on this one. While I do think Melissa has done a great job, there’s really no reason she shouldn’t have. She hasn’t been asked to stretch out of her comfort zone yet. Now, if she goes out there and does the most earth-shattering, spectacular hip-hop routine EVAH or something, I then might think she is fabulous. There’s a big part of me that thinks she’d crash and burn on a hip-hop (or a jive, or a samba, or probably a lot of various other things), which is why she has conveniently not “picked” any of those genres “out of the hat.” I mean seriously, the pot of duh IS a ballet for goodness sake!

ETA: Looking at the list again, it appears that MOST of the dances are one in one of the partners’ styles. Also, didn’t Jeanine and Phillip already do hip-hop? Do we know how credible the source is?

That’s why Kayla’s pre-show edits threw me off. Another female contemporary dancer? (I know Katee didn’t win last year, but she might as well have.) And if, as it now seems, she wasn’t TCO, what the hell was the point of all that? sunchick I like your idea that they wanted to make sure she’d make it far enough to dance with some of the male powerhouses, as she is technically gifted.

And I don’t even know what to say about this week’s spoilers. I mean, sure giving everyone their own styles will make for great television, but the audience will see through whatever credibility the producers had about the show’s fairness.

The particular jazz and contemp pieces she was given were choreographed with Melissa and Ade’s technical strengths in mind. All three drew on the whole “sexy” thing as well that Melissa was known for since her audition. She hasn’t been forced to stretch much physically (the rumba would be the easiest of the Latin dances for a person with heavy classical training to pull off) or emmotionally, as all three of her pieces were of the boy meets girl variety.

Flove Melissa and Ade. None of her dances have been in her style so can’t see where people think she’s being handed anything. She’s a ballerina so where is giving her Jazz, Rumba and Contemporary a favor?

Good for Evan and Randi. Too bad for Jason and Caitlin, seems they are being thrown under. Don’t care for Kayla, don’t see the greatness.

The Melissa as TCO theory does have some merit, especially considering a ballerina has just won SYTYCD Canada and I think Austrailia recently and the series do tend to siphon ideas from each other. Honestly, though, I think Ade is TCO, or at least fighting it out with Brandon for top guy. He’s been front and center in every group piece, has the best personality edit, was given a wealth of dances in his wheelhouse, and a technically proficient partner. Mia’s already familiar with him and it’s been speculated that her annoyance at Brandon is an attempt to to weaken Ade’s most direct competition because she favors Ade. (A typical Mia tactic, lolz. I still adore the crazy bitch, even if she did poor Marky wrong last season.) Which is actually fine by me because I really actually adore Ade, second to my sentimental fave Kupono.

I have to say it’s hard to come down on Kayla for being the beneficiary of shenanigans when there have been shenanigans out the wazoo this season. This week, if those spoilers are correct, well, we should at least get some decent stand out pieces.

I think this got buried in the last results show thread, so for those who haven’t seen it here’s a video of Ade and Kayla dancing a piece they choreographed. I think the producers will be chomping at the bit to put these two together eventually. Might save it for the top four, we’ll see.

I like Melissa, but have a hard time saying she’s earned it when she hasn’t even been challenged yet. The self proclaimed naughty ballerina has had two technique heavy contemp/jazz pieces which should be a snap for someone with her training and a naughty rhumba. I’m waiting to see if she can keep up with Ade in a hard hitting hip hop or krump.

Since I don’t think Evan started out as top tier fave, I am guessing he and Randi must really be pulling in the votes because they changed their tune on him a bit since the jive. Also, if those spoilers are true, not only are Evan and Rande getting Broadway, which is directly in Evan’s wheelhouse, but Randi’s said her favorite choreographer is guess who? Joey Dowling.

PHillip getting Nappy Tabs hip hop again…well, yeah. Not much else to say.

Sucks to be Karla and Vitolio unless they tapped Jason Gilkison to choreo the Quickstep.

Oh God Mia Michaels, that egotistical classless bitch will rag on Brandon again I betcha whether he does well or not, for some reason he brings out my motherly side so i’d like to punch her in the face when she starts that crap.

Ditto. To me, Brandon is one of the best dancers up there this season. Mia seemed to have more of a problem with his perceived personality than his dancing though, so if thats the case, there’s nothing he can do to make her a “believer”.

I’m curious with whatever Brandon and Janette do, if Mia will finally be on Brandon’s side, or will she rip him a new one?

Could go either way. Either this is the point where she verbally abuses him in her effort to prove to America that she was right and continues to downgrade him each time she’s on to ensure that he’ll make the bottom 3. Or, she might see that the tide has turned too far against her, and then she’ll start with that “you made me a believer” crap.

I suspect she was originally fodder. I was shocked by how good she was, and I was not expecting it from the way they’d treated her up to the top 20 episodes.

I like Ade better too. I think he makes Melissa look good…… But, the show has never had a ballerina win before so maybe thats why they put her above Ade.

Nope.
Over the last couple of weeks it seems obvious to me that Melissa is now TCO. She was featured as a favorite in TV Guide and she gets more praise than any of the other girls from the judges, especially Nigel, plus as you mentioned the routines she has landed haven’t been particularly challenging for her. I should change my overall pick in the pool to her.

I would say Brandon and Janette are my favorites.

I can’t believe how fast we are flying through this season, down to 7 couples already! So far everyone seems pretty suited to their routine but that means expectations from the judges will be even higher………….should be a good show.

I thought Phillip already got Hip Hop during the first week? Maybe I’m wrong.

I wanna see what Mia tells Brandon. That should be interesting. And I think he and Janette can do great with latin.

I don’t really think Kayla is as much of a chosen one as I just find her consistent tongue baths annoying. I don’t think she’s going to win, no, but I think she’ll definitely finish near the top. I just don’t think she’s as GREAT as I keep hearing. I do think that Melissa and Ade have had routines that are perfectly in their wheelhouse, but I don’t find Melissa as much of a chosen one yet either. I do think she’s great though, but I think she’s great with Ade. I just like that pairing. I don’t know I lose interest in some of the pairings when/if people lose their partners sometimes.

Anyways, I’m looking forward to Jeanette/Brandon doing Latin. That should be hot!! And we finally get to see Evan do Broadway. I have no idea what the pas de deux is, but I like Ade and Melissa.

OF COURSE Kayla and Kupono get Contemporary. How convenient. I’m ready for the Kayla tongue bath. Bring it on.

I also love Napoleon and Tabitha’s choreography so I’m looking forward to that, even if I have to see Phillip. I love Jeanine though.
